- This weapon is FINALLY worth it in Terraria 1.4.4. Terraria 1.4.4 the labour of love update is here! And comes with a ton of weapons balancing changes which has completely overhauled the way the melee class functions. Weapons like the Terra Blade and Excalibur have seen massive improvements, which has similarly effected the Night's Edge, a legendary Terraria weapon was rather underwhelming in the past, now packs a massive punch due to the 1.4.4 changes!

The actual weapon is amazing but I personally can't stand the look of the swing effects, since to me at least it just looks like 2 circles that constantly flashing.
Maybe giving it's swing a unique shape would help. But the actual weapon is really great.
Something that you forget to mention is that not just the night's edge got buffed but also every sword that you use to craft the night's edge has been buffed witch makes you want to get the swords earlier witch makes it less tedious to get

The sword that was a mix of 4 swords. Yet it used to be worse than the Firey Greatsword... Now, it's better!
I have only played for a around 4 years, but I have watched this game on TH-cam since before it was even out. (By watching TH-camrs who got to play it before it came out.)

It’s really good against the destroyer. Shredded half of its health with molten armour, mid accessories and no damage buffs before I died
Yeah, with on-tier gear you can even take it out completely if you use good gear and don't int into it's head. Unironically the strongest true melee option for Destroyer now.
With adamantine armor and a warriors emblem, the fight was a breeze for me. Then, you get the ingredients for the Excalibur and light disks.

Same, nights edge is so iconic. Terra blade too, despite the fact that you usually could get an influx waver not too long after the terra blade, Id always go for it
same here, i craft it and use it in all my worlds, it had decent damage against any enemy that wasn't a boss or miniboss, i even have the irl prop in my room

I only got it for terra blade I just crafted it prehardmode so I didn’t have to grind stingers
I think the new nights edge is most definitely worth it and the true nights edge is amazing
tbh, I think the true nights edge is garbage. At first I thought it would be really good and much better than the true excalibur, but after trying it, I found that it does a much worse performance. Sure it can take out basic enemies or the mechs, but at the progression point you obtain it, the main things you could use it for is Plantera and Solar Eclipse. Both of these are shreaded by true excalibar, while the true nights edge falls behind. Heck, even the regular night edge performs better than the true nights edge (check out phantasm's new swords only run to see what I mean.) Overall, the true nights edge is 100% still worth crafting for the terra blade, but it's up to you if you want to use it instead of the far superior true excalibur.
@@darkstroyor agreed. I was super disappointed in the true night’s edge. it doesnt even outdamage the normal one at close range 😭 if they made the projectile pierce it’d be a different story

@@darkstroyor i think the true night's edge is pretty good, especially when you want to keep the distance or play defensively, but i think it's best to use both true weapons for the best results, depending on the situation. like face-tanking with the true excalibur and then keeping some distance with the true nigth's edge to regenerate life
Night's Edge is absolutely incredible, it can even take on most early hardmode mobs. Which it could have never done before.
I've been playing through expert mode recently after doing mm ftw so I could feel some semblance of joy, and i found that the night's edge is actually pretty decent against destroyer.

I recently did a swords only playthrough with the 1.4.4 buffs and the nights edge blew me away. Not only did it shred pre-hardmode, it was also surprisingly effective against many hardmode enemies and i even managed beat skeletron prime with it.
I'm not sure why this blew you away,it's(outside of arguably technicalities and cheese)post both skeleton and evil boss,it's one of the latest prehardmode weapons so it should be good against enemies and bosses there,swords are meant to be good against fighter ai enemies don't working there Isent that impressive,and beating skele is pretty decent tbf but it's also skelly prime vs high defense which is pretty 1 sided.
I was more blown away by the blade of grass, that things shreds the evil bosses and is amazing at crowd control.

This reworked Night’s Edge is an example of peak game design. Even if you’re a somewhat new player, you’ll naturally find yourself collecting the pieces for the sword because the game encourages you to check out all the areas of interest. The first boss, the corruption/crimson, the jungle, the dungeon, then finally the underworld. It’s all on purpose to lead you to the best weapon in pre-hardmode.
I feel sad because I accidentally killed wall of flesh too early now I can't enjoy the nights edge as much in hard mode :(

it actually fits well in the progression. the blade of grass is easy to get and carries you through either evil boss, then you get the volcano which slaughters skeletron, then you find murusama, and you can easily craft the corruption/crimson sword to craft night’s edge.
Yup, i see some opinions being like “almost too strong now” but really before melee was just a nothing burger. Never once have i used any of these. The only time i used them is fiery greatsword in a very narrow point in time where it can be the best option, then you get the beekeeper. I especially noticed using the volcano extensively now, and its my favorite pre hard mode weapon probably now because the thud is so funny when you explode enemies. It also one shots most prehardmode enemies which is just insane. I used blade of grass too, and murasama was the only one i didnt really use because i did skeletron last and you at that point immediately upgrade to the nights edge

Night's edge has become from one of the worst to one of the most exciting and useful I love the Meele reworks
The Nights Edge is how I want melee weapons to be. Instead of shooting a small projectile or just being a sword they should all be longer in the direction you aim like the nights edge.
Fully agree with how easy it is to make. 3 out of 4 swords are usually crafted naturally in a melee playthrough and going after 1 more is barely anything.

