    You are the dead luckiest model railroader on TH-cam to have such generous supporters. I can tell how genuinely grateful you are when you receive these wonderful gifts. Did you ever think you would be this fortunate when you started your channel?

      Thanks Don. You are correct, and I never expected to have such amazing support. I cherish ever item sent to me, from a replacement gear from Armand, to these mega detailed locos from Greg and Siubhon.
      I do have a plan on how I can show my appreciation to everyone on my layout.

    The New York Central "lightning stripe" and the Great Northern scheme are two of the most attractive schemes ever. Great Northen was one of the companies that became BNSF with the paint scheme carrying over into the modern era. Very nice. Beautifully smooth running locos. Now you need some GN passenger cars.

    The model railroading community is just awesome! I love seeing model railroaders give others awesome gifts. Some ppl could be envious when they do not open themselves up to the opportunity to receiving gifts from the community. The envious may comment negatively, unfortunately this happens when you open yourself up as well. I love E units. That looks like a QSI decoder. good sound for an old sound decoder. Congrats Dave! Also, NYC is a cool RR.

      I think it also has a lot to do with the two giant speakers it has. This was a really neat decoder install.

    On QSI, you may have read, the Function buttons may do a different sounds when idling or when moving.

    Great northern is the N in BNSF, where the orange colour comes from. Watch for split gears on proto models. Otherwise great. They are packed like that to show the quality upgrade when lifelike introduced proto models to replace their previous toy range. Hope this helps.

    Love the Proto E7s. Have a full set of Pere Marquettes, including custom painted pre C&O merger. Then I got a pair of Great northerns and UPs . Still building up the trains for those.
    That square piece you found is an axle bearing DON'T LOSE IT. It looks like yours came with all 12 installed and that may be a spare. If you need anymore, you'll probably need a parts donor. Also, the E7 and E8 bearings are different.

    # 11 is the handbrake being applied. #4 on the great northern sound like the reverser being put in forward or reverse. Those locos in real life had window cranks like cars used to have but it went up and down with 1 single crank vs cars you cranked many times.

    f11 on the GN is rail clack, The NYC has momentum programed into it, you should be able to change a couple of CVs and do the same with the GN. I think its CV 5&6? read the manual and it will tell you which to change, you may be able to change the bell and horn sound as well. Nice Locos , have fun

    • @raybertelsen6090

    Hey Dave, I just feelized that you have so many DCC locomoto's and rolling stock now that I'm surprised you didn't think of turning the bigger inner inner loop into a turnaround for the main line trains to spur off to turn around and go the opposite direction

    • @ScottRails
      @ScottRails  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's still a possibility.

    There are many settings for decoders. you are not even scratching the surface. The delay in movement are settings in the decoder as well as many many other functions. Also the instructions list what the sounds are Bell, horn, coup[ler crash etc etc. As stated earlier you are on the surface of knowing DCC. Love your channel though, your sincerity is refreshing.

    • @ScottRails
      @ScottRails  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I spent a few hours after the video playing with settings. I try not to stray too far from the original settings, but everyone has their own idea of perfection right.

  • @casstelles
    @casstelles 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I liked the sound on the Great Northern E7A a little better than the NYC E7A. The decoder of the NYC unit has something weird with the dynamic volume. It sounds like myself trying to tune my HF ham radio when the bands aren't open to listen or transmit. While the NYC unit's decoder has more sounds, the 'tuning/noise floor' sound mentioned of the volume would drive me crazing. Who knows? This may be adjusted in the CV programing. As far as the Digitrax decoder's whine, this is due to the decoder needing a CV adjustment for the sound throttle notch synchronization. This is why the Great Northern unit makes the whine of a locomotive with a wide-open throttle.

    Question why do ur trains in America and Canada have bells on them?

    • @ScottRails
      @ScottRails  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It seems to be a slow speed thing, a bit like how electric cars have a built in audio alert to warn pedestrians at low speed. I guess it was started a long time ago and they just never changed it.

    As well as doing a second level and if you decide to do a second level, I have an idea on how you could do it to connect to your lower level. It's kind of hard to explain so I'd have to draw it on a piece of paper. Take a picture of it and email it to you if that's possible. And if that's the case, is there a possibility? That I could somehow send it to you. Unfortunately I do not do Facebook. I do happen to have Instagram and email for communication through online

    Talking of DCC sound, I have just started to run in a brand new out of the box Rapido E8A. Much to my surprise I hear Johnny Cash singing "City of New Orleans". I kid you not. Pressing a certain function key triggered this. Anybody know if this was Rapido's sense of humour or an employee taking the Michael. Anybody else come across this?
    Love the P2Ks. Give great bang for the buck.
