      Same thought when I heard that dumb line. They are just opposing the side not merely thinking that single parents or other na nag aalaga sa mga bata for example nawalan ng father figure or even iniwan ng magulang so in that case they should not focus the idea of not duplicating sa pagiging guardian ng bata, kasi lahat pwedeng mag-alaga regardless of what gender.

      both straight and non-straight people can obviously tell if a person is homophobic. so why can't heterosexual people judge if an individual is homophobic and a non-straight person can?

    @storiesofaries1415 2 ปีที่แล้ว +832

    This must have been hard to hear for the gay student during this time period. Hearing people debate if you ever deserve your rights is absolutely nerve wrecking. Here are my stands for this.
    1. Homosexuality was actually observed within 1,500 species yet homophobia occurs only in one-humans. To say that same sex marriage is against nature is very contradicting to what nature is actually showing. Nature itself displays homosexual behavior.
    2. Many ancient nations, including pre-colonial Philippines, was actually supportive of gay and queer people where many cultures depict third and other genders. In pre-colonial Philippines, effeminate men are respected and treated equally like any other citizens. Some of them are priests, called Asogs/Bayoguin, which are male babaylans who dress with female garb, marry other men, have carnal knowledge, and act as women. Ancient Greece, Rome, Japan, and other ancient civilizations are observed with homosexual practices as well. It was until these nations were westernized and turned these culture as somehow bad and demonic.
    3. Without the right to marry, same sex couples can't have the right to sue and make medical decision for their partners as well. Hypothetically, if their partners were killed/diagnosed they can't make decisions for them! It'll be hard because they cant give their partners justice or they might just watch their partners die in front of them.
    4. It just triggers me hearing them say "You can't make a moral wrong a civil right." How do you define moral? If that moral excludes people and develops micro aggressions, I think its not. Is it moral when someone dies without further justice just because no one can make decisions for them? Is it still moral? I question your morals then.
    5. Now, family. To say that a same sex family can't provide the needs of child is utterly wrong. How can you say so? Have you seen one, been in one? Same sex couples can actually help the children in orphanages, which heterosexual couples abandoned. I think, same sex couples can even give more love for they would never want their children grown up the way they grow up. Philippines is not a gay friendly country! Check your prejudices and biases.
    6. The opposition stated that state and church sould be separated but they kept on leaning on the ideas of the church. That is religious bias. You cant tell someone how to live just because of your religion. Para mo na ring sinabing bawal silang kumain dahil nagdyedyeta ka. Sounds stupid, right?
    Queer people have been waiting for this to pass. Change is constant and our country needs to change. Philippines would be more progressive if ever same sex marriage would pass. Lets be open minded. The LGBTQ+ people are here, the exist, they are humans, and they deserve their rights.

      Agree. I don't understand some religious or conservatives when they were saying gay people only know sex while implying straight people know love. I mean most criminals convicted of rape, sexual harassment, child marriage, grooming, and prostitution are straight men but we cannot generalize straight men even though they dominate the prison.
      If all gay people are only for sex, then we would not have fought for same-sex marriage since it's legal here to have consensual gay sex to anyone. Yet, I know most gay relationships outlast straight relationships. Now they are willing to build a family yet the state law doesn't allow it that's why we need legalization.

      Jay-Ar Marcial: Where did laws for the Philippines originate from? Originally, about 7,000 years ago, they came from God, our Heavenly Father. It started with the "10 Commandments" and grew from there for Westernized Judeo-Christian nations (of which the Philippines is one of them). Islam, a corrupted form of Judaism, also had its laws originate from Judaism (from a perverted rich merchant, a sexually deviant, a child molester and rapist, a warrior against non-Muslims, and a slave owner known as Muhammad).
      Therefore a debate should not limit itself to only legality. A debater can speak whatever he wishes in order to get his point across. If mentioning Bible verses is needed for the debate, so be it.

    I'm so proud of this comment section. This proves that our society is improving in terms of critical thinking. I expected the comment section to be filled with religious accounts which are fallacious arguments. Keep it up Pilipens... P.S. Natawa ako sa procreation na part XD. Hindi naman sa needed natin ang population control but bruh, implementation of gay marriage doesn't necessarily result in population decline... And a lot of irresponsible citizens are actually partaking in your so-called "pro-creation" and ends up having their babies abandoned or aborted. The gay community can help these unprepared parents to foster their child in the most legitimate way. Can't you see how objectively beneficial we are in the community? And please to someone homophobic reading this, erase your prejudice towards our competence in raising children, because as far as I am concerned, gay couples plan ahead of time when building a family cause it's a very big deal to them. This trait is rarely seen on straight couples nowadays.