I was astonished at how good it is now. I was clearing space for the WoF fight when a voodoo demon dropped the voodoo doll in lava by accident and I didn't even need to use a quarter of the world to kill it

I'm really happy that we got so many swords reworked. It makes melee in higher difficulties less trash, and the reworked swords now do as a melee weapon should do. High damage, low range.
Hey sockrteez, a weapon I recommend since the horseman"s blade was nerfed, is the Ghastly Glaive, since you can spawn projectiles when hitting target dummies.
I've used the new night's edge in expert mode, and I can safely say it took me all the way from skeletron to the mechanical bosses.
id absolutely love to see a video on the blade of grass and excalibur
the blade of grass is really really good for a pre-boss sword since it has a projectile, and even though its low damage, its probably the best sword you can get other than maybe starfury
as for the excalibur, with its now huge range, it genuinely becomes a good option for the mech bosses despite being true melee. its surprisingly really good for the destroyer since it can deal with both the probes and the boss, and then beating destroyer can get you the new light discs which are really good for the remaining mech boss, especially paired with the new excalibur for when theyre close to you (i found the excalibur to be good to use when skeletron prime does their charge attack)
the nights edge is also really nice for the destroyer if you decide to fight them first which is awesome because having close range melee is something ive wanted for ages. even the new true nights edge and terra blade sort of veer into being closer range which is awesome, cause even though they have projectiles, they vanish much quicker generally near the edge of the screen, compared to before where you could just run for ages and have the projectiles hit with good off-screen aim

Late comment, but I gotta say, since 1.4.4 came out I've actually tried doing a proper melee playthrough and the Night's Edge is one of the points in the playthrough where you feel at the very height of power, even in a mode like Expert Mode.
The Night's Edge is everything you want in a melee weapon: it's got a massive hitbox that protects the player from close-to-mid range, it swings at a very nice speed, and it's excellent damage make short work of everything in pre-hardmode. Going from the copper shortsword to the various ore swords, and various other melee weapons and eventually getting the Night's Edge is an AMAZING sense of progression. 1.4.4 really knocks it out of the park with the melee class fantasy of being a powerful physical behemoth of the battle field.
ive actually been playing through as three classes at once (thx to the loudouts) and I've found myself using melee more than the others just because of how awesome the Nights Edge is now!
It’s definitely worth getting this weapon as a melee class since it’s also used to craft the true night’s edge later on in hardmode

My first terraria playthrough was on 1.2 on Xbox 360 and nights edge was one of my favorite weapons, very happy to see it got love
I absolutely adore how it kinda looks like the zenith, with the afterimage going behind and in front of the weapon
I just got it yesterday with my new melee character and I was shocked about the light’s bane with it’s new swing effects
The weapon is now so good you can use it all the way till the 1st mechanical boss (destroyer). It actually shreds through pre-HM enemies and can carry you through early hardmode. The true nights edge is also amazing, and the terrablade can carry you through the entire game now. Overall amazing change for melee ngl.

the new Night's Edge actually works really well for early Hardmode too. up to around when you have Adamantite/Titanium gear. it's Really good crowd control for the tough hardmode events like Solar Eclipses, and to say the least it's Definitely worth it for a Pre-Hardmode weapon.
LoL it can even shred the wall of flesh if used properly.
it can carry you too in hardmode defeating the destroyer with good armor and accessories.
I came back into this game after years of not playing it and not remembering anything and I made this sword cause I remembered it existed and it’s the only melee weapon that i don’t have to get it from contact damage every 2 seconds to me in early hard mode right now it’s so much fun to use
In older versions i used night's edge only to have light while underground and to craft zenith but now it's my main pre hm weapon
I mean.. it was a sword I crafted even in ranger and magic playthroughs for fun. Something like a trophy from each pre-hardmode stage.
You have no idea how much the sword of the night It helped me a lot in the beginnings of the hard mode, even to plantera
I have recently used the night's edge against a pre-hm blood moon during rain, and i can say it does well in both small and open spaces. It can shred it to pieces with only some molten armor and spectre boots / lightning

started a new play though on the newest version of mobile 2 weeks ago not knowing about all the changes and only started working on the nights edge early hardmode which bummed me out once i found out how much better it is

I didn’t see that melee got buffed in prehardmode too, so I got night’s edge just to get it out of the way so i could throw it in a chest until I needed it for the true night’s edge, and then I swung it and was very happy to see that this went from “big light’s bane” to “Zenith Jr.”

