    Here is the mystery solved:
Christina is NATURALLY a light lyric Soprano.
However, she purposely changes her voice to a heavier chesty sound. She would rather belt an Eb5 from chest instead of mixing. Plus She adds techniques like rasp, growls, distortion, etc.
She is a vocal chameleon. This is why she is so confusing to people and why she can be inconsistent at times. Sometimes what she does is brilliant and other times it's a mess.
It's like ever year I hear people saying "she's lost her voice" and then "she is in a new prime!" LOL
Her last masterclass video where she sings at last two different ways is a good example of this...

@@girlbrittneygirlI agree, and this is why I disagree with rigidly applying opera terms to popstars. With that said, her natural voice seems soprano-like, but she forces her voice to be something it isn’t naturally. Which seems to be why many claim she’s a “mezzo”.

Exactly!! But I think Xtina chooses to belt Eb5 from chest because she's not good at mixing her voice, and it is easy for her to have the pitch and tone problems (she hardly makes chest tone and mixing tone into the same texture).
But I do feel that the early version of her voice sounds more pop and unique than the current version.

Yes but there are other markings to a soprano voice, the most notable being their absolute comfort singing from Eb5-F#5 with EASE and stamina, accompanied by a girly, lighter tone. None which CA possesses. She peaks at Eb5 and can never really phrase in that region without strain. Which is no coincidence given that 1) she admitted to not being able to mix well 2) that a mezzo needs to mix at Eb5 (their second passaggio) if they want to reach 5th octave notes with better dexterity.
CA was (given that vocal fachs do not change - ever - just how your skin color never changes) and is a mezzo soprano and there is nothing wrong with that

In my point of view: (google translator)
His bass region evolved incredibly well and all notes are better, with more confidence and better emission.
From A4 to D5 it emits sometimes with a certain difficulty compared to before, sometimes more easily, but in my view its emission technique has improved considerably.
From Eb5 things get more difficult for her, but she still manages to reach the E5 intentionally even though she avoids it at all costs, the problem is in the strength and distortion that she often puts in her voice, in addition to air column that she breaks many times that tilts the body, and the fact that she just doesn't like mixing notes, even though she has done it many times in casual conversations.
It is very likely that with some training she will be able to emit notes between Eb5(more easily) to F # 5 and maybe G5 if she gives up a little of that sound that she always liked to make and try to emit the notes in a healthier way.
However her vocal apparatus is still there intact, today she has much more resources in her voice, she is more aware of what she can and what she cannot do within what she limited herself, she has a much more refined musical perception.
Not to mention her timbre that she has enriched herself even more and I particularly prefer him much more these days, despite the fact that she sacrificed part of her high notes to do this. She hasn't lost her voice, she just has different resources now.
And most importantly: she is happy singing like that and making the songs the way she likes.

      @chocolateangel8743 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I think part of it has to do with the fact she has always tried to imitate black women and used poor technique to try to achieve this. Case and point, there is a clip on Christina singing with Jennifer Hudson (Soprano) -- before her voice began to improve and gospel singer Yolanda Adams (strong Mezzo-Soprano with great technique). Both were easily able to belt over Christina.
If Christina were to sing with Jennifer today, she couldn't keep up. Jennifer belts and sustains G5 - C6's like they are nothing. When she was out promoting the Aretha Franklin movie, there was one late-night performance, where she hit and sustained 3 (C6's).

@@chocolateangel8743 I think she's influenced by black female singers (that's who all her idols are), but I don't think she's tried to imitate them. Christina sounds like herself, and I don't think anyone would mistake her voice for that of a black woman.
Christina's voice is naturally smaller than both Jhud and Yolanda, and they have different tessituras. I don't think it's fair to say that singing higher notes means singing better. Whitney herself couldn't sing as high as Patti Labelle or Ariana, but that reflects nothing about how well they sang. Christina more than held her own during the Aretha tribute, and I don't think being the loudest voice counts as 'winning'. It's about what you do with what you have.

In my point of view, she remains soprano, however, because she uses more tension in the vocal folds than is normally used, the difficulty in reaching notes like E5 / F5 increases because they are notes that require a relaxation of the folds for that, except that mezzo sopranos opera singers find it easy to reach the notes in the head voice as she can, an example is Beyoncé who is a wonderful singer (Mezzo) and who rarely goes from C # 6 in a head voice and looks like she has a technique considered PERFECT. With Xtina I see that she prefers to stay in this zone between Eb3- Eb5 so as not to jeopardize the live shows, so much so that in the studio she reaches notes like E5 and F5 (I know there are many devices to help with this) but we know that it is the xtina that does not use autotune, I believe it’s more a matter of not sounding so shouted and sickening and that’s why she doesn’t use these notes so often, but that she’s capable, she’s, in the Whitney tribute we saw this, outside that there are reports of people saying that she recorded the performance 3 times so that everything would be perfect.

Her technique is questionable. :/ She has this raspy sound in her voice but I think it's caused by vocal damage. Anyhow, I totally understand why people mistake her for being a Light-Lyric Soprano in her younger days. Because she had a brighter and lighter sound. But it's the tessitura that matters. She always sang in Mezzo Range and sometimes went for high Falsetto notes. Which were impressive but definitely not her comfort range.

Applying opera terms to popstars is rather useless. Christina isn’t an opera star or even a classical crossover singer. That said, IMO, she’s a soprano who forces herself to sound more heavier/darker than she really is.
Celine claimed she was a mezzo until an opera conductor said she didn’t sound like one.

@dededejereme2284 None of the 3 were near Mezzos, not especially Celine. In fact, out of the three, Celine has the warmest and highest voicd. Houston has just a better technique in engaging in upper belts, and Xtina isn't good at that completely.

Im very sure she had the vocal range of a soprano (now mezzo). But is really hard to know since her style of singing is push her chest as high as possible. There is no a proper mixing at all, we'll never know how high she is capable of belt (we know she can go as low as an B2 and consistently a D3).
Her speaking voice, her light tone (when she is not lowering her larynx or using tongue tension) and her super high falsetto is a proof of something at least.
Also there are some other videos where she is more "relaxed" and hit some e5/f5 with ease.
BTW, after years of damaging vocal technique, is safe to say that her vocal range used to be huge since she is still capable of hitting eb5 and e5 without a good mixing.

Nope. Her voice has always had a rather bright timbre, she darkens it artificially by lowering her larynx etc. Her tone is actually bright and full and her tessitura is of a (maybe lower?) soprano. So she does have a lyrical voice. Lyric voices aren't always mellow, small and super agile like Ariana's (who is an extremely high and light soprano) lyric voices are supposed to sound full, warm and sometimes big

She was never a light lyric soprano nor a soprano to begin with. Your vocal fach is the same from the moment you end puberty (which is around 16 for women) to the day you die. What changes is your technique and your vocal folds age with time. But a soprano will remain a soprano, even if she is 90 and a mezzo will remain a mezzo even if she is 90. Christina aguilera has never shown soprano feats (consistent, comfortable singing around E5-F#5, light girly tone, stamina in the 5th octave) and her money notes are around Eb5 - the second passaggio for a lyric mezzo soprano. And typically she struggles after B4. B4-Eb5 is childsplay to a soprano but is the passagio range for a Mezzo. Want a light lyric? Look at Arianna Grande, Sandi Patti, Minnie Ripperton, Leona Lewis... Christina Aguilera is a LYRIC MEZZO SOPRANO
