  • Having owned the Pentax for more than 40 years, after buying the camera at the age of 13 in the United States, it is time to discover if the camera lives up to its' "cult" image. As a 13 year old, I worked the whole summer to buy this camera and it has never let me down. In this video I show some photo's which I made when I first bought the camera and during the years following... The last week I took the Pentax K1000 outside in the fog and into the forest with a roll of Ilford Delta 400, which I developed in ID-11. Find out at the end if it still stands up to its' "cult" image.

Wow, what a nice and valuable video! And awesome pictures made with the Delta 400 and your historic pictures as well! Compared to todays cameras with unpredictable results regarding autofocus and exposure automation and many menues and pages of user manuals, your Pentax and my Voigtländer Vito B and Nikon FM are much faster and the results are always close to what you expected them to be. Decades ago I had the same fun and experience as you had and I still have. I would claim my pictures to be nice but I claim my fun using these basic and excellent cameras as AWESOME!

Cute little blond fella in the beginning there. I should take "school" shots once classes resume.

The Asahi K1000 was my first SLR. I bought it second hand. Still have it.

Good Review of one of my Favorit Kameras (I have the "modern" KX too, but like the Sound of the 1000.
And the old pictures are very nice!

I don't think of the k1000 as a Pulp Fiction kind of cult camera. It is one of the more important cameras to learn photography with. It is right up there with the Canon ae1 and the nikon fm/fe series. Besides it has been in production for a very long time! Even when everything was autofocus and electronic, the K1000 was still in the sales catalogue. If sold one of the last K1000 back in the early 90's I forgot to whom... big respect to this camera!!!

Wow! Die eerste foto's geven een mooi tijdsbeeld! "American highschool in de jaren 70". Echte leuke foto's.

Nice camera! I'll be picking one up tomorrow. Tonight I've been working on a Pentax KX, which is the more advanced version of the K1000. Can't wait to test it with some B&W film..