This is now undoubtedly my favorite weapon in the game. I always loved it for the concept and design but now I can say for certain that I not only love the concept of the weapon but that I like using it as well

Usually only crafted nights edge to later make terrablade and use other weapons for pre-hardmode and early hardmode
getting the swords for it felt cool ngl, really enjoyed going through the biomes and dungeon to get swords to make the night's edge, and it was worth it it really did help me get to hard mode, should've used it against the wall of flesh could've killed it quicker + that V of crimson and hallow it creates almost hit my house, currently it's barely a hallow biome and walking like 50 feet to the right brings you to a crimson desert
I wish they did this to other true melee weapons too besides swords used to craft the terra blade. It felt like I was stuck using the nights edge for most of pre hardmode after I killed skeleton and most of early hardmode until I got everything for the true nights edge and Excalibur. When I went into hardmode I crafted a titanium sword and many others but was underwhelmed by it after using all the reworked swords and I just threw them into the shimmer to get my materials back.

Night's edge was an item I'd craft in any world regardless of my class in pre-hardmode, mostly to craft terra blade then in 1.4 zenith but now that it's actually good I'm glad I'll be getting a lot more use out of it

On my 1st ever playthrough (started playing in 1.4.4) on classic mode i used this weapon till i got the materials for terra blade, and then went with it

note you will still struggle on master and expert mode as it can sometimes not be enough to take out the hungreys and hard to get away fast enough when the wall of flesh gets faster
Hi i'm new terraria player who start playing like a week ago, I was looking in terraria's wiki when I saw this weapon and I instantly love it, so I started searching the materials and after like 5 days I finally get it and it's completely worth it, now I'm on my way to defeat the wall of flesh after defeating all the pre-hardmode bosses and get the True Night's Edge, my goal it's create the Zenith and have three of the swords of the final recipe. I have also seen your videos and now I know some weapons that can help in my travel through hardmode, thanks 👍🏻, new subscriber.

I actually started a new melee character for 1.4.4 because I heard about the weapon reworks and I was hesitant to craft this blade instead of keeping the Fiery Greatsword (can’t remember it’s new name), but it is definitely worth it.
It’s also great for exploring the underground jungle and desert because its projectile can find new, unexplored caves.

I was playing the zenith seed, I was stuck on the Wall. With the night's edge, i went from dying when the wall is at half hp to killing it without going under 50% hp
Use to only craft it for terra blade but will happily use it now
It absolutely shreds queen bee and wall of flesh! I built a super long platform for wall of flesh expecting the fight to be long and hard but I only used a third of it.
The volcano broad sword is also really good! I would say it's comparable to night's edge
They also reworked the true nights edge and terra blade so it makes more sense to get the nights edge just to craft those
i got the quickest legit Wall of Flesh kill i've ever gotten with the nights edge, absolutely insane for a weapon that was previously cast aside in favor of something with more range like the flamerang (I was on normal mode though, but judging by this video it seems to hold up in at least expert mode)

Just finished my melee playthrough in an expert world, and it was VERY FUN. The true night's edge's projectile is a bit underwhelming but it didn't take long before i could turn it into the terrablade which absolutely rocks.
this item might be the best melee for pre hardmode later being upgraded to the true nights edge giving it a small bit more power and finally the terrablade which is probably the best pre moon lord melee weapon then that gets upgraded to the zenith so it wont be lying in a chest for long

I played a melee playthrough when labor of love came out (casual mode) and it absolutely destroyed the mech bosses with ichor flasks plus after that I could upgrade it to true knight's edge which destroyed plantera which then meant i could upgrade it further to the terrablade absolutely worth getting to breeze through hardmode with a melee build
Made one and i as a ranger was amazed by how strong it is
This thing was honestly amazing when I did a 1.4.4 Master Mode Melee Playthrough. Easily beat the WoF with it, and it carried me through hardmode and I even beat the Destroyer with just the Night's Edge, at which point it got thrown in the chest until I crafted the Terra Blade because... Excaliber exists.
So yeah, it can carry you through the end of Pre-Hardmode and your first Mech Boss easily.
fu dude, when you showed the damage comparison of the old and new nights on the wof edge it made me remember back in 1.2 when i thought the nights edge would wreck the wof and it never worked. good times indeed
Before the buff all people crafted the knights edge for was to get the terra blade but now it’s actually useful in pre hard mode. Recently I got back into terraria and I wanted to get the knights edge so I could get the terra blade later on but when I first used it I realized they gave it a buff finally 10/10 melee weapon now
i remember playing 1.3 on my switch looking up the best melee weapon pre hardmode and being so underwhelmed

