Should the Philippines legalize divorce? | Talk Back

  • It's complicated, this whole talk about legalising divorce in the Philippines. On one side, you have those who claim it will lead to the destruction of the Filipino family. And on the other, are those who ask: What's there to preserve in an already broken relationship? Might as well, give the people another chance to heal and be with someone else who would foster love, not hate.

Not all marriages are as good as the others. Give chance to those who would like to try it again by giving them legal options. Life is just too short to waste it on someone who doesn’t deserve you. Someone who has cheated on you, someone who continues to disrespect you, someone who uses you and all other things.

That's why everyone should take marriage seriously before they get into it, because choosing a partner is a very dangerous thing.
God designed marriage according to his word. So God defines marriage not men. If everyone suffers from miserable marriage, there's no one to blame except those who choose to put themselves in that situation.
Many are product of their own bad decisions and poor choices in life. So we must face the consequence of every foolish decisions we make

This is why marriages fail. We try to so much to change the person that you think a piece of paper or responsibilities as a married person will change him or her. Even strangers like that lawyer want to intervene. People will only change if they face the consequences of their action. So far we dont have that kind of consequence in the Philippines. We only have annulment that is for the ELITES. many people nowadays just leave and never come back. Jump to another person’s house to start an illegitimate family. They are not being held responsible for their own legal families because there is no divorce. If there is no love. set them free. But you are still responsible for your children. That is the right thing to do. Lawful and just. Also, as I have quoted before, if God did not choose to change that person, why would the spouse, a stranger and the government force to do so? That is beyond our capabilities. Don’t force them dude. Divorce is the key

    • @OverdrivenKatana
      @OverdrivenKatana 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

you are exactly right divorce should be legal there no one should be tied down in a marriage if they will just go to another house and start another relationship that's adultery right there why should the two spouses stay married when the other spouse has moved onto another relationship and also they're afraid this will break families up well who wants their children to suffer seeing the trauma of their mom and dad fighting all the time that's worse then a broken family imo im sure the kids will understand when they get older why their parents ended their marriage its time for the Philippines to just legalize it the pain and suffering of the families that have to go through all the trauma on a day to day basis falls on the laws in the phillipines for keeping them tied down with no escape whatsoever.

passing the bill for divorce does not equate to promoting the separation of married couple it is a just a mere option for those who desperately needs it. Not just because you were able to surpass the problems in a marriage does not mean that it is the same for others. Let us give the people the chance to be free, divorce is not the end of a good marriage, it is the end of a bad and toxic marriage instead

You can still love your family even if you’re not living in the same roof with them.

    1. May divorce po noong araw sa Philippines. When the Philippines gained independence from the USA, na repaso ang law due to the Catholic Church who lobbied against it.
    2. Divorce still exists in the Philippines for Muslims and Lumads or local tribes.
    3. Even Catholic nations, including Spain, who brought Catholicism to the Philippines allows Divorce in their country.
    4. Divorce is allowed in the bible. “It was also said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’ But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery. Matthew 5:31-32

Its not complicated, its just that religious people has a hard time when it sinks in that other people doesn't have to conform to their personal beliefs.
There are no great arguments against it, all if not majority of it are religious based arguments w/c isn't suppose to be part of the conversation.
religion and beliefs has no part in legislation.
Divorce isn't the thing that destroys the family, the deterioration of the relationships in that family is the one who does the destroying.
Divorce is just the formality of them going their separate ways.. People who are against it are acting like divorce is the culprit.

I think in a broader view, if Divorce will be legal, many couples will take relationships in a cheaper value. In return, more families will be broken.. family is very important, family is the one who raises a child and has a greater impact on an adult. Broken family has a factor in a person's depression. I get the point of Attorney. He has a broader view. Legality of Divorce has a great impact in country in the long term. 🙂 It's my own opinion.

