I had a cait-sìth (only cat size, but still black with a white blaze on the chest). I gave them tribute when seen, on Samhain, and took care of the local strays.
A logal zoology building had a stuffed large black cat (with a white patch). They had it branded as The Kellas Síth (Fairy Cat, was written in brackets). This was about 30+ years back. It is not longer on display.
Finally I found someone who actually can pronounce the name correctly not only is this story extremely interesting but it also made me realize that this person put a lot of time and effort into it I am definitely a new subscriber and have knowledge of theTuatha De Danann or the Celtic Gods & their practices. i think its a supernatural effect of gaelic languages that everyone pronounces their words incorrectly all the time. i once tried to use a "teach yourself to speak welsh" book, and it did not go well.
Well if you are used to anime they call it Cait Sith. Most likely how you have been saying. Or it could be just a cultural thing like "aluminum" or a difference like between data and data like the people Celtics is said differently from the Basketball team 🤔
The only time I have seen (hallucinated) something supernatural as an adult, was seeing this puppy-like thing move across my mom's living room. It was made up of this incredibly dark, purple static, and vanished once it made itself go around the side of the couch.
who knows, could have been a doggy that passed away and came back to visit. That can happen from time to time, even if it wasn't yours or hers, it could be an owner of the house from the past.
I always leave milk out for the Cat-Sidhe every Samhain (Halloween). One year I didn't because I was away and our calves died and we had a drought that killed our fruit trees and garden that season. So needless to say I put the milk out every October 31st even if I have to crawl out there to do it!!!
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoy them - I certainly enjoy writing them! Sadly though, the standalone stories don’t seem to perform very well, so I need to find a solution there or explore new ways to share them.
@maxnum1sgameclub263 You’re absolutely right that the myth itself is ancient, but since I couldn’t find any surviving stories about the Cait-Sìth's involvement in a late wake, I wrote the triple-narrative poem featured in this video-that’s what OP means by an original story. Hope you enjoyed it! I’ve written a few pieces like this for different creatures, as it’s often the case with ancient folklore that while the concept endures, the individual stories are lost.
These pictures are AI-generated, so I don’t make them commercially available out of respect for working artists. However, if the channel collaborates with an artist in the future, this could change. Finding artistic depictions of mythical creatures can be tricky, but I’m sure you could find something to decorate your cottage!

@BeastsoftheOldeWorld I must confess I didn't know much especially nine life and witches,Halloween ,death...I like it alot and also story part ..it s fascinating 👏
Firstly, thank you for the video and information. Secondly, a cat, any cat, is best met with respect. Thirdly... I found this oddly familiar and reassuring. Sometimes I have what I just call a 'sixth sense' for lack of understanding how it works. But if I 'know' death is coming for an animal under my care, there's naught I can do but care for them and comfort them. Once I know, it's too late. I've never had that inner knowledge be wrong. Sometimes it also warns me of approaching danger to myself and/or those I'm with... and I know full well to NEVER ignore that warning.
My cat always guards me when I'm in the bathtub or shower, always reminding me about the ritual of washing my ears ‐ mostly so she can make sure I hear her cries of starvation from the hollow sadness of the fact the she may have reached the bottom of her bowl. ❤️
Shaggy, overlarge black cat with green eyes and a white locket that likes to stand on its hind legs, you say. So... what if you live with one? 'Cause that's a dead on description of my Sasquatch. I also have a gangly, gently misshapen black catbeast that I tell people is actually a goblin that heard about the posh life pet cats have, so he tried to turn himself into one and got it noticeably wrong. He's my best scrungle, though.
It sounds just like my Kurgan, too. Bonus coincidences: He was born on a Friday the 13th and he's named after a type of burial mound, by way of a movie character named after a group of people named after the type of burial mound they preferred. He's the politest, most considerate gentleman you could hope to meet. In fact, he's so mannerly my former roommates just address him as "Sir". Especially after he scared them out of their wits by mimicking my signature knock on their bedroom door when they knew nobody else was home. Come to think of it, maybe I should... buy him extra treats this month or something.
Is this where "staying up with the body" of the deceased even in a funeral parlor came from or having a wake in one's own home? My Welsh and English predecessors performed this in the south, even up until a decade ago when the practice was politely but still highly discouraged by funeral homes.
@@BeastsoftheOldeWorld I remember when we could not bury someone for 3 days, and now the funeral industry says 2 days. When I was a child Granny passed away. We younger kids were in another parlor away from Granny, playing cards. This was on Halloween night. Suddenly, it started storming and all the lights went out in the entire funeral home. Not necissarily. There are plenty of stories of monsterous cats all over the world. You have the yule cat in Iceland, the Cha Kla of Thailand, the Bakeneko and Nekomata of japan, the Matagot of france and the Wampus cat of North America. Even though we all love cats, there is something about them that make them easy to turn into monsters. Moreso than most other animals. Maybe because they are an animal that dont fit anywhere, they are always on the border of things....they border day and night, domestication and ferality, intimacy and independance, elegance and clumsiness. Even the most goofy cat have a layer of mystery over them. They can make the hardest of hearts melt. Its not strange at all that all cultures will create similar stories about how they can steal our souls, or protect them. Its all up to their whim.
@@Sakuyamon never really thought about it, and I do not know any of the ones you mentioned. I didn't know much about The CaitSith till this video, out side of games.
@BeastsoftheOldeWorld My mother once warned me to keep cats away from newborn babies because they would steal away their breath, leaving them to die of asphyxiation. This was in the U.S.A.
Cats are known to love the taste of almost all animal milk, including human. So mothers are warned never to let cats around their infants because the cat will "steal their breath." In truth it's the cat trying to lick the milk off the babies face and mouth. Infants aren't able to push them off, ie no gross motor skills, or too deeply asleep to move, and if the cat is standing on their chest, it can cause suffocation. However, most cats are fully aware that infants are in fact their humans young and will either avoid them like water, or cuddle with them for warmth. Its incredibly rare for a cat to cause serious harm to infants if proper care is taken.
I've been saying " Kate Sith"😂 Also heard a different version saying Cait S¡th means King of Cats. Yet, both versions are around death and the Cats 9 lives
