These videos are a fascinating look at what happens inside a camera, way more interesting than the gear reviews TH-cam is usually trying to shovel into my eyes. Thanks for making them!
New reference for repair videos of old SLRs!
Very thorough. Excellent video thank you.
Keep up the good work. These videos are so much clearer and better produced than other repair videos. I'm hoping that you'll show how to get to the focusing screen on the next one. I need to clean mine, but it seems to be sandwiched between two smooth glass pieces and I can't get it apart.
Coming up this weekend! Although that sounds maybe a little different than the version I'm working on. K1000's are notorious for having different internal parts from year to year.
@SamsCameraBench Ah ok, thanks. I was lucky enough to get a Japanese one for a bargain price. There are just a couple of niggles to sort out first.
Thank You for sharing!
Excellent stuff and extremely helpful! I'm about half way through this particular video. I've thought about using an ultrasonic cleaner for the various parts in order to clean gunk and grime off 'as much as practically possible', do you think this would be overkill?
Yeah, ultrasonic cleaners are great for this. I've started using mine more just to save on cotton buds. I do have to be a little more careful with keeping track of parts though. Once they go in the cleaner, I lose any organization that I might have had on the work mat.
Any idea why a mirror would flip up when advancing film? flips back down when the shutter is fired and all speeds work.
Sounds like the mirror latch is stuck. See 11:20 in the video for more of an explanation. And I'll pay you later for making me sound really smart, haha.
The mirror latch bias spring on mine is broken. Do you know what is the correct size (or the approximate gauge of wire)?
I know that people do fabricate new springs but it's not something I have experience with. Guitar strings are a common source for the thin springy wire. Forming the wire into the correct shape is, of course, the tricky part. And some sort of annealing is required at the end to remove residual stresses. Good luck!
So what cameras do you work on? I see you have vids of only pentaxes so far. Do you do for example medium format cameras or just slrs?
Mostly Pentaxes for now. Once you learn how one Pentax works, it's much easier to work on other models from the brand. They have a lot in common. Plus it's what I personally shoot so I have a lot of lenses and other accessories I can test the cameras with. I haven't worked on any medium format cameras yet. I do plan on making videos for some fixed lens cameras, though. Like an Olympus 35RC. Stuff like that.
@@SamsCameraBench Cool. Waiting forward to seeing what you come up with.
So have you tried replacing shutter curtains yet?
I have removed shutter curtains in order to clean the roller and pinion shafts. I haven't installed new cloth yet. But I don't think I'll be removing the curtains on this camera.
@@SamsCameraBench well then you could at that point have done it, you are a talent
