  • The internet is flooded with would be head porters showing how they port the SB Chevy Vortec heads. Most give very poor to even negative advice. Here race engine development engineer and university lecturer David Vizard gives you the low down of what does and dose not work with these already well developed heads. Here you get the real low down on porting these heads - all done with advanced flow bench testing.

    Great video, thank you for making this series, I really like running Vortec heads for the street and with a little more flow even better.
    Is there any chance that you will do a sbc 305 Vortec head porting series? The 305 Vortec with the smaller 58cc chambers is a whole lot different than the 350 Vortec heads, it would really be cool to see how to improve on those without messing them up.
    The smaller chambers in the 305 heads are closer to the older style chambers and there is a swirl ramp in the throat. The swirl ramp isn't as bad as the older swirl port heads, they actually flow very well for what they are, supposedly over 210 cfm from the intake side and it looks like they have better exhaust flow potential than its big brother when ported.
    Anyway thanks again for sharing your many years of experience and knowledge, looking forward to watching all the future videos you make, my favorite yt channel.

      Cut down the rocker stud bosses for guide plates and regular studs, tap rocker stud bosses, cut down valve guides for adequate lift, port work, valve job, flow testing, pressure testing casting integrity, milling decks clean, true, combustion chamber work before you buy new springs. easily wrap up $750-$1000 to pay for quality workmanship. Out of the box afr enforcer, or comparable is a real bargain, not prone to cracking, usually setup for hydraulic roller when ordered. And room to be ported later. We don't all own a flow bench, serdi valve job machines, or the tooling to mill the guides, rocker bosses etc.

    • @bcbloc02
      @bcbloc02 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@harrymiller3986 Well kind of Richard Holdener has shown that how an engine runs NA it does the same under boost so if an engine makes 500hp NA and you run 15psi to it which is double atmospheric it doubles the HP so it would make 1000hp. So the more power an engine will make NA the more power it will make under boost.

    I want to design my own head rather than just porting an existing one. The head I want to replace doesn't have much left on the table from the factory. If I design my own head I can put the ports and combustion chambers where I want them. I also want to change from inline valves to canted and rotated valves. I want to make an as cast head that doesn't need much to optimize the port flow.

    Hi David, just wanted to thank you for posting this video again in your rebooted channel. May I make a suggestion? As this is the rebooted channel and you are looking to rebuild your subscriber base, may I suggest you add something a little extra to your old videos to draw people back in to this channel instead of watching your old video in your old/new channel-or just continuing to make new episodes from where you left off? One update or bonus that you could throw into this video (like you did at the beginning of the video by mentioning this was one of your most popular videos) was perhaps adding the expected output like you did in your ford or ultimate porting video in the IOP program or Torque Master Program. There has to be something new or something more you can say about your old videos otherwise people would just watch the old channel. Don't get me wrong, this is literally one of the best videos and one of the first with very accurate Vortec porting information and that is why this video was so popular at the time and still racks up views today. And your follow up with the exhaust and comparison to the LS head was also amazing. Or maybe mention how this information supercedes the information in the your old How to Build Max Chevy Horsepower book-because I have a first edition (and 2nd edition) of that book from when I was first working on these heads and there was nothing in your old book about leaving that corner unported in the old book. I look back at those old pictures and that was something you must have learned later after publishing. But the bias in airflow at the end where you showed the port was in the book. But I digress. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Just trying to draw attention to the fact that if you just republish your old stuff, your new channel might not show it in the search bar because your old channel with the same videos has a larger subscriber base and longer history and will probably show up first before this newer channel with fewer subscribers (even though you started this channel before the other channel.) For example, if you search David Vizard Vortec you'll note your old PowerTec Channel comes up in all the search results and this channel is just buried because your subscriber count and probably a few other things that go into the algorithm aren't there yet.

    Larger than bore and can cause overhang and cause turbulance if you port to gasket size.
