Thank you for uploading all these episodes. And I appreciate you explaining why there's a tv frame. At 1st it was off-putting but knowing why it's there makes sense and quality looks best because of it
Yeah, first thing I noticed watching the old eps from 70s and early 80s was that the clips they showed were like twice as long as the later 90s episodes, at least. Maybe because I grew up watching S and E in the 90s as a kid that I prefer the clips to be much shorter than the really old days. Also, shorter clips mean longer talking/arguing among the two men, which is why I (and many others) loved the shows in the first place. Edit: maybe my logic was wrong. The movie clips were shortened in later years probably because of more commercial ads played, and their discussions were probably the same length more or less. Still, I kinda liked the shorter movie clip format more
@@schmeltingaccident I might like the shorter clips a little better, but it’s also an unanswerable question, to me. In these years, the show was named “Sneak Previews,” arguably because the clips were a nod to a movie’s length, anyway.
Tron is one of my all time favorite films . I've owned almost every home video format and was never as excited when Disney released a CAV remastered Widescreen Edition from the 70mm negative print .An Archive Collection Laserdisc in 1995 . It was the best Laserdisc I'd ever own & to this day I still own it. I wish Disney would release it in 70mm it would be spectacular .
would be great to upload the raw videos as as well as the tv framed version. youtube has no problem with both files, but researchers and those viewers watching on small sreens (phones etc) can experience problems with the tv templates
Another video where Gene Siskel expresses his disappointment with previous Disney movies. I guess _The Fox and the Hound (1981)_ didn't cut it; maybe _Splash (1984)_ was their next hit? _Tron_ was popular but not a hit at the box office, making only $33M on an estimated $17M budget (double is the break-even point). Funnily enough Bluth started his own studio with _Secret of NIMH_ being one of his first films but it made only $14M on a budget of $7M so only broke even. For some reason (Christmas season?) they released their movies almost the same weekend as other children's fare like _Oliver and Company (1988), The Little Mermaid (1989)_ and _Home Alone (1990),_ (as well as this a week before _Tron)_ which may have led to their films underperforming and the studio's demise.
Secret of NIMH and Tron are simply amazing movies.
A lot of praise for Secret of NIMH. I gotta see it.
I was born in 1979 so I guess I'm too young for NIHM and Tron
@@MarvinMonroe Sounds like you could have rented them on VHS. Now had you been born in 1990....

1982 was a damn good year at the movies.
The best ever.
Secret of NIMH is awesome 😎
"Everything is awesome."
I’m shocked they loved Tron! As a huge fan of Secret oh Nmh it’s heartwarming to see them so positive about these two amazing films.
I agree with you. They were also habitually negative about animation, including another Don Bluth gem An American Tail.
The Secret Of NIMH is tremendous.
Tron is awesome 😀.
They showed huge film clips in those early years. In later years,, the clips were much smaller.

United Yes for all films. Wow
The Devil's Playground was really quite good! and Gregory's Girl too.
I read one of the reasons why Siskel & Ebert left Sneak Previews was because they were tired of having the dogs in the balcony.
I think it was primarily money related....they had a skunk in the beginning of the syndicated show....
@@iluvmylovebirdandmybudgiet7729 That's true - I forgot about that critter. 😋
No. It was money. Disney gave them hefty raises.
I honestly thought they were just going to show that entire animated movie that I never heard of.
They BETTER love TroN‼️‼️‼️
25:45 point that joint out!
What an interesting time at the movies.
I bet that was Zeke's first and last apearence.
It wasn't. He appeared many times.
Owls eat mice
That could have been a problem.
R.I.P. Zeke

I saw NIMH in 1982 at age 10 and it fit right. Always loved this film.
So Gene Siskel thought a timid female mouse afraid for her sick child was "a bit of a twerp". Attaboy, Siskel, as incisive as ever.
Never understood why they kept on having dogs here.
MCP = Windows
Kinda disapointed that they like Tron. Well could be worse. Could be Tron Legacy.
nahhh i saw tron as a youth.... its a crummy movie.. even the video game was blahh
I saw Super Bowl III as a kid. Lousy game, really. QB for New York was terrible too.
Tron is a Sci-Fi Classic! Terrific film!
I saw a porno as a kid. It was gross and icky.
Never understood why more TRON didnt happen sooner.
Dear Gene, the computer turned out to suck. Social media is cancer.
Humongous! Hahah