    • @rapid123ful
      @rapid123ful 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Same sex relationship is different from same sex marriage. If the purpose of marriage is to unite two lovers and raise children, then same sex couples don't give their children the privilege to grow in a moral environment.

      @calambuhayjr.josevirgiliog2094 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@rapid123ful I'm not quite sure whether this argument is pro or anti.
      Pro: same sex couples don't give their children the privilege to grow in a moral environment because they are not legally married? therefore we really must implement gay marriage; or
      Con: same sex couples don't give their children the privilege to grow in a moral environment because their relationship does offend your "archaic spiritual beliefs".
      Either way, concluding that "same sex couples don't give their children the privilege to grow in a moral environment" is a hasty generalization since there is no objective ways of measuring a moral environment and kids morality. As far as observation goes, Kids born with same-sex parents are more tolerant and less degrading/discriminating to their fellow citizens because they themselves are subject to such humiliations.

    Same Sex Marriage not only breaks the stigma but also ratifies the union of the same sex couple. Marriage are usually evidence unions of couple to legalize their relationship and avail the perks and restrictions of law when involved in one. One example is conjugal property, when people get married the properties they bear or have will be shared between them. Also, when it comes to tax optimization wedded couples may list their partner as a dependent. Those are perks of hetero couples that cannot be available to same sex couple because the law prohibits them. Laws are supposed to protect its people and promote equal and general welfare that's why amendments can be made and we have our senate, the government in general to ratify that. Philippines has been colonized by Spaniards and their damage to our society is extremely observable. Same sex marriage does not compromise your religion, men and women can still be married. And do not use the law as the definite reason to prove your standpoint because laws can be amended and adjusted to people. Addition, the law implicitly allows a person to kill their cheating partner when caught in act. Moral wrong cannot be a civil right, remember?

    Yes. First, rules/laws shouldn't remain consistent because we live in changing times. What may be applicable in the past may not be applicable at present. For example, punishment during the ancient times were "barbaric," unlike today. Now we don't want that do we?
    Second, as we are informed our consciousness of social constructs also changes. Thus, we are led to the changing definitions of ideas like "family" and what constitute it. Typically, we are made to think that a family is composed of a mother, a father, and their child/children. However, that's a shallow definition of the idea of family since we have single parents and couples who can't bare any children.

    I have no stance towards this subject because I believe that this has both pros and cons depending on the situation. Like let’s say for example, if the goal of the two individuals regarding their marriage is all about making a commitment and celebrating the frutition of their love, then I personally don’t see anything wrong about that. But if they are planning to raise a child, well I can’t help but be skeptical. Concerning this issue, we also have to look at the perspective of the child as well.
    For instance; if two gay parents will raise a child, one of the possible outcomes might be is that the child would lack the maternal love that they need during their childhood developmental years. The reason why so is because mothers have a crucial role towards their child’s development and these roles are due to biological reasons; such are infants and toddlers prefer their mothers over their fathers when seeking comfort from hunger, fear, sickness, or other sorts of affliction. And if they are deprived from maternal love, then it would lead to repercussions such as exhibiting hostile or antisocial tendencies and other long term emotional, social, and cognitive complications. Same goes if the child lacks paternal love because the father’s presence gives the child a sense of security, be it emotional or physical.
    But here’s where the cognitive dissonance begins; not all mothers and fathers can consistently illustrate those attributes that were previously mentioned above, like some parents are abusive and apathetic to their children. And so to conclude, I think that this subject is wholly depended upon the circumstances.

      @rainb5987 ปีที่แล้ว

      DSWD has its ways to regulate the adoption process and ensure the best interest of the children is paramount. In fact, DSWD already issued a statement that a single LGBT individual can adopt like any single person can do. Our adoption law does not contain any prohibition on the basis of sexual orientation.
      There is another thing called joint adoption wherein both two parents can be the legal adoptive parents. But one of the requirements of joint adoption is marriage license. Clearly, a committed same-sex partner cannot jointly adopt because they can't marry each other because of the family code. Therefore, they are forced to choose who among them should be the single adoptive parent.
      If legal adoption is allowed for a single LGBT individual, why can't they avail joint adoption. We know two heads are better than one so practically a gay couple is better than a single gay person on average.

