  • Ohhhhh, the stresses and strains of traveling. Phuket to Bangkok may seem simple, but when you add up the taxis and waiting time it's not as simple as it appears.

You can take the Red Line sky train. It's about a 5 minute walk from Don Meuang. Then spend an hour on the train to Nana. I typically try not to use Don Meuang because it's so far north and if there's a lot of traffic it can take forever to get to Nana.

Same here, I always want to fly to Suvarnabhumi. Rush hour from Don Mueang is a guaranteed falling asleep in the taxi for me 😅

  • @mtm4a

Nicely put together, Eddie, despite your endless wait at Don Mueang for a taxi - that was unbelievable! And you did look and sound very tired at the end of it all!
Make sure you have a nice restful time in Pattaya, I'm sure you will. Then after that, you never know, you might even appreciate being back home again, in your own bed, after your long absence!
I am flying out to Bangkok in a couple of days from my home in Spain, and then on to Chiang Mai, Hua Hin and Phuket for three weeks in total. It will be nice being back in Thailand again after an absence of four years.

top tip , when landing at swampy in Bkk, if you have bolt or grab, go to the top floor where taxis drop off passengers that are departing and use your app to book a taxi, I always get a good rate as there are so many drop offs with drivers happy to get a fare out of the airport with no waiting. Most likely work in Don Mueang too.

Phucket is a global paradise location. What bit about things there being over priced are people not comprehending. They will charge what they want from burger King to bar fines. And someone will always pay!

I know when I visited Thailand for the first time flying from London Heathrow to Bangkok, staying 3 nights at a hotel close to the Grand Palace, I used Air Asia from Bangkok to Phuket and it was painless. I agree that domestic flights are less hassle. I've used Air Asia quite a bit especially flying around South East Asia. Last time I used Air Asia was back in Feb 2020 from Krabi to Singapore which took 1.5 hours. While I don't drink alcohol, I would normally get a nice, cold soft drink. I think I have seen a even smaller Burger King in Saudi Arabia but never like BK, McDonalds nor KFC but Subway is OK. I think King Power refers to King Power Mahanakhon Building in Bangkok, which I've visited and went up to the Skywalk for the amazing city views. Bangkok is an amazing city with so much things to offer, but I spent my time visiting the main temples (Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Wat Arun), doing the Chao Praya River Cruise, going up a couple of buildings for city views, visit to Ayutthaya, Asiatique Riverfront, mosques and halal markets, and Chinatown - didn't bother with Khaosan Road or the floating market.

Edward as far as Bolt taxi are concerned the only unreliability I find is at peek times. As for where to catch the bolt I can only speak for BKK and what I do is go to the airport link and catch the train to the first stop, Lat Krabang, and get the bolt from outside the staion on the road, just wait at the bottom of the stairs, for DM maybe go to the red line and do the same. It could have been worse - you could have been leaving Phuket for a Cold Grimey UK,not sure what looked more like Dusty Bin - the robot hoover or the Bankok Airways plane. That taxi system at Don Mueang airport looked hopeless - you should have gone to departures and got a taxi dropping someone off.Cheers

How are you now mate?? 100% yet??? Jeesus, must be a shortage of cabs or drivers nowdays in Bangkok. I guess trains from airport to hotel would have been a pain in the arse with your big suitcase?? 55 bht, I noticed, for a big croissant in Phuket airport is actually a very good price for an airport.. As too is that 75 baht for a small beer. Cheers Eddie. ;-]👍👍

You're right, I don't want to be lugging a big suitcase around trains or buses. Much rather have a taxi. Hope you had a good journey home mate.
