I gotta say: I started listening to Taylor when Tim McGraw came out (I was a teenager) and I've never seen her live. I have literally gone to 2 live shows IN MY LIFE: Elton John and Ed Sheeran (Ed's in 2019 because I could finally pay it myself!! 😍). Same with physical CDs, I don't have CDs (only Queen and inherited from my dad! / Now I have TVs heeeheee). So yes I believe you can be a swiftie without tons of merch or live shows on your back. I never asked my parents for money when I was a student. Thank the world for youtube!!! 😮💨
Same, however I heard her for the first time with love story, and my first album I could own is Red TV following it with Midnights. Never seen anyone live, but love their tour videos. My parents never heave us allowance so I never had money, and since I a crippling with student debt, I can rarely afford her merchandise and other expensive things. So you can be a fan with out those things.
Yeah I got to this point in the video, and the same thing with me. I couldn’t afford to go to a concert when I was younger, and wasn’t really active on Twitter until the pandemic. Nevertheless, I also have been a fan since Love Story.

She came up on my fyp a while back, when the whole “it’s just Ashley” thing started, and even then I immediately got bad vibes from her. It’s so obvious that she’s deliberately trying to act like Taylor, to an extent that is beyond concerning. And like you guys said, the problem is not “looking” like Taylor and getting money from it, but continually lie over and over again about everything all the damn time and pretend you’re this selfless, innocent person who doesn’t care about money.

I've been a fan since Teardrops on my Guitar came on when I first heard it playing in the cat room while working at an animal shelter at 20 years old..I'm 36 now and have never had anyone to go to shows with so have only seen her 1 time during the fearless tour (tried to get into 1989, even went to the stadium and listened from outside but couldn't afford even face tickets..) til eras tour when I went twice in Vegas. I'm not a teenage girl and never was the entirety of my time as a fan so never felt the need to order merch that is very much catered to teenagers.. I've always just bought the albums at record stores and have all of the cds and vinyls from over the years but that doesn't stop me from being a real fan. It's not a contest to be a fan of any musician..I know it feels like that when you're younger but none of that shit matters as a grown ass adult. I own a business and have a mortgage and don't have time to be on tumblr or tiktok or whatever tf 😂

I was off TikTok for several months until Eras started (I was too obsessed, I had to stop) and wasn’t even really on stan twitter, so I missed the whole Grammy thing! To be fair- early concert attendance/merch isn’t the best thing to judge on but she likely wasn’t a full on “swiftie” if she listened in 2006. I listened to a few Taylor swift songs starting in 2006 (I turned 8yrs in nov that year) with our song I think? but I stayed mainly a casual radio listener until I started using TH-cam/iTunes and really got to commit when I started using Spotify in like 2014? Idk just briefly before she removed everything from Spotify. But anyways I was poor and my mom doesn’t like Taylor so I’ve never been to a show or anything yet. She even came to my small hometown in 2007 when she played at trails west and I was one of the only girls that didn’t get to go bc my mom didn’t wanna go 😂

CREEEEEEPY😮 When I was in my mid 20s and twilight was real big 😑 my face still baby, my hard was dark, and my RBF has never left 😂😅 and I would CHRONICALLY get told/asked if I knew who I looked like. Mind you, I’m older than her, but it was mostly Kristen Stewart and then Kiera Knightly (which only happened when I smiled/laughed 😂😂which was rare) but I went to great lengths to change EVERYTHING about my look. I don’t think she had plastic surgery but the pillow face from the fillers is obvious, it’s actually what’s making her look less like Taylor over time. A few years ago her cheeks weren’t as full, she could’ve gained weight but it usually doesn’t settle in only one part of the face she’d have a double chin too. But her face is VERY puffy looking for someone who’s never gotten filled, supposedly.

