Much easier to use regulatory capture to funnel $$ in your direction & tell people they're saving the planet by burning it. But as this video shows, it's practically and economically a massive scam creating environmental destruction and energy poverty.
@soldierofvanity nice but this quote says nothing. Basic laws of ecology state that the energy loss from each trophic level to the next is approximately 90%, i.e., you waste 90% of the energy (nutrients in the plants) by passing them through animals. It's very simple, really.
Or to give it its full context "So we are talking of the old oil economy trying to maintain itself, now with another raw material, the green planet. The only reason corn and soya has been planted for biofuel in this country is that subsidies make it profitable. I think the big crisis of our times is our minds have been manipulated to give power to illusions. We've shifted to measuring growth, not in terms of how life is enriched, but in terms of how life is destroyed."
And those are the illusions that most billionair megalomaniacs need them to suth their own traumas and that's also what consumes the most energy. The most people in need are the ones that are poor in their hearts and they will destroy the whole world just so we could understand their misery. It is the psychological problem at global scales. India’s national energy plan doesn’t anticipate construction of new coal power plants for at least several years. Even state-controlled Coal India, one of the world’s largest coal-producing companies, in November said it planned a pilot solar project as it navigated a future with less coal. Across Asia, a region expected to account for two-thirds of the world’s new power demand during the next two decades, price declines will make wind and solar combined 17% cheaper than coal by 2030 on a levelized basis, says Wood Mackenzie. Even the ancient forests that I, and Muir, love(d) so much were up until very recently (and some still see them this way amazingly) were considered by many to be biological deserts (see a slam on both the forests and the deserts) and cellulose cemeteries and were considered wasteful. It was considered morally right and even morally imperative to cut these forests down and replace them with spindly overstocked monoculture tree farms/plantations where the trees would never be allowed to reach anywhere near their maximum ages and therefore would never be able to provide the ecologically stability and resilience that ancients forests do. @BoulderPM Nope, wrong; my personal ethics tell me how to feel. Being horrified by what human activity has done to this planet, and to our fellow species, comes straight from within me, not from some outward social agenda. Have a nice evening.
@@davidturoff8017 If it's me you're talking to, all I can say is that's a big difference between the way we think; I do worry about myself, but I also recognize that I am part of a much bigger picture, and I worry about all of us, including our fellow creatures, of whom we are supposed to be the stewards, not the ones who drive them to extinction. Trust me, if they all go, we will not survive. If the water, air and land are made too toxic for living things, then all this progress won't amount to shit. We'll be gone, all of us. And as these weeks of isolation have shown, eventually, Earth will heal and recover from the grievous damage we've caused. And she'll reclaim what we took, and poisoned. We have to go back to living with respect for the living things we share this planet with... or Earth will finally get so sick of us, that we'll lose our place on it for good. This movie debunked a lot of "green" nonsense but its Malthusian, nihilist message is fraudulent. Mackinac Island in Michigan created more value by NOT having cars, solar, or windmills, or in short, by NOT advancing its technology. Most cities around the USA could similarly create more GDP value by REMOVING technological burdens on resources.
I certainly agree with the quote/mantra "Less needs to be the new more." We must all consume less if we have any chance at all of saving this planet for future generations.
I agree. Read what I wrote about 2 hours after you. Isolation made me angry at first. But I have come to believe that changing our destructive behavior is going to be the fastest and best solution for addressing climate change, resource depletion, and environmental degradation.

Regardless of the amount of consumption at the present moment, previous generations will always have consumed more of the earths resources, new generations just add to the problem. @@corrielouis3 Weatherpatterns are definitly changing, but yes it is also seen/used as a way to make money and as an excuse for not looking at other causes for problems, which is why it will not help us keep our only accesable human habitat habitable.
Earlier this year the National Weather report issued stating the average temperature in the U.S., has risen by two degrees. Here in Central New York, it has risen by three degrees. It is so dramatic that the climate zones have had to be shifted. Whereas we've traditionally always been zone 5, we are now zone 5b. Usually those cities along the coasts of the Great Lakes are in that zone due to the warmth of the water. What this means for us is that our seasons are now two weeks longer, and come two weeks sooner. As a result, for the past fifteen years, we've gone from being the snowiest area of CNY, to seeing little to no snow at all. Most of our winter is now in the upper thirties, forties and even fifties. In those rare occaisions when it snows, it is seldom more than two to three inches. It never collects due to the temperature going right back up within the next day or so and it all dissappears. Most of the winter it now rains. Spring and autumn are almost none existent. The end of winter (or whatever we call it) transitions from this weired period of two to three weeks directly into Summer. Now we see late June and even July temperatures in May. Autumn, well its the same. Most of the period is well above normal temps and then we go into what is now winter. The only areas that still see any snow are the traditional snow belts and along the coasts of the lakes and up north. And even these areas are rather irratic now. Many consider this a good thing as our traditional winters were nasty. What they don't realize is that this isn't a change for the good, but a warning. And we are doing nothing of seriousness at all about it.

