Thanks for the lesson. I just started playing the cajon and this has really helped me by getting the right sound out of it. Is it correct that the high slap tone and the slap tone don't vary as much in sound as the slap and the bass tone do, or could it be that I am I playing one of them wrong?
+Manuka Rhüns Hey there! Good question. Yes, the slap tone and the high slap tone are sometimes not too different. It also depends on the cajon you have. Listen for the higher pitch with the high slap. It is just your fingertips that should be playing it. Stay tuned for a video on this. Thanks. - Paul.
Hi Manuka..I saw the reply after 4 years and im pretty sure u may the grate cajon player now.But the paul jennings lesson in correct. At a glance the beginner cant identify from where the correct tone comes from the cajon at your need. Thats why its different with electronic drum and this is very same to the acoustic drum.Even if you want to play hi hat its tone is in there and mostly that hi hat tones comes from the upper part of the cajon as he said hi slap & around the slap area. Often play will brings you the color of the correct tone.
Carlos, no problem. I am glad you like the lessons. I do not have a basics lesson 2 or t3 but I do have the first part of my beginner course for free on TH-cam and the rest you can find on playcajon.org Good luck with it! - Paul
Hey there. What type of Cajon are you using? I have played many expensive and low-cost cajons and what I have found is the same technique applies to all that I have used. I would be interested to hear about your experience though. All the best. - Paul
Even though I am right handed, I naturally want to keep the main rhythm in my left hand. This is because I play advanced level classical & jazz piano and most of the time the LH is the accompaniment and rhythm keeper.
Hey - Nice lesson. Thank you for posting these lessons and helping our global drumming community.
Great Basics lesson. It's always important to cover essentials. Every drummer needs this.
Thank you so much Kalani! I love what you do. - Paul

Is cajon same as Beatbox?
note: "this apply only for expensive sela cajon, if you are using 33$ cajon or below like me, you have to go all the way down for bass note"
