Well, I just received the Whitcomb diesel today , and I have to say THAT IT IS A PIECE OF GARBAGE! THE DCC ENGINE SOUNDS DO NOT WORK. WHEN I CLICK ON EITHER F1 OR F2 (ENGINE 1 OR ENGINE 2 RESPECTIVELY) THE ENGINE SOUNDS START UP FOR A MOMENT, AND THEN SHUT DOWN. YOUR INSTRUCTIONS, IF YOU CAN CALL THEM THAT, MAKE NO MENTION OF THIS PROBLEM WITH THE MODEL. AT THIS POINT IN TIME I WILL PROBABLY NEVER BUY ANOTHER PIKO GARBAGE TRAIN EVER AGAIN!
@@adaribros This decoder is made by Piko and has their own protocols. The prime mover sounds (engines one and two) are started with F1 and F2 respectively. F3, F4, and F5 are different horns, F6 is the bell, F7 is switching gear(?), F8 is the cab light, etc. Jonathan at Piko contacted me and said to change CV250 to a value of 1 (default is 0). This would keep the prime mover sounds running, which it does. He said that older DCC don't keep sending the command signals to the decoders, which is why the prime mover sound shuts off (I say B.S.), but I tried, and it does correct the problem, partially. Now while the prime mover sounds stay on, they don't respond properly to throttle settings. As I increase the speed of the loco, the prime movers don't rev up right away, and when they finally do rev up, they go back to idle once I reach the speed I want. So as a fix (not a cheap one) I replaced the garbage Piko decoder with a ESU LokSound5 PLUX22 decoder, programmed to a GE 44 Tonner dual Caterpillar sound, which is close to the Whitcomb sound. I remapped some functions so I have all of the lights (headlights, markers, cab, and number boards), plus normal bell and horn sounds, and F8 is startup.
That Whitcomb diesel is beautiful. I can't wait to see Piko's future American prototype locomotives.
Nice to see you back! it would be interesting to have this sound kit available for non sound 25T locos !.
I just orders that one im looking foreward to getting it its nice to see an actual quality product
Just one of the 65 ton in N scale on Friday I'm impressed enough to where I'll grab another one before Christmas.
I would love to See the Oriënt expres on g scala by piko?

Have you used F8 to turn the prime mover on?

I just got one of these and have the same issue. Thank you for posting about changing CV 250 to 1! Overall I do like the locomotive.
