@@ricardocantoral7672 If Dana Hill hadn't left us too soon, we would've had the ultimate reunion of all the cast of the original National Lampoon's Vacation films, between 1983 - 1997.

I remember seeing Montenegro at 17 at the Carlton, Toronto. It changed me. Profoundly.

I really enjoyed that movie and thought Susan Anspach was Tremendous - and that theme song is one of the Best to a movie

Siskel recommended One From the Heart but not Apocalypse Now. What?

    • @CaptainSpalding72

Yes. He had the balls to say that. Amazing. He was not easily duped.... I disagreed most with Gene, but he was his own person and stated his reasons why for his dislikes.

It must be said that while his review for Broken Arrow was the only one he ever changed live within the process of the review, he later changed his opinion about Apocalypse Now and said as much during their 500th episode Special in which Rodger Ebert named it the best film since they had begun reviewing movies together.

The first two thirds of Apocalypse Now is great.

I loved the soundtrack....quirky...couldn`t stop listening...but why spend so much money on a film that had no hopes of a being a big success

The real "star" of "One from the Heart" is that giant set of Las Vegas.

In my opinion, films about relationships breaking up are almost always more interesting than movies that focus on the genesis of one.
By the way, I agree about Dana Hill's performance. She did an excellent job.

Have you been able to come across the episode that they review First Blood on?

That's "At the Movies" Season 1, Episode 5. Unfortunately, I've not been able to locate that episode. I can only tell you that Ebert enjoyed it. He just didn't like the way it ended.

My god she looks JUST LIKE HER GORGEOUS FAMOUS FATHER Klaus Kinski! She did when young too but WOW now that she’s old she REALLY looks like him! She couldn’t act her way out a paper bag but she was gorgeous….she couldn’t even get parts with her dads or Roman Polanski (her longtime bf) getting her these parts…..nope….finally she gave up for the most part at least….

terri Garr, a national treasure. Should have won an Oscar for YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN and TOOTSIE!@

I enjoyed her in Young Frankenstein, but Oscar Worthy, No
She was definitely deserving for Tootsie, especially since Jessica Lange was the LEAD Role
But I'd still pick Lesley Ann Warren for Victor/Victoria for the Oscar

Both of these guys must have been having a very OFF day when they saw Night Crossing. It is not a great film, but it tries to tell the compelling story in a family-accessible way, and I thought they did a pretty decent job of it. But Gene and Roger, all they can do is criticize that real East Germans were not cast in all the roles. No mention is made of the resourcefulness of the heroes in slyly obtaining all the materials over a long period of time to avoid arousing suspicion, how they worked to learn unfamiliar technologies (developing burners, learning flying techniques), and all the other interesting aspects of the story.

When “One from the Heart” came out on VHS tape I rented it and could only get through the first 20 minutes.
It’s interesting how this episode was pre-thumb Siskel and Ebert.
Instead of up or down it was yea or nay.

You have to understand that many of these old videos are tiny and came out before broadband. I didn't shrink the videos. The backgrounds are just wallpaper. Newer videos are much larger.

I love the internet but I really miss the days when you'd catch Siskel & Ebert to see if a movie was worth watching. Nowadays the internet hive mind bubbles up its opinions on social media and message boards, a mixture of half-formed opinions from the rabble and mindless sheep who agree with them.
These men represent an era of erudite film criticism that understands the deeper meanings of the medium. RIP Siskel & Ebert.
