Adrian borland not bad too tho lol. Fkn luv this band a happy 40th I was born when this great band went painfully unnoticed. That's a great deal to do with how great borland and the sound were. R.i.p genius
Every single song The Sound did were great, it's a crime they weren't famous even though they are for Greatest Post/Punk band of all time. Makes you sick to the stomach to think that shitty bands these days like The Kings of Leon Coldplay etc are so well known and get all of the attention R.I.P Adrian you are so special, a true genius
My boyfriend took me to see them in Bristol. Best gig I have ever been to (and I have been to many over the years). This song is one of my all time favourites and I never, ever get tired of hearing it. In some ways I am pleased that no-one I know has ever heard of them but I do wish they had enjoyed the blazing success they so very much deserved. "But I can, I can see, a distant victory, a time when you will be with me..." sigh...
I love the intensity of the vocal in this song and im having goosebumps when im hearing this...i love this type of music and the sound delivered it prfectly
It's hard to believe it's already been 13 years since your passing. Thank you for all of the incredible music, Adrian. It really pulled me through some dark days.
This a beautiful song from a mis- interrupted band .The Sound take back to 81' on all those dark gloomy wet windy days of my youth living in Wellington NZ
So pure and sweet, it's sad that people hurt this man and in his last hour he must've felt very alone.... This world is a cruel place to beautiful souls 💔
Боже!!!грудь разрывается,какой бас,какие клавиши .вокал выразительный .Саунд для меня самая сильная группа.очень повлияла на меня и мой вкус.спасибо Вам
One of the best songs in history. The singer committed suicide (I don't know the reasons, but, in any case, we respect them). That doesn't make this song better or worse, because this song is one of the best in music history, whether we believe it today or not. In any case, may the earth be light to him and the world he has suffered as well. Great song he has left in the world, not like what many of us can leave.
Yeah. It also was his own favorite song… There’s a new book about Adrian Borland’s life. It goes into his personal struggles, but also all the music. Highly recommended.
I once heard a song in 81, or 82, "winning" and it kept hanging in my head. Searched for the band and bought the album (from the lions mouth). Played it till it was grey. Bought Thunder Up too, same thing and another live album. That was pretty much the End. Where Dep mode, Duran Duran, SImple minds, U2, etc etc all got to be famous, Adrian and his band didnt and there was no reason at all why they shouldnt have been in the spotlight. The music was great... and still is. After the Sound broke up and Adrian struggled... i found another gr8 song of his, years later in a '2m sessions' album. It was a radio show by the Dutch 'DJ' Jan Douwe Kroeske in which he always had a band, famous or less famous, play a song live. Adrian was assisted for this one by the dutch guitarist 'Wouter Planteyd'. It must have been early to mid 90ies somewhere. I always bought those 2m session albums, bc they were good. The title is "The big wheel" and tells about someone seeing things from the bottom up. And what he sees is a big wheel where everyone is trying to be on top, or at least stay on.... He isnt anymore. There is a reference in it that i didnt understand at the time. That is, i felt it, but i didnt exactly know what he meant. "They say for 2000 years; its always been the same. The same names running the same games, on the big wheel" Since then ive learned a lot again and i now know. Without getting political, it is smth more and more ppl notice and it is actuality now. I guess it always was, for those who knew. Adrian was early... th-cam.com/video/XZZo26IdbjI/w-d-xo.html This song is imo the best, purist, raw ones Adrian did. Somehow it became magic, maybe bc he literally got under the big wheel. I learned to play the song and even though i dont play guitar much anymore and my voice is starting to fade bc of my age and many years of heavy smoking, i still do this one... Years after his death i found out and was shocked. He jumped in front of a train in London in 99. I guess the wheel got the better of him. And ive lost an arm and a leg too bc of that wheel. Almost kicked the bucket too. But im still here to testify. RIP Adrian.
The tragedy is that they/Adrian refused to be more commercial and tow the line but then craved the respect and adulation. A truly tortured genius if only he could have found peace and contentment I think he’d have been revered had he stayed with us. Rip.
The bass player in this band is incredible!

Grahams bass is the back bone of the song but Borlands lyrics give it it's soul
Rough but highly creative and tight at the same time . One of those occasions that the bass overrides the drums .
They're all incredible!

RIP Adrian. If only he knew how much he was loved.

I was hurt, terribly, by a woman many years ago. I guess I'm lucky in that I didn't commit suicide. But I heard that her husband wasn't so lucky
