*3:07** - "I kill you ALL!!!"* Tim Curry was so good in this performance. The most accurate Pennywise in the book, he's like a switch. One moment he's a friendly clown, the next he's a sadistic monster.
Even though I like the two "IT" films the mini series version remains my favourite...mainly because of Tim Currys brilliant and iconic portrayal of Pennywise.
Well, imo I will ALWAYS LOVE Tim Curry as Pennywise and as an actor in general no matter what and he NAILED this character back in the day. As for Bill Skarsgard, you can't really compare him to the original seeing he brought HIS OWN interpretation of the clown/alien creature and for this new generation he also did a PHENOMENAL job. But overall, Curry will be Pennywise the dancing clown to me (plus Tim's laugh was funnier and better in the original 😂🤷♀️)
This version may seem outdated but considering that Tim Curry didn't have the special effects or props to be as scary as Bill's Pennywise, he was scary just through performance alone - its definitely impressive!
Also what makes his performance work is the fact that he looks like a normal clown that seems approachable for kids. Bill's Pennywise doesn't look the least bit approachable & if any kid saw him they would immediately run away & shit themselves.
How harmless the old Pennywise look is what actually make it deadlier than the Bill Skarsgard version because people will sure run away from the Bill Version but people will sure think the Tim Curry version is a crazy old man with the clown makeup at first
Exactly. The new films tried too hard to be creepy. Any kid would run away from a scary looking clown talking like a demon in the sewer. Tim played it like a pro
@Lytral Love the news, hate the news, like the old, doesn't like the old. Everyone likes his Pennywise, you know. Not everyone can like the new one or the old one.
Yep, more special effects & modern technology. But the original pennywise scared me more overall. I do like the new pennywise's giant paul bunyan & when he was beth with the hair on fire though.
Tim Curry is the best pennywise. Notice how they didn't show anyone getting eaten but it was still scarier than the new It. This messed with me for a long time.
This isn't even remotely scary lmao it felt like a parody of the new version. Tim curry's pennywise isn't scary at all, he's funny. The new pennywise is funny once you've watched the movie once but he's funny in a creepy way. This pennywise isn't creepy at all.
@@elgoat1038Pfft hahahahahahahaha You're beyond amusing, highly uneducated casual who knows nothing of the Novel Book Stephen King's It. Bill Skarsgard was not terrifying, scary or creepy as Pennywise. Bill over force by trying to "act" scary, intimidating or creepy but failed miserably. I laughed at Bill Skarsgard's performance because he is nothing like Pennywise from the book. Read Stephen King's It, Novel Book, which I read. Tim Curry is the closest performance then any other actor could perform by bringing Pennywise from the Novel Book to "life" on screen. In the Novel It, Pennywise is not scary, creepy or by any means intimidating. He is described to look like mix of Ronald McDonald and Bozo The Clown who is charming, friendly and welcoming. It's to lure kids into thinking he is a good man. Just like in the real world, the majority of Serial Killers like Ted Bundy, Jeffery Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy and etc were friendly, charming, welcoming and nice, but just when you start to let your guard down, then you will see the real monster come to light. Tim Curry is The Best Pennywise on screen and Tim is what you call a True Grandmaster/S Class Actor. Bill Skarsgard is not even close to the level of Tim Curry as an actor. Read The Novel It and you will see Tim Curry as Pennywise The Dancing Clown is the best to ever act on screen. Its not close as a competition between both actors since Tim Curry centuries ahead of Bill Skarsgard.
i liked the two new movies but they just weren´t scary. the new pennywise already looked "scary", with him there was no sense of uncannyness if you knwo what i mean. Tim Curry´s version however had more character, more depths. The thing that made him creepy, and the whole miniseries as a whole, was that feeling that you weren´t exactly watching a horror movie. but the moment curry´s pennywise appeared you got this eery feeling, this sense of being played with, not just cheap jumpscares. watched the 2 movies once, but the miniseries over and over.
No horror character is scarier than Pennywise. For me (generation 1984), regardless of age, this is still a trauma. I know there are people like me out there who feel the same :-))
i love this version of pennywise. Makes him scarier im a more realistic kidnapper way. but i will say that backflip at 4:31 always has me cracking up laughin 😂😂😂
I love the 90s miniseries for what it represented truthfully from the novel (which is an incredible read) the same as the film adaptations. Tim Curry's portrayal as Pennywise I always remembered and even now is iconic, yet still admire how Bill Skarsgard played the part. Each exuded the tempting, taunting, avaricious and predatory aspects of the character wonderfully in their own ways. Some parts of the miniseries the films should have drawn upon though.
Considering the book has the girl sleep with all the guys in the group when they’re all underage kids tells me Stephen King belongs on a list with the people who thought “Cuties” was okay lol

I just watched both the miniseries and the new movies for the first time and honestly Tim Curry as Pennywise was scarier to me somehow?? Maybe because he looks more like a real clown and seems more harmless, well I always think clowns are scary but he just looks like the typical circus clown you know?
No other guy traumatized my childhood more than Tim Curry. Chucky, Jason, Freddy, he’ll even the Cenobytes never made me scared of the dark like Pennywise. I would literally beg my parents to turn on our hall lights so I could go to the bathroom lol. Dude made me scared of the dark for the first 5 years of my life!

Tim Curry will always be Pennywise. Bill Skarsgard's Pennywise wasn't luring to children, though his acting was good though. Pennywise is suppose to look like your typical friendly circus clown.
One of my favorite bands wrote a song called the killing kind and in it they have a line that says "we all float down here) and I thought it was pretty cool
Some things about the remake are good, but the clown make up works better here and I think Tim was overall a better Pennywise. The new one has a cool creepy clown design, but it doesn't work so much in the story, because the whole reason why he chooses the clown outfit is that he can lure kids. Tim's version is friendlier looking and it's supposed to be. That's why he looks like that so he can trick kids into thinking he's a silly funny clown and then he attacks.
Probably greatest made for TV movie ever. Tim Curry is epic. The remake was great too but i put them in different categories simiar to the way i do the Childs Play movies. Love the premise and the modern day twist(except Brad not doing chuckys voice) but nothing beats the originals.
Tim Curry was creepy as hell as Pennywise the Clown and I have this TV series on DVD and I can watch it over and over again. The new Stephen King IT is for the new generation and it was scary most of Stephen King's books are scary. Tim Curry also played Darkness in the 1985 fantasy flim Legend.

They leave out my favorite Pennywise moment, when he appears to Ben as the little girl he had a crush on and kisses him. You then see him morph into Pennywise. He looks in horror realizing he was kissing Pennywise. Pennywise makeup smeared yells "Kiss me fat boy".
Bozo the Clown was very popular when this was supposed to have taken place. In the book in the 60s he reads their minds and appearances to them as Bozo.
A reviewer once said about Tim Curry: "For every 1-star movie he's been in, he's the reason that movie got that star"