I went straight for the grass blade on my play through where I won because it was the best weapon I could get really early on
I would like to point out this thing has a higher DPS than its hallowed contemporary, the Excalibur. Which you can only obtain after beating at least one mech boss.
We all love the new night's edge, but why bother lying/exaggerating? Excalibur has a slightly faster swing speed and much higher damage, meaning that it's impossible for it to have lower DPS...
@@knuckles3856 If I had to guess, the night’s edge may work slightly differently than the excalibur. Either that, or something about it just works better on the destroyer whose use as a test dummy is what I a drew my assertion from.

I always used Starfury to take down wall of fllesh but yesterday i got my hands on new and improved Night's Edge and it is good, I like how both Starfury and Night's Edge got buffs so you can deal early game enemies and late pre hardmode bosses
Starfury is God tier. So many way you can use the sword. The only sword I used until Night's Edge

@@lightingthief4482 not really,it just seems like that because your comparing it to pre 1.4.4 pre hardmde melle which was utterly pathetic.
Compared to properly busted pre boss weapons,starfury is in a different universe than demon scythe(you know,a actually op weapon when gotten pre boss).
And compared to only good weapons like say tendon bow(reasonable to get post 1.4 making ore more common) starfury combines not working well with platforms with a inability to have high pierce a inability to work well underground being harder to hit with and doing less dps to make a far inferior weapon.
Star fury is not bad but don't call it god tier,you didn't use it against wof because it's good you used it because it's competition was other melle weapons.
@@zacharyadams3422 dude it is not that serious BUT if you want to put on the glasses, I can too. Starfury is extremely good throughout prehardmode for multiple reasons. For one you CAN use it on the bosses, including WoF. Two you can obtain it right at the beginning of the game if you're lucky. Three you can use it to shoot enemies from afar while underground AND you don't have to have a path to them. Extremely handy for tricky enemies you dont want to get near. Four you can also use it to scan around to find loot if you don't have access to that glowstick or potion.
In summary it is good. Period. Everyone been saying that, including youtubers. There are better options but the weapon *is* good. End of discussion
@@lightingthief4482 it is good,im aware,but you said it was god tier,if it actualy was god tier it would be a viable wof weapon not just barely usable,you can only use starfury against all of prehardmode because expert mode is a meme,nothing about it is actualy impressive enough to be considered god tier.
That was one of my incontournable weapon to build before 1.4.4, but now i'm really happy about this upgrade
Like all of the other melee reworks such as a good portion of the spears, this will make me want to use Nights Edge in my next play through, which will be a melee play through.
OG night's edge Is why I'm in hardmode(was using big fire sword before and couldn't beat WOF, with NE I could)
I remember a time when the muramasa was the more ideal sword because of the auto swing and with how high you could get the dps
i did craft it and its insane i even used it against the mech destroyer and it did pretty well,its a amazing rework loved using it,i wish it was stronger so i could use iot longer xd

Yeah, I love that melee can now actually face wall of flesh without that much if an issue. Up until 1.4 basically the only option was something like star fury, 1.4 reworked flails so you could use the sun fury and now night's edge is a valid option! I'm really happy with changes like these
There has certainly been a resurgence of more true melee terraria play throughs
Night's edge is also good with Skeletron prime and the destroyer, you could also use it for plantera but it sucks against bosses like the eyes and fishron
Genuinely this thing is so good, it even works in early hardmode pretty well
The blade of grass is really underated as a pre boss sword, its leaf projectiles can shred the eye of cuthulu
This thing is so powerful that I even use it against destroyer then upgrade to something like the Excalibur or shadow flame knife
Had a world that I wanted to max out in prehardmode for a year now. And I remember loving Night's edge despite its shortcomings. Now I genuinely have more fun with it in my melee warrior in that world!
I haven’t used it yet because i dont usually play vanilla. I like to add QOL mods like ore excavator and fargos mutant mod, among others. Eventually TModLoader will get updated to 1.4.4 and i can run my true melee class with the rework.
This buff has made the sword actually somewhat viable in early hardmode too. I beat Destroyer within two minutes with the thing, Adamantite armor, and most accessories going towards melee speed.
I was struggling on expert mode WoF using melee class then the 1.4.4 update came out and I shredded it without buffs or even bees, and it’s carrying me up to the mech bosses