    Gay Marriage ay hindi pribilehiyo, pangunahing kaalaman ito sa karapatang pantao. Bakit ang pag-aasawa ng parehong kasarian ay nakakaabala sa iyo? Hindi ito isang tradisyonal na kasal, ito ay isang kasal sa sibil. PRIVILEGE IS WHEN A RELIGIOUS ESTABLISHMENT AREN'T PAYING TAXES like chur- opps ☺️.
    Ang relihiyon ay hindi dapat nasa politika, ang relihiyon ay dapat tratuhin bilang personal agenda hindi isang global conquest. Dictating how other people should live their live is wrong and unreasonable. This is inhumane.
    Also they're putting social stigma and degrading people who's under the gender spectrum, treating community like a second class citizen because of how they we're taught to be one. LGBTQ+ are people just like us, trying to live a normal life so would you take that away?
    Theological opinions are not "factual" they do NOT hold any value to truth, that is theists own truth that was thought to their religion. Whatever "according to the bible" drafts they have, in a logical and reasonable discussion, it shouldn't be use as a debate.
    Social hierarchy and patriarchy has always been on people for ages, treating people differently for not being on the same page, and it's infuriating. The complexity of gender spectrum has been found on hundreds of animals but homophobia can only be found on one species, us.
    That is why I leave religion, it teaches us to hate others and to be ignorant to other cultures and practices. Let's just say hell is real, I'd rather be burning than to be with Christian bigots.
    Kids aren't supposed to taught by their parents or instructors how to normalize hate crime, saying that "you're going to hell for that", "God will decide" or "I'm saving you" is a holy way of saying I hate f*g**ts.

      2. Ang labis na pagmamataas at paghihimagsik ng kasamaan sa ibabaw ng lupa, tulad ng nangyari kay Fer'awn, Namroud, atbp.
      3. Ang pandaraya sa pangangalakal, tulad ng nangyari sa pamayanan ni Shu'aib (as).
      4. Ang Homosexual o pakikipagtalik sa parehong kasarian, tulad ng nangyari sa pamayanan ni Propeta Lut (as).
      5. Ang pagiging pabaya sa katotohanan at hindi pagbabawal ng kamalian, tulad ng nangyari sa isang bayan ng mga Hudyo na naging mga unggoy at baboy.
      6. Ang hindi makatarungang pagpapatupad ng batas.
      Sinabi ng Propeta (saw): "Isa sa mga dahilan ng pagkawasak ng mga sinauna ay kapag nagnakaw ang taong may kakayahan ay hindi pinaparusahan, at kapag ang mahina ang nagnakaw ay kanilang pinaparusahan." [Bukhari at Muslim].
      7. Ang pagiging maramot.
      Sinabi ng Propeta (saw): "Iwasan ninyo ang pagiging maramot, sapagkat isa ito sa mga dahilan ng pagkawasak ng mga sinauna." [Muslim, Abu Daud, at Imam Ahmad].
      8. Ang pagtatanong at paghiling ng mga walang kabuluhang kahilingan o katanungan.
      9. Ang hindi pagsunod sa utos ng Propeta (as), at pakikipagtalo sa taong nagpapalaganap ng katotohanan.
      Sinabi ng Propeta (saw): "Katotohanang isa sa mga dahilan ng pagkawasak ng mga sinauna ay ang mga katanungan at kahilingang walang saysay, at ang kanilang pakikipagtalo sa mga Propeta, kaya kapag ako'y nag-utos sa inyo ay sundin na lamang inyo sa abot ng inyong makakaya, at kapag may ipinagbawal sa inyo ay inyong iwasan." [Bukhari at Muslim].
      10. Ang "Ghuloww" o pagmamalabis at panunubra sa pananampalataya at mga gawaing may kinalaman sa Relihiyon, tulad ng pag-gawa ng anumang uri ng Bid'ah.
      Sinabi ng Propeta (saw): "Iwasan ninyo ang Ghuloww, sapagkat ito ang naging dahilan ng pagkawasak ng mga sinauna." [An-Nasaie, Ibn Majah, at Imam Ahmad].
      11. Ang pakikipag kompetensya at labis na pagkahumaling sa mga makamundong bagay.
      Sinabi ng Propeta (saw): "Hindi ang kahirapan ang kinatatakutan ko para sa inyo, ang kinatatakutan ko para sa inyo ay ang mabuksan sa inyo ang (lahat ng paraan upang makamtan ang) karangyaan sa mundong ito, at mag-unahan kayo rito tulad ng ginawa ng mga sinauna, at kayo ay mawasak tulad ng kanilang pagkawasak." [Bukhari at Muslim].
      12. Ang paglaganap ng lantarang paggawa ng kasalanan.
      Sinabi ng Propeta (saw): "Kapag naging lantad sa Ummah na ito ang paggawa ng kasalanan ay pupuksain silang lahat ng Allah sa pamamagitang ng matinding parusa." [Imam Ahmad].
      At siya ay tinanong: O Sugo ng Allah; kami ba ay mawawasak kahit na may mabubuting tao? At kanyang sinabi: "Oo, kapag dumami (lumaganap) ang paggawa ng karumaldumal." [Bukhari at Muslim].

