    I saw Marjorie Judith Vincent as a journalist and reporting the news years later.

    I think I was watching that night. I even asked my mother, "Why was she crying?"

    It was very appropriate for Burt Parks serenade Miss America 1991 because it was the pageant’s 70th anniversary.

      Indeed! no will ever sing that song as Bert Parks does.

      @@dianeverytall3397 Copy that. In case you would like to know, Mr. Parks was not the first to sing the song--before Lee Ann Meriwether passed the title on to Sharon Kay Ritchie, Miss America 1956, Lee Ann Meriwether appeared in a television special called 'The MIss America Story'. It was in that special that Johnny Desmond sang what would become the iconic song for the pageant.

      I am old enough to remember all the controversy he created with his comment before the pageant.

    The woman speaking from 5:18 to 5:23, resembles Vanna White, from "Wheel of Fortune."

    Was this the first black to black crowning?

    • @Juliaflo
      @Juliaflo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes--the next one was Erika Harold (2003) crowning Ericka Dunlap (2004).

      It was a big deal too. Even in the 70s and 80s black contestants would be targeted by hate groups, so it was like a huge F U to them. I hope the current pageant orgs can do the same with their current issues, like constantly being pressured to make it body positivity exclusive and not have any competitions that emphasize any sort of physical intelligence.
