It was supposed to be the mid-section of Burning My Soul... It would be for them to play BMS in its orginal form. DT 1991 - 2003 was something else!!! They didnt miss...
One of my favorite instrumental Dream Theater songs. I watch Mike's original video from time to time but I honestly like your cover! You're really enjoying it and the bell and double bass are spot on... Good work !
Well done my friend!! I really liked the touches and the non-literality in the drum cover... MP in 150% of its entirety as a Drummer, a true Masterpiece by DT
Thanks man, I really appreciate these kind words! 🙂 Did you also check out my other DT covers so far (Overture 1928 and Strange Deja Vu)? Glad you liked this one! 🙂
Awesome man, I love old DT especially this song! I was a drummer in a past life and Portnoy was who I modeled a lot of my style from. Short of you tossing and twirling the sticks during the ending buildup you nailed Mike's energy perfectly! So nice to see a drummer who doesn't look like a bored human metronome
this song was my entry point towards taking drum seriously. going from just a highschool kid who was just imitating the drum in songs, to wanting to understand rhythm at its basic form.
Excelente trabajo hermano Este disco completo es una joya totalmente olvidada de Dream Theater Y esta canción en específico una de mis favoritas de este álbum y sin dudas una de mis favoritas para tocar en batería... Grandeee
Thanks! 🙂 And I do agree on this song - although there are some odd-time-signatures it really doesn't "feel" that way, it's much more intuitive that one might think!
@@parttimedrummer2023 You need to be a skilled drummer to play this flawlessly. Unfortunately, I'm just a hobby drummer, so I've never been able to play this song without errors. But it really carries you along with the odd time signatures without having to think about it :)
by far my favorite DT instrumental, but one of my favorite tracks of all times... every instrument has its melody in place and works so well when stitched together. home recording is never easy for drums and it sounds good... the only thing I notice is that you will go dry if you play a full gig keeping the mouth open all the time... 🤭
Hi, I'm not a drummer, but I met Dream Theater through a drummer friend of mine who loves this song and it was love at first listen. Truly enveloping, sublime music. I was also at a Mangini demonstration evening years ago here in Italy. I would say that your cover shines and it’s so clear that you love performing this song. What do you think of Don't Stand So Close To Me by The Police regarding the drum part?
Thanks for the kind words! 🙂 Great that also non-drummers do like my stuff! 🙂 Concerning "Don't Stand So Close To Me": It's a great song for drums (I mean, almost every Police song is interesting in this way, thanks to Stewart Copeland), though (at least to me) not the most interesting of ther Oeuvre...
Thanks for answering me 🙂 Yes, I'm not a drummer, but I learned a little to isolate the various instruments while listening to music, and when you hear something good you can’ be indefferent. I like it, I like the drums of Don't Stand So Close To me too much, it's simple but it has dry, fast jokes, he seems like a metronome when he plays. I also liked Mangini at the demonstration, he was very fast, at one point he looked like the drum machine from Paul Hardcastle's Nineteen. I also really like Simon Philips on Africa by Toto and I like some YES songs like Changes or Make It Easy. Really a nice channel. Thanks again!
Thanks! 🙂 Quite interesting you mentioning Marco - I really did like his audition for DT's drummer's spot, while I rather disliked his style on the Steven Wilson albums he played. Yet, I listened to a lot of him and so - eventually - his playing has obviusly influenced mine a bit...
@@parttimedrummer2023 Although Steve Wilson is amazing musician and remarkable producer I just listen1 or 2 songs from Porcupine Tree (I don't know why). By the way It would be great if you could be cover some tracks from Marco in The Aristocrats.
It was interesting to hear your Paistes vs Mike's Sabians. We all work with what we've got but you could really use a snare mic, your snare really picks up the room.
Yeah, you're right, I gotta work with what I got - and I'm (generally speaking) quite happy with just the "one-mic-situation". Did you check some of my newer videos (e.g. The Sound of Muzak)? I made some adjustments and think it fits a little better..
@@parttimedrummer2023 I did listen to a couple more but the unfortunate fact remains that you're in what appears to be a small untreated room and only have whatever mic you have. You could get away with 2 overheads if there were at least some sound absorption and diffusion on the wall right behind you. There are cheap options out there like hanging carpet up. Anything is better than thin drywall with more thin drywall on the other side of a void. You'd probably also be surprised at how decent lower end mics can be, especially when it comes to condensers for drums. MXL and Samson are good examples.
@@RexJava75 Yeah, you're probably right! At least the room problem is gonna be solved in some time. We're actually moving into a different place where there's a complete new room planned, designed just for drumming. It might take a while until it's done, but at least there's some change ahead...