It was/is a marketing scam just like earth hour- you remember earth hour don't you? That was where an Australian marketer wanted us all to sit in the dark for an hour. At first the leftwits did sit in the dark for an hour every year and then someone worked out that it made no difference as the base load generators powering the grid would have to burn more coal to rev the turbines back up to where they were an hour earlier. Of course the idiots at the abc never told anyone this as that would undermine their religion.
I look around at the hordes driving for leisure, shopping for fun, drinking and eating to excess, to the point of endangering their own health - doing-up their houses, and buying mobiles, computers new cars every few years, many without even recycling most of what they discard, unless theior local waste authority forces them to... from that I must conclude that... yes... the overwhelming majority of humanity behave like parasites: consume for the sake of it... and so we neee Earth Day!
The only genuine "tree hugger" was the orangutan, who probably died of a broken heart because it's beloved trees we decimated. Dr. Seuss The Lorax brought to life.........
In Denmark, in 2021, over 42% of the total energy consumed was green, in 2023 over 63% of the electricity used was provided by solar and wind. Coal a little over 11%. As I'm writing this (production goes up and down), solar and wind is covering over 72% of the total electricity used in the country. And we're using a lot, among others because Apple and META have placed some heavy data centers here. Currently over 11% of cars in the country are electric. On a good day solar and wind can produce more electricity than we use, like 120%, so we can export the surplus. And it's growing rapidly, the production is expected to be 5 times as high in 2030. As for storage of the surplus new technologies like conversion to hydrogen are emerging.
It is certainly sad about those orangutans and what is also sad is the paradox here. I think the documentary accurately identified the issue at the heart of it all, humans fear and inability to face the reality of mortality. So how do the authors finish the film? They conclude it by tapping into that same fear and thus enable the disgust of death to continue. Perhaps that paradox is necessary. After watching this documentary by Moore, who I don't really like because he is also quite hypocritical at times (though thanks for making it freely available) is that the solution is fairly straight forward but capitalism in particular will not like it. What is that solution? Reduce consumption, stop wasting energy, plant forrests and reduce the human population through a one child policy. At least we can experience parenthood this way which might be better than a debatable alternative. I wonder for example if that alternative will be the corona virus vaccine. Is it's goal not vaccinate against a manufactured epidemic, but really to be the method of sterilizing the human population.
I do believe one of the ways forward is to limit the amount of children people can have. We are way over populated why does anybody want more than two children

But how often are coal or other fossil fuel plants being replaced vs. solar/wind or other renewables?
@@scsi_joe yes ,it is happening, but the trend is very recent...this documentary really focused on years ago. The example below is India...but Asia represents 2/3rds of power development in the world.
Cheaper than coal
In 2018, India’s “levelized” cost of solar-power generation-an analysis removing the impact of direct subsidies and figuring in the costs of construction and financing for a new plant-fell to 14% below that of coal, the first time anywhere in the world that generating solar was cheaper than coal on that basis, according to international energy consulting firm Wood Mackenzie.
In India, solar generation will be almost 50% cheaper, it projects.

Mark Hemsworth it isn't about which form of energy is cheaper, the fact is solar is not green due to the sheer amount of mining and coal burning needed to create the infrastructure for it. Your article details a plant that can power the equivalent of a small US town. If we look early in the docu and see the solar array that purportedly could only run about ten US homes, the scale of the one in India would have to be massive. Extrapolate that to running a country or the world? Impossible. Population and energy usage reduction are the most realistic solutions i think.

If we would turn it around then we could say that Europe and our own government is murdering people. A tree is a must have for clean air. Without trees we will die. And finally, Im not downgrading anyone's content by calling it "youtube docu" (you are the one calling me for that) it just happens to be the source.

I have been an environmental educator, advocate, and activist for many years, and I had my eyes opened many times in this film.
Watching those 500 year old Joshua trees get pulverized in the name of "green energy" was more than angering, it was painful, heartbreaking. (While watching this movie I was reminded of the somewhat recent moves by the Sierra Club to label John Muir - who did so much to save the redwood forests - a white supremacist. This together with its support of burning "wood chips" (forests) in the name of saving the environment shows the true colors of the Sierra Club.). @@betsyj59 I've kept my messenger notifications from Sierra Club active post documentary... and each time one comes through it reminds me of their hypocrisy.
@@betsyj59 I hundred percent agree with your feelings on the killing of the ancient Joshua trees! That was just gruesome and enraging.
The capitalistic mind loves to classify deserts (and swamps) as "wastelands" so they can exploited and abused in a whole variety of ways (nuke tests, military exercises, uranium mines, off-road vehicles, garbage dumps, toxic waste and radioactive waste dumps and so on...).
Even the ancient forests that I, and Muir, love(d) so much were up until very recently (and some still see them this way amazingly) were
considered by many to be biological deserts (see a slam on both the forests and the deserts) and cellulose cemeteries and were considered wasteful.
Their impacts on carbon cycling and water cycling and quality and biodiversity, much more manageable forest fires and so on... are incredibly beneficial to life as we know it.

All billionaires have not Conscience. Only care about their selves.

"it's not depressing" - Michael Moore on Stephen Colbert about the documentary... OK Michael.
Yes. It turns out that facing what is depressing might be most true much of the time, because we have an aversion to it so it rarely emerges.
Colbert and Moor are both New World Order pushing traitors!!!th-cam.com/video/_dB-H2viCYc/w-d-xo.html
Yes it’s depressing, but not just that. It’s also informative and transformative and impactful. Did you watch right until the end? After only two screenings it already made changes occur. So, when someone says it’s not depressing, maybe it means “it’s depressing, sure, but it’s necessary and there are other qualities beyond being depressing... so let’s not just give it that single adjective for it can be many more things beyond that “
Look at Colberts' body language - he doesn't believe a word and frankly nobody wants to give up a sh*t of his wealth...
What's depressing is that we have not used nuclear energy to it's full potential over the last 60+ years.
Do we really need an "Earth Day" to remind us we live on Earth and to treat it well? It should be Earth Everyday.

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”
György Gajdos you’re a drugged animal 😂
@György Gajdos Oh please. At least come up with something entertaining.
Those orangutans left with one tree. F^cking sad, man.
@@brutexrp7207 I'll have as many children as I please. Fuck off.