    If you come up with reasons on why same sex marriage should not be prohibited or should not be allowed and if you look deeper in those reasons it's completely nonesense. I am a Christian myself and based of my already knowledge The Bible did not say anything specific on why same sex marriage should not be allowed. Just because the Bible only mentioned straight affection does not mean it's a sin. It is the people who are toxic enough to prohibit love from the same sex. It is not their fault that they like their same sex.

    1. Bible verses shouldn't be used in debates unless the topic is related to religion.
    2. Using the Family Code as a basis is somewhat pointless since the discussion is centered on amending the same law.
    3. One of the reasons why marriage between "first-degree cousins" is prohibited is due to the risk of abnormalities and early death in their future offspring. So, no, it is not the same as same-sex marriage.
    4. Marriage is not solely about procreation.
    5. Marriage does not have its origins in religion.
    6. The purpose of same-sex marriage is not solely for the "personal gratification of the individuals." Married people enjoy privileges that are not available to unmarried couples. (e.g. intestate succession)
    7. Morality is subjective.

Kaya nga eh may mga orphans sa pilipinas na na adopt by families and kahit na di mag ka dugo, basta alagaan mo dahil mahal mo at ipalaki mo ng mabuti, and with that you are considered as a parent. Personally, I think religion or religious beliefs shouldn't be brought when it comes to debates like this one. I also don't see the essence of not approving with the Same Sex Marriage since it cannot harm other people. That's true that marriage is sacred and divine but as pointed by the debater, a "secular marriage" can be imposed wherein it doesn't need to go with the belief of religious institutions. It is stated in the 1987 Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines that the government and religion are two different entities wherein government decisions don't need to respect religious beliefs so why isn't the government implementing and/or imposing the legalization of same sex marriage? Also, everything changes. Yes I mean EVERYTHING. If the definition of marriage is the union between male and female, that was before. Now is the new era, I believe that marriage should be defined as "the union between two people regardless of their race, age, and absolutely their gender/sex". Let us not limit ourselves with a single information because change is constant. We are a "Catholic Country" that's true but we are not a "Catholic Nation". Let us not sit on the OLD mindset when in fact we are the NEW generation. Kudos to the PRO'S ❤️❤️🌈

    The question about whether allowing same sex marriage affects the children or not. The answer of the opposing side is it not a misogynist mindset?? Thinking that a women can never/only imitate the role of a “father” within a relationship between a man and a woman.
    Lastly, when the side that is for same sex marriage states that unions/marriages date back to even before religion and the opposing side changed her words (they said that even before religion, marriages were by a man and a woman when in fact she didn’t mention anything about gender and only stated that a union of two people,
    All I can say is that from this debate, we just move in trying to promote same sex marriage and just advocate and appeal for civil unions that has all the rights of a married man and woman while still not being a marriage since they wouldn’t understand and listen to what we are saying.

    Pero Hindi ba mas uunlad ang bansa pag napatupad ang same sex marriage? Mas marami ang Pros kasya sa cons? Pag napatupad same sex marriage, magkakaroon ng pag unlad sa ekonimya ng pilipinas, mas madadagdagan ang employment na magccater sa mga taong magpapakasal na lgbtq, tulad ng mga Doctor and lawyers, pag nangyari yun maiiwasan ang brain drain ng pinas, at pag napatupad toh pwede rin mawala maibsan ang poverty sa paraan ng pag adopt ng mga lgbtq couples sa mga batang walang magulang o di Lang kayang arugain ng magulang, also it would fix our overpopulation problem which is one of the main sources of poverty other than teen pregnancy, totoong sacrilegious ang kasal which is based on and influenced by Christian law, Kung ganon pwedeng isang Union nalang ng 2 Tao dahil ang iba Lang naman is pag kinasal ka sa simbahan you are joined together in the eyes of church, at Kung sa government ang paraan ng pagkasal, kasal kayo sa mata ng gobyerno, ang problema dito is Heterosexual couples have the option of being able to get married with the approval of the state and the church while LGBTQ only gets the approval of state which still equates this problem to discrimination. Sa tingin ko po maayos lng po ang problema na toh pag iniba o binago ng church or people's beliefs ang kanilang mga pananaw and laws.

    Further to this, same-sex practice is specifically highlighted as sinful a number of times in Scripture. In God’s Law, for example, condemnations of same-sex practice are given in Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13. Further references are made in the New Testament. For example, in Romans 1:24-32, amid echoes to the Genesis creation account, both male and female same-sex practice are treated as sinful. Further references to the sinfulness of same-sex practice can be seen in 1 Corinthians 6:9 and 1 Timothy 1:10. Who is your God?
