I used The Ordinary Parent’s Guide to Teaching Reading by Jessie Wise. I love the content and the teaching progression, and I’m actually currently using it with our 2nd with great success. But for our first, it was not a great fit for his learning style: He needed the extra resources, games, activities and additional review that AAR provides. We had already done all of the pre reading content in the other book, and he was ready to jump right into AAR Level 1. They have a quiz on their website that helps you determine which level I right for your student ☺️

What was the first book you tried? Also, did you start with the pre reading level or jump right in to level one?
