Have you replaced the timing chain plastic guides? They should be replaced due to age. These are interference engines and regardless of how well taken care of or how smooth the engine runs-when the plastic guides break-the valves will strike the top of pistons. Replace those timing chain guides. Also parts are becoming very difficult to find or are no longer manufactured.
Beautiful car. That’s the exact same color I have on mine, 1989 420SEL. I like the wood shifter…nice touch.
