- Jones honors Cornell with bluesy, solo-piano rendition of Soundgarden classic...
"Black Hole Sun" is a song by US rock band Soundgarden. Written by frontman Chris Cornell, the song was released in 1994 as the third single from the band's fourth studio album Superunknown (1994). It is arguably the band's most recognizable and most popular song, and remains a well known song from the 1990s. Cornell stated, "It's just sort of a surreal dreamscape, a weird, play-with-the-title kind of song."
Norah Jones performed a solo piano cover of the Soundgarden hit "Black Hole Sun" on Tuesday night in tribute to Chris Cornell, who dies at age 52. Jones was playing at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, which was also the site of Cornell's final show.
On May 17, 2017, Cornell died in Detroit after performing at a show with Soundgarden, according to his representative, Brian Bumbery. Footage of the concert surfaced on TH-cam the next day. Detroit Police said they were investigating Cornell's death as a possible suicide. Later the same day, the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office ruled Cornell's death as a suicide by hanging.
Jones brought "Black Hole Sun" into her wheelhouse, toning down the crashing drone of the original and remaking it as a spare, bluesy number. She sketched a melody with handsome piano chords, and as she sang, she stretched words and toyed with the space between them. Around the four-minute mark, Jones suddenly left tranquility behind by elevating her volume and wailing the song's title several times. The performance came to a peaceful end with a quiet, melancholy figure on the piano.

Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun Lyrics
Songwriters: CHRIS CORNELL
In my eyes, indisposed
In disguises no one knows
Hides the face, lies the snake
And the sun in my disgrace
Boiling heat, summer stench
'Neath the black the sky looks dead
Call my name through the cream
And I'll hear you scream again
Black hole sun
Won't you come
And wash away the rain
Black hole sun
Won't you come
Won't you come (Won't you come)
Stuttering, cold and damp
Steal the warm wind tired friend
Times are gone for honest men
And sometimes far too long for snakes
In my shoes, a walking sleep
And my youth I pray to keep
Heaven sent hell away
No one sings like you anymore
Black hole sun
Won't you come
And wash away the rain
Black hole sun
Won't you come
Won't you come
Black hole sun
Won't you come
And wash away the rain
Black hole sun
Won't you come
Won't you come (Black hole sun, Black hole sun)
Won't you come (Black hole sun, Black hole sun)
Won't you come (Black hole sun, Black hole sun)
Won't you come (Black hole sun, Black hole sun)
Hang my head, drown my fear
Till you all just disappear
Black hole sun
Won't you come
And wash away the rain
Black hole sun
Won't you come
Won't you come
Black hole sun
Won't you come
And wash away the rain
Black hole sun
Won't you come
Won't you come (Black hole sun, Black hole sun)
Won't you come (Black hole sun, Black hole sun)
Won't you come (Black hole sun, Black hole sun)
Won't you come (Black hole sun, Black hole sun)
Won't you come (Black hole sun, Black hole sun)
Won't you come (Black hole sun, Black hole sun)
Won't you come
Won't you come

When I’m in my 70’s, I will sit and listen to this in my rocking chair and tell my grandchildren what great music was
I´m a metalhead for almost 40 years and have to say: this is amazing, the best Norah Jones I ever heard.
Talent knows talent. Respect.

Man, I'm really makin myself cry tonight wtf
This beautiful Norah Jones rendition of "Black Hole Sun" was recorded at the Fox Theatre in Detroit on May 23, 2017, a touching tribute to the late Chris Cornell who had performed there with Soundgarden six days earlier. The exterior night-time drone-shot footage which starts at 6:30 in the video rises from the pavement of Woodward Avenue up the face of the Fox Theatre, ending with a view of the MGM Grand Hotel half a mile beyond, where Cornell took his life following his final performance. The hotel is visible in the center, just to the left of the superimposed image of Norah seated at her piano. (The building on the right edge with colored lights is a different casino.)
Chris Cornell was murdered, as was Chester Bennington for exposing a child sex ring inside of the U.S goverment.
This deserves way more views.