This is giving me being told I look like Snow White my entire life (pale, dark curly hair) and running with it. Sometimes I’d put a red bow in my hair or wear blue and yellow, I have blue eyes (snow has brown) so I’d just say “I’m blue eyed Snow White”. Some thoughts on Taylor, whom I have loved and supported for years. (Admittedly I’ve had a parasocial breakup with her).
She defended herself in the name of feminism against a line in Ginny and Georgia (“You go through men faster than Taylor Swift”). This was fine, but her “feminist” statement fell extremely flat when her fans went after the woman (a POC) who delivered the line with racist hate and literal threats of death and Taylor said nothing. The hate Antonia received was featured on the news. Taylor and her PR team keep a close ear to the ground, especially with regard to news stories where her name is concerned. She is seemingly very preoccupied with her own reputation. She and her team had to have known about this. Her feminist statement proved to be the opposite of that. It was self-serving. Taylor is not a feminist. If she was, she would have come to Antonia’s defense. True feminism is intersectional, meaning that it recognizes that women of color face discrimination twofold.
*No, she did not make those death threats and can’t control her fans, but what she CAN control is her own use of her voice and platform. And in this example (and in countless others), she used her power in such a way as to endanger someone else. The song Better Than Revenge resulted in fans bullying Camilla Belle and slut shaming her, just as Taylor did. They were following her example. She told fans to let Scooter know how you feel about the masters controversy but then said nothing as his home address was leaked online and death threats were sent to him and his family. There is such a thing as stoking the flames without being the direct aggressor. She knows what she is doing, knows the consequences, and says nothing because saying nothing is better for her name and brand. Feel free to disagree, but to me that’s evil. I have heard the argument that Beyoncé does it too, and I don’t doubt that. What I will say I’ve observed is that Beyoncé stays out of it. That’s not a good look either, but she doesn’t stoke the flames like Taylor does. It’s giving Tr*mp and I’m not about that.
It’s like her fans literally have blinders on because they love her so much. They twist themselves into pretzels to justify the things that she does and are seemingly unable to say that these things she does are often wrong (ethically speaking). Anything you bring up, no matter how egregious, they try to refute it with a reason that bad behavior “isn’t that bad” or should be dismissed. Or they say mean and hateful things to the person making the comment trying to hold Taylor accountable. I have gotten A LOT of hate and I have not once been disrespectful to anyone. There is a reason people are afraid to say anything against Taylor Swift. And that’s not okay, tbh. That music critic who gave Folklore an 8/10 was just doing her job and she didn’t deserve to have her personal info leaked and death threats sent to her. At what point should a celebrity feel an obligation to set the tone for their fanbase?
She has consistently been insensitive to racial issues. She (and her team) attempted to silence a blogger in 2017 for saying she should denounce white supremacy, rather than try to silence the literal Daily Stormer, a major right-wing publication (cited and quotes by the blogger) for saying that she shared their beliefs. I do not believe that Taylor is liberal, even if she is trying to throw us off of her scent by claiming to be liberal at the exact moment cancel culture was coming for her. A person does not refuse to denounce white supremacy for years only to become passionate about anti-racism, feminism, and social causes at the exact moment when the cultural climate shifts in favor of the Left. Miss Americana was the most contrived thing I have ever seen. Seriously, where was that energy for the actual white supremacists saying she was one of them? why was it directed at some small blogger saying that she needed to speak up? We know why. Because Taylor is a capitalist who wanted the money of those white supremacist fans. But prioritizing making money over squashing life-ending hate is evil.
This fandom is beyond toxic and honestly interacting with fans who will defend her no matter what shitty behavior you mention to them is a bit creepy.
And so many people say “why are you even here if you feel this way. You are wasting your time. Get off this thread.” Or “get a life” or “you are trying to spread hate” or even “It happens in every fandom”. Or my personal favorite “Go seek professional help.” (Which is classic deflecting and also not cute to act like mental illness is a sick burn). Saying these things instead of validating the person with these real and valid concerns ensures that the situation will never improve (AKA enabling). It’s also a great way to silence all critics, which, when people have valid things to say, is bad. It’s similar to a strategy used by racists. People say “ugh you’re making this about race” or “uh oh, not the race card again” or “but white people suffer too” in effect to stymie progress towards breaking down racist barriers.
Taylor is charming and that can be a trap because it makes people not want to hold her accountable. But we still should. She will only bend if we put that pressure on her. In my mind that’s how a real fan should act. Anything else is looking the other way/corruption.
This is FOR SURE an unpopular opinion but I don’t have enough information on the whole Scooter Braun thing to be convinced he is a bad guy, nor have I been able to find any through my internet searches. I mean, he’s a billionaire probably, and they are all ethically compromised. But how do we know he did something wrong other than buying a record label? I personally feel worse about the fact that Taylor told fans to go off on him and didn’t say anything when his family got death threats and was doxxed than I do about anything a Google search can reveal Scooter has done, but maybe I am missing something. I am not saying he is not a creep. I’m just not sure I’m on the same page as everyone who is super outraged. What are we supposed to be mad at him for? I’d really appreciate answers to this question because being informed is important to me.
Ultimately, she doesn’t feel like a good person to me. The fact that she donates money to charities doesn’t change that. Oftentimes when celebrities do that it’s performative, and I have no reason to believe this is an exception.
I loved her growing up. She CAN be better. But she has no motivation to because so many of us kiss the ground she walks on. We need to do better as a fandom. This behavior that we enable is toxic and gross.

I can't be bothered addressing every part of your comment, but I think your standards for her are unfair and honestly impossible. Imo she is absolutely a good, king and generous person. As long as you don't fuck with her, and honestly those people that do seem to usually deserve what comes to them and it isn't always from her anyway. The only thing that I have always thought was not okay was her viewpoint in better than revenge, but 90% of the girls I went to school with at that time would have had about the same view then too, luckily most would have grown since then, including Taylor 😊

There is nothing impossible about coming to the defense of another woman in a conversation about FEMINISM that Taylor herself started, particularly when comments turned racist. Feminism is nothing if it’s not intersectional. There is also nothing impossible about denouncing white supremacy. It’s compassionate and it’s human. What’s unfair isn’t my standard, it’s a feminism that historically abandons certain women, and Taylor has allowed that to continue on her platform, yet she addresses comments about her dating life as if it’s a huge sexist injustice. Its fine for her to do that but not fine to be silent about racism in a convo about feminism that she started. I’m not saying she can address every instance, but if it’s a conversation she started, then no, I won’t think highly of her as a result. It’s hypocritical for her to claim feminism as part of her brand if only to behave like this.
