To comment on the tune itself - I really like that they’re just happy to put themselves out there. Something so proggy but still fun - all the instrumentals get to show off a bit and there’s a cool surprise when you get to the live 🤩

I don’t need a shout out, but I imagine most GS fans who watch reactions would work it out anyway 🤣
I understand the decision to just do the studio versions through, especially as there’s 15 tracks, but I would obviously recommend all the live versions that are available for later!
Not sure if you did the whole album yet, but as you heard Halfway beyond already maybe you could do the live one instead.
Speed Game live is so so good. Glad you really enjoyed the start to the album and I could see that it would fit on Ace, but the album jumps around a lot so it’ll be interesting to see what you think of each one.

I agree that the live versions are worth watching, but I rather recommend listening to both, cause sometimes the chord progressions are not really obvious on the live ones, so the studio audio would be nice for orientation purposes ;)
I love the live version of speed game, but the studio version more or less confirms, that they both (Tomo-Zo and Hana) messed up their guitar leads, which kills me. otoh the groove and focus of the song are better live. I guess, you can't have it all haha.

I thought you included instructions for the reactions in the package 😆
Where’s my Gacharic Spin live version? 🤷🏻‍♂️😄

Also thank you for the DOLL$BOXX “Merrily High Go Round” live video request on David Heretic channel 👌🏻

No worries everyone, I am aware and am planning to check out lives afterwards. Will also talk about it in one of the later reactions, but just let me know which ones you wanna see ;)
(Also I did plan on recording it in 2 sessions because it has so many tracks, but I couldn't stop lol. Recorded the whole thing yesterday evening and already listened to it 3 times by now, but that's all I will say ;)

I love the live version of this. I think I wrote "instant favourite" on it. The studio version is a bit too electronic for me, but it's still very good. The album as a whole I need to listen to a few more times. At the moment my review would be lukewarm, but this is after loving every song on both W and Ace, so that's okay.

    • @react-o-mat

Definately has a different vibe than W and Ace! (Won't get into any album thoughts for now not to spoiler my reactions too much ;)
I personally really like the electronic-ness of this one, but I'll check out the live version too (later :P)

It just seems, that they thought, what the hell, since the concept of an album is mostly irrelevant in 2024, let's just start with a crazy instrumental and take it from there :)
The modulations during the middle part and the omission of an ongoing beat whilst everybody is just throwing little parts into the hat makes the song seem chaotic. That will go away after a few listens, but since most reactors stick with the "first listen"-reactions, GS will mostly leave them shaking their heads after the first run ...
Love your reactions and it took me quite a while to unpack the poster as well LOL
    cheers :)

Very true, it doesn't hit as strong on follow up listens, but I still love it :)
About the album concept, in my opinion it's kind of a cheat, because if you look at the artwork and the concept of such a feast, there will be all kinds of wild stuff thrown in, which doesn't necessarily belong together.
This song feels to me like the table is getting set up and all the different foods are brought in (+there's also S-w-e-e-t at the end which is kind of the dessert.
Maybe I'm interpreting way too much here, but in short I think there is a concept, but the concept is just 'everything' xD

I like this idea. For me it’s just presenting everything they’ve been over the life of the band, which probably adds up to about the same thing! 🤣

@@react-o-mat Agree that they put a lot of thought into the album "concept". I was just talking about the "technical" structure, like the opening song has to be an uptempo rocker, then the second or third song will be the single, if it's not the opener. Stuff like that is not really relevant anymore ... The first single is the last song of the album (Halfway and beyond).

It keeps removing my comment for some reason. Not sure why, I don't feel like battling the crappy yt bots right now.
tldr: Love this track, not sold on the album yet and it has an irritating thing where some tracks are almost twice as loud as others which might be worse because of the way I process converted tracks. I prefer all their other release since their selftitled or maybe even Gold Dash at the moment, but that might change over time. I do like it way more than Band-Maid's new album (because of overproduction) which is one of my least favourite Band-Maid albums at this time. I can certainly see Feast pass Gold Dash and their selftitled (selftitled will be difficult though, it has some of my favourite GS tracks).

Sorry for your troubles leaving a comment...
I didn't notice that volume difference like you, I think I never changed anything while listening to the whole album, but I only listened to the YT uploads so maybe it's different on the CD?
I don't wanna say too much about my album thoughts right now, not to spoiler my videos, but I'll at least tell you that I'm a lot more positive about Feast than you. I also really like Epic Narritives though 😅
Maybe I just don't notice all that production that much in general. I remember talking to Howard (BakaBroadcast/Ears to the East) about a Shingeki song I really like once and he was extremely appalled by the production and was asking me if I cannot hear that aweful compression, which tbh I never could lol 😂

@@react-o-mat It's good that you don't easily have issues with production, most people don't have that. It would make listening to music a lot easier for me. It honestly got worse after watching a lot of reactors, but it is what it is. Watching reactors also gave my enjoyment of music in general a big push as well, so it's an overall net positive.
My main gripe with the Band-Maid album is the vocal production (surprise). Saiki's vocal timbre is what got me to keep listening to Band-Maid originally and they basically produced it so hard on some points of some songs that I don't even recognize if it's Saiki or Miku who is singing. That type of production is my major gripe with a lot of Japanese bands so it's a difficult one to look past. I only gave it one proper listen though, I am sure I will get used to it more but I hardly listened to the Unleash EP as well, so who knows. The whole stuff with them striking channels also didn't help with this, which isn't fair but it is what it is.
The volume difference on the Gacharic Spin album is more annoyance than a big deal (and I have an album by Prefuse 73 that has this way worse), but it's a shame that it is like this. That said, I use albumgain on all my albums so they are about the same volume when I listen to them back to back and it's possible that makes the difference bigger than it is (but it is about 3 db between the loudest and quietest track, which is double or half as loud).
I am really looking forward to your reactions of the album though because I generally get more appreciation for the albums by watching you go through them, especially if you enjoy them more than I do. Maybe I should bite the bullet and check out your Epic Narratives reactions as well. I held off because I was afraid I couldn't hold back on the comment section.
Edit: Also talking about compression. Oranssi Pazuzu also released an album a couple of days ago, they are a Psychedelic Black Metal band from Finland that I have loved for over 10 years (and are one of the few bands I kept listening to every once in a while while discovering Japanese rock/metal). The new album has a LOT of compression on it, but it doesn't bother me with that one because it fits the music style, black metal is typically pretty compressed. That is the main difference for me personally. I think it works for some music, but if the instrumentalists are very technical and very talented it detracts from what they are playing. The new Oranssi Pazuzu album is even less black metal than their last output and is very electronic almost dark ambient at points so it works really well with the more electronic production/compression (just as a warning, it's still not easy listening music).
