    This video was so inspiring to me! I've been exploring the copywriting world for a few weeks now and watching SO many TH-cam videos about it. There are so many awesome people out there sharing this whole world I didn't even know existed and I've been drinking it in and I really want to be a part of it! I've been writing every day for the past week, just little journal entries if you will and just trying to learn the trade but it's hard to navigate where to start. I'm outgoing but like you said, but I'm also hesitant to be so public. If you have any advice for me that would be so incredible :)

    • @AlexCattoni
      @AlexCattoni  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aww that's so great! I'm excited for you :) honestly I would advise that you stop "drink it all in" and instead focus on learning one thing at time! Study that particular thing (like ads, emails, etc.) and practice, practice. Then you can move on to learning & practicing another asset. But in my experience, if you try to learn it all all at once, you'll end up overwhelmed!
      Good luck!

    Hey Alex, I have a question for you! If you have any insight to share, do you think there is a large pay gap between freelance copywriters and those who work for an agency? In my experience, it seems even part time freelancers are often able to make more than agencies pay. Do you think agencies lowball or undervalue copywriting work?
    Transparency - I work at an agency full time as a UX copywriter and $17k is about half my pay for the year!

    • @ambigious3854
      @ambigious3854 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Erin. Working for an agency means your approx. income for an hour or per characters including spaces is always lower than you could potentially make on a freelance. Marketing agencies are still companies so that it means they will try to make the highest profit margin while reducing the costs. I think It's pretty logical. But is it fair? Well, agencies often offer the tides of tasks & standing orders. And typically there's plenty of work to do, so you don't worry that they'll run out of things to write. Thus you feel secure and calm.
      I.e. in Poland agencies pay approx. $1,7-2,5/1000 characters with spaces. Freelancer can make from $5 up to 10$ for text of similar quality. A good agency with fair and well-paid salary shows up once in a blue moon.
      As a UX copywriter you should be able to find quite well-paid job for a company not an agency. ;)

    • @AlexCattoni
      @AlexCattoni  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes - you make less working in an agency. BUT you also don’t need to hunt for clients, handle admin, billing, etc. so you save on expenses. Agency work is a great way to get your feet wet and learn/grow before going out on turn own!!
      @ambigious nailed it with their feedback!

    • @AlexCattoni
      @AlexCattoni  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It may be a variety of things... They might be a "bigger" business (aka they make more money and can afford to pay more), or they might be hiring you to do MORE work, or they might understand the value of a copywriter and are willing to pay more, etc. There's lots of factors that go into a business decision on how much they are willing to pay.

    I’d love to know how many hours per week successful copywriters work? I realize it varies…but a ballpark would be beautiful.

    • @AlexCattoni
      @AlexCattoni  ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right, it totally varies!! In general, you'll find that you have to work more hours in the beginning years if you want to make into the $10k-20k range like this... Simply because your rates are lower in the beginning, which means you need more clients. So I would assume you'd probably be working"full-time" hours (40/week) to reach this level. Then as you gain experience, you'll slowly be able to raise your rates and work fewer hours to make the same amount - or even more

    Happy for her but honestly this kind of money is only possible for a writer from a "first world" country. Clients won't even entertain newbies who aren't "native English speakers". An inconvenient truth which no freelancing guru wants to discuss is that the Freelance world is also biased much especially for services like writing. For "third world" newbie writers like me, even securing that one client is a task let alone earning those many dollars. I have come across fellow writers from India (where I'm based) and Pakistan who sell their services for 5 USD per Sales article. Forget 17k USD, even 1k USD a month is asking for too much in our case.

    Wow, Jenny is awesome. I LOVE how simple she is. How can you be that calm making upwards of $15,000 each month??!!
    If I were her, I'd have turned up with some BLING, BLING ... just because she deserves it.
    You're making them so much money, so WHY the FUCK NOT??!!
    Also, Alex, please pass on this Extravagant Challenge to Jenny, "Go right now and buy yourself a nice cute pair of Libelibotta Christian Louboutins! It's a dare! You won't regret it."
    QUESTIONS for Alex:
    >> When nurturing a conversation with a potential client, do you talk about copywriting-related stuff or just random stuff?
    >> What does it really mean to approach a potential client on a value-first basis?
    >> What about job boards that ask for your CV, Resume, and all that unnecessary stuff?
    Great video, Alex.
    Jenny's a sweet soul and an inspiring person. 😊😊😉

      Thanks for your questions!
      I have a video about running discovery calls with potential clients that should help answer question 1: th-cam.com/video/-Rj4pro7wKA/w-d-xo.html
      question 2: approaching a client on a value-first basis means that BEFORE you ever ask for work, you are giving them legitimate value of some sort. Whether it be practical advice, tips, your time, or a free writing sample, etc.
      question 3: if a job board asks for them, then I would provide them - otherwise your application likely won't be looked at all.
      GOOD LUCK

    Great interview. Thank you. But what is the purpose of the foul language? It just doesn't suit you; you're more classy than swearing makes you appear, don't you think so?

      Totally understandable that the language is not for everyone. Thanks for still being here and watching! ⚡️
