After years of hearing knife reviewers rave about the Penguin I finally bought one. I haven’t carried it yet; may not now after seeing your test results.
Nice torture test I just bought one of these it’s a cheap $$ liner lock but not as good as a rat 2 maybe. Keep up the good tests I’ll keep watching bros
The rat 2 is way better in D2 steel, this pinguin is absolutely dissapointment how can you buy this knife.Better try Ontario Rat1 or Rat2 and than speak is not good, hahahaha, looser.
Great knife for my needs great cutter for finess with paper and light whittling has some blemish issues with time and pocket lint but is great and easy to keep the edge, and cleaning is an oiled rag
The blade up close looks like it didn't get a proper strop. The sharpening burr was still there and I'd bet the blade would've been way better if it was properly de-burred.
I am always skeptical of the seller as well. I've seen items from Amazon (for example) prove that the seller gave some people USED items, not brand new from factory, so a proper torture test is to sharpen the blade first, then start the test. No one should not buy a blade simply because it's not perfectly sharpened from the factory, if the rest of the knife is great for the price, just learn to sharpen your knives, you'll have to do it one day anyway. I plan on getting the brass handle penguin, and I'm not put off by this test in anyway. ☺️
Was hoping you would do the Penguin after the Parrot. Thanks guys!!! We now know way too much about your body hair but totally worth it for the amazing reviews haha. Performance wasn't as stellar as the Parrot but it looks like it'd be fine for most everyday stuff. The design is quite nice for sure, so it's hard not to like it even if it's not perfect.
I love sheepsfoot blades like this, great for utilitarian tasks. My favorite is when they have a bit up an upswept tip but still have it low like with the mini griptillian with the hole. Seems like a lot of this could have had to do with having a poor factory edge. It might start doing better once you've sharpened it a few times to get through any edge problems from the factory. Knivesplus had an exclusive version of this with denim micarta handles and s35vn for 60 btw, which is a solid upgrade and price. Hope they eventually get more back in stock.
This is what you call poor cutting geometry. The penguin is vastly to thick behind the edge to be a great cutter. That's why you can't cut the sisal rope with it. The edges come at like 22 degrees per side and it's like 36 thousandths behind the edge and that ends up basically being the cutting geometry of an axe. Making it just a poor cutter. The only reason the penguin is such a popular knife is because of a few popular youtubers heavily pushing it and it having a nice snappy action for the people that fidget with knives.... as a fidget toy it's a great, low cost knife BUT as a cutting tool... it's seriously lacking.
Yall need to test out the Kubey Nova, they are about 27 bucks on White mountain knives after discount if they are on sale. If they aren't on sale then they are 40. The Nova is a shockingly bad ass knife for the money. Another great Kubey for 27 on sale or 40 normal is the Drake. They are really fantastic knives.
It look like they dulled the blade before they even started testing it judging by the paper test. It went from shaving sharp, to unable to cut paper? How?
Good job! You should show an up close of the blade with the light before you test. Seems like this one had no chance, factory should have done a better job.
I have the QSP Penguin and QSP Parrot. I prefer the Parrot. Disappointed with the Penguin for all the same flaws shown in this video. Thank you for confirming my findings. Great job guys, keep up the good work.

You guys should test another sheepsfoot blade like the cold steel tuff lite
Added to the list!
God damn it. This is one of my favorite knife channels. YT needs to push this hard. You hear me @TH-cam no one cares for censorship

You want the toughest knife to torture? The Glock knife made from spring steel. Oh ya
How come y’all aren’t making vids anymore if you don’t mind me asking? Hope you both are doing well
Have you guys done the Vosteed Corgi? If not........

It couldn’t slice but it could slash, chop, and stab pretty good. Great slow mo replay, it looked like it buckled but hard to tell
The lock definitely gave out, it buckled, but these knives are not meant for such abuse, so still good for the price.
Please try the kizer gemini vanguard❤❤❤
Added to the list!
I love these torture tests. Did you guys try the Buck 840 Sprint Select? Would be interested to see that one.
Have u guys done the Kizer Amicus? If not...............
Added to the list!
I think the knife did well in toughness. It’s definitely a tuff knife just maybe not the best slicer
Those penguins are tough
Check out the new mini penguin 14C28N steel.
Awesome video

I like your thinkin!
are those jameson premaades any good? lol
Fantastic but better on ice. Its been a go to drink for the last few weeks of filming

Thank you for backing up the results! Always good to hear similar experiences
I feel the hype is more like yipe thanks even at 23 with points on Amazon its a pass 😮
i guess it was just a bad factory grind. but i have never been a Penguin fan. you can stone me for that ;-)
Guys better throw this knife in the garbage!!! I'm dissapointed of this knife dudes,it did't have sharp factory edge
or it's absolutely bullshit.
My factory edge is razor sharp.
