What an incredible performance of some of the finest string music ever written. The Prelude and Nocturne induce goose-bumps for this listener. This could be one of your best uploads, Rodders....

Evening Max. With the upload only having received two 'likes', I wouldn't be sure...

Rodders, Evening....maybe Bridge's time still hasn't come, or, at least, British string music is classed as being too "pastoral" and not worthy of "serious" attention.

Morning Max. YT analytics tell me that there are far more subscribers here from the USA and continental Europe than from the UK. You, Dennis and a handful of others (who haven't been heard from for a while) would probably be the principal enjoyers of the British music. On the other hand, the Russian music attracts the most likes (and weird comments...)

Rodders, I suppose I could be a bit "parochial" myself....understandable as I'm in the UK and I still feel that, apart from RVW, Elgar, Britten and possibly Walton, much great British music doesn't make international strides. Austro-Germanic and Russian traditions still rule the world....

@@RoddersClassical I'm British (still) but haven't set foot in Brexitville since 1993. I love music from wherever but I have to to say that global as music may be, Americans (USA) are as bad as anyone else when it comes to lack of interest in the local product - and by the local proiduct I don't mean Hindemith, Schoenberg, Tiomkin etc but the likes of Barber, Menotti, Piston, Riegger, Sessions, V Thomson, R Thompson, etc. Just Gershwin and perhaps Ives. Do that many care for the music of, for example Copland or that MAGNIFICENT composer Roy Harris.
Some do. Some Brits like Alwyn, Bridge, Fricker, Gurney, Stanford, etc. Not many though, it would seem.

I love this. Bridge is a seriously under-rated composer whose work deserves more attention and performances. Until the BBC NOW recordings (under Hickox), only a handful of releases on Lyrita and HMV existed. If a genius like Britten, with his Bridge Variations, can recognise the importance and quality of Bridge's compositions, then surely his work should get more performances in the concert hall. Sadly, even in this more enlightened and musically adventurous age, the concert-going public seem only to react to the symphonies and concertos of Brahms, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov (which is not to belittle those works in any way). Money talks.... adventurous concert hall programming walks!