A family isnt bound by a husband and a wife living in one roof that continuously fight. A child living with both parents in a toxic environment is worse than living with a single parent who is at peace. There is divorce in other countries but do you think they value relationship less? Muslim countries have divorce but their divorce rate is low. Many people will still choose to do the right thing even the bad thing in their marriages with or without divorce. Let’s not put the blame on divorce itself. Divorce is there to protect those who are no longer in a healthy marriage. There should be a legal and amicable way to end it

The answer to the question is: YES! The purpose of marriage is til death do us part, but it's often a spiritual/religious covenant. The Bible covers instances where a follower of God must let a spouse who doesn't believe go if the unbeliever wants to leave. Aside from that, the Bible isn't against divorce. Divorce itself isn't a sin, but sinning can lead to divorce and depending on the circumstances of the divorce the biblical response to the divorce might be sinful if you decide to get remarried. It's a case by case basis, but this being an issue still up for debate in the Phillipines shows that lawmakers there aren't making Biblically based laws. God is at peace with divorce in particular cases. The main reason for it being allowed Biblically was the safety of the woman. Remember that.

I think they should just legalize it tbh yeah i get they're afraid this will break many families up but at the same time if the husband is abusive or vice versa why would you want their kids to see that at such a young age and keep them trapped in a toxic marriage with no way out of the marriage its pointless if you ask me annulment is expensive af and nt many can afford it if they don't wanna make divorce legal at least make annulments affordable and more simple to get

We need couples to survive by mean of getting out of their situation..conflict indeed may resolved but if ur in abusive relationship , surrender is an option.. give chance to those who need to escape on the situation they are in right now. make it more accessible to everyone and not spending too much time to start over again .. everyone needs to be happy . As they said.. family is a basic unit if the society, how would you keep up a family if 2 people engaging to much hate and violence, pls make divorce happen.. this is really timely and relevant now days

ok so around 10:00 the atty invoked "god's blessing" god or your religion should not be a factor in terms of making laws, solving societal problems and actions that affect the masses, the reason being is because not everyone shares your belief and it would be unfair and immoral for the country the church or even for god to force other people to believe what you believe because you believe it.

As we see the video divorce is seen with its benefits and disadvantages. The assumed benefit of it is for the spouses who were abused which in connection negatively affects the children's mental, emotional, social, may or may be not physical wellness as well.
In this view it really seems to be beneficial to a considerably good amount of people BUT not for all of us Filipinos. We have to take note that releasing such privilege, "the easy way out" to people also means that many will abuse this as the lawyer had mentioned. Furthermore, this will encourage many to quit marriage at the first light of conflict or disagreement.
Moreover, just as verbal abuse are detrimental to a child's development so is the lack of either maternal or paternal figure equally damaging to their child/children.
What is divorce teaching our children? To quit when it is tough. That marriage is scary and one might think it is bad.
What are the possibile outcomes of these? One might say " Oh I would love to have marry someone a have a better relationship unlike my parents OR one could say ," I have trust issues now. I am afraid to commitment so I will just be in a live-in relationship with someone. In other words an, "easy way out" again. And if relationships and families are built in a fragile foundation and beliefs like this whats to expect but more broken families, more broken heart, or children become confused of who they are because the parents cannot guide them properly due to their unstable relationships. I am speaking in general for our Filipino society.
    Marrying someone means:
    1. You chose to accept the entire person as they are considering there will be things you do not know about them or you know just enough that know within yourselves that you ate able to get along. Otherwise known as, unconditional love... warts and all.
    2. Marriage teaches resilience, endurance, and creativity towards conflicts and problems. This does not mean I am encouraging women or men to allow their husbands or wives to punch them or abuse them in anyway. I would actually advice then to sue that abusive spouse and get them to rehabilitation RATHER than pushing them to divorce immediately.
    3. Marriage is the beginning I'd the formation of the basic unit of our society, family. Familes build are nation.
Marriage is a serious matter. Think hard before starting or ending one.

I think its okay with divorce however, the process should be harder in getting a divorce and it should be investigated first, requiring a solid reason that is acceptable. Also not everyone is able to honor their pledges and vows, just because you have faith it will work in the name of God, doesn't mean it is happy or healthy. Sooo to the drain with your values.

Children are victims of the consequences but both parties can create arrangement for the welfare and well being of their children.
