I know the continuity is probably off, but I really hope Kara is feeling better! It SUCKS being in a foreign country, sick as can be, literally bedridden. She's a champ, but so is Nate! Pushing through to give us this amazing footage and story: it's impressive and beautiful at the same time. Thanks guys.

I agree! My absolute favourite video’s are when they’re in amongst the locals and experiencing culture in it’s true form. That’s what made me fall in love with their channel 😌
I love what you said Nate. The call to prayer made you feel so special not because it was a call to prayer but because it highlighted the differences and the fact that you get to experience a different way of life. Most people who are Christian might consider that a negative thing, you guys embrace diversity and other cultures and represent Christianity in a way that makes me proud to be a Christian! I strive to be as open, loving, and accepting as you guys are. You can’t put a price tag on niceness.
I'm not religious but was recently in Malaysia and enjoyed hearing it, it was kinda comforting and helped you keep track of the time. Even though it wasn't meant for us, we enjoyed hearing the singing and something different from the quiet back home

I lived in Brunei for six years as a kid! I haven’t been back since we left in 2000, so it was amazing to see a glimpse of the way things have changed or stayed the same in this vlog. Thanks for sharing!
Live in Brunei 🇧🇳 for 4 years as a Singapore 🇸🇬 Military permanent staff personnel from 1994 to 1998. Christmas is not illegal, it is a public holiday but the celebration is not celebrated publically like in Singapore 🇸🇬. It is a great country. Try Jerudong Park and go to Kuala Belait, you guys will love it. I was mostly station at Temburong not Bandar Seri Begawan.

I work with Ayusa International high school exchange, and have spent most of my adult life promoting cultural exchange. Thank you for emphasizing that there are good people everywhere, as well as the fact that in a country the people and it’s government are not the same, especially when they do not have a say in it. Thanks, too, for being good ambassadors. I love watching your videos. When you share these cultural tidbits and show that people are people, you are making the world a better place. And you thought you were just making travel videos!

@@Malc180sNot necessarily true. Look at America right now. Our govt is horrific the past couple of decades but we keep getting the same shit over and over. And do our votes really count anymore? It doesn’t feel like they do. We are becoming an oligarchy.
@@Malc180sI used to believe this was true until really digging into the mapping/gerrymandering here in the US. I can't speak for other countries, but there's been a concerted effort since our inception to discount the votes of certain demographics. Even if we had fair voting boundaries and no electoral college, the majority still doesn't represent _everyone_ . And as seen in our presidential elections, the count is usually split almost in half.
I love all of their videos, but this type is my favorite. When they are just exploring a new place, eating the food and meeting the people. It feels natural and wholesome. I’m happy they can go on cool adventures but I’ve been waiting for a new country video. Feels like going back to their roots 🤍
This vlog is what separates the traveler from the tourist. Kara & Nate continue to push boundaries and get out of the comfort zone that tourists usually have. They have set themselves apart from other TH-cam travelers.

A tourist reserve their lounger at the pool in the morning and boards a coach after midday. Repeat that for two weeks in an all inclusive ressort and then fly home.
Believe it or not but paying taxes or not paying taxes might not be the foundation of what everyone perceives as the highlight of individual happiness, but for people who enjoy it there, go for it.
Envy you. Your country is so peaceful. I never felt safe walking around at night but not in Brunei. I love how quiet the city is & how kind people are here. It’s the best place to live in. I can feel that people here are so happy to be Bruneian. I also met a Malasian who is a PR of Brunei, lives and works here, she told me how happy she is here. She feels very much safer than living in Malaysia.
Hearing the call to prayer for the first time while traveling was such an amazing experience for me. I’ve often wondered what Kara and Nate thought about it being from a similar background as me. It’s so beautiful and foreign and a wonderful reminder of how big the world is
Its so magical. The first time i heard it was in Jakarta when our family moved for my fathers job. The way it echoed over the city was simply making me cry.

I moved to Brunei 🇧🇳 from the UK 🇬🇧 7 years ago. I would say the Government is one of the best things about Brunei, His Majesty The Sultan Of Brunei really seems to care about his people and I have met and spoken to him and his family several times. In 30 years in the UK i never even got close to my leaders and I don’t feel they care about the UK or it’s people at all. Imagine if we judged Americans for the decisions of their government, it would be a billion times worse. Brunei never killed or invaded anyone. The religion is very important in Brunei and I think it’s good they value traditional beliefs and the way of living. It’s a peaceful country, people are generally very friendly and there is very little crime or conflict. People are happy here. I find it insulting when western countries act superior and say negative things about how the people of Brunei choose to live. It’s not your country, if you don’t like it, don’t go. Personally I can’t think of a nicer better place to live. Do visit Brunei, they need the tourists and you will get wonderful memories and experiences here.
I’ve been watching for years and I feel like lately Nate has so much more personality, he just seems so confident in himself in a good way not a cocky way

I’m a widow and my husband and I lived in different countries and enjoyed traveling. I’m so happy to have found your channel and, in this video, hearing you continually referring to Kara made me love both of you even more. 💜
I'm loving the running tour of the hotel. I'm sorry Kara wasn't feeling well during your visit. This felt like an old school Kara and Nate video. I love it!
I thought it felt a bit rushed and I don't mean that as a pun. Cuts are 2-3 seconds and you lose the sense of scale when teleporting around. I feel like I only comment when I have something negative to say so sorry about that!

hearing your description about brunei made me in tears, and im a bruneian myself! thanks you for dropping by you both.. and i hope Kara recovers. and most importantly i hope you both had a great time in brunei! 🎉❤
Now I'm even more sad that I didn't visit Brunei when I was in Indonesia and Malaysia - and I love your videos, they are really refreshing and real. I enjoy going back a little in my busy everyday life and watching you enjoy life the way you want it to be enjoyed. I know behind the scenes that there are many challenges associated with travelling, but every time you post a new video you manage to excite with your huge enthusiasm and mood and show us viewers that you really love to do what you do.
oh my god I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU GUYS CAME TO BRUNEI!! I’VE BEEN WATCHING YOU GUYS SINCE FOREVER & NEVER WOULD I HAVE EVER THOUGHT THAT YOU’LL EVER COME TO MY COUNTRY!! please come over again & spend some more time here!
I love when you meet fans out in the wild, lol. That hotel was stunning, I'd be spending all my time in the swimming pools. I hope Kara feels better soon, I can imagine that being on the move so much and in so many extreme living situations can wear you down sometimes. The floating village is so fascinating, it's incredible that all of that is there out in the water like that. I loved your comments during the Call to Prayer, as I've grown up in the US surrounded by churches and am used to the loud church bells, but the call to prayer sounds otherworldly to me. I think I would be startled hearing it for the first few times, just hearing a voice in the sky like that, but sound soothing and meditative after the shock wears off. Thank you for sharing!
I stayed in that hotel once, i was a sound man for an artist who was invited to come play at the sultan's soccer teams birthday which happens to be his sons birthday if im not mistaken. Came out to the lobby and saw lines of rolls roys parked outside. Also our bus kept its engine running though out the night during the show, its to keep the AC cold the driver said. It was a few hours.
Seriously the best TH-cam channel out there! Even when I leave it running when I'm doing housework or working in the yard, it's still amazing. Thank you!
I admire your fantastic attitude and openmindedness. You and Kara are a breath of fresh air. I wish I could travel the way you do, but since I can't, I just love watching your channel. It makes me optimistic. I also appreciate how hard you work to plan your destinations and all the filming and editing work that goes into these videos. I hope Kara is better soon.
About 30 years ago I was working in dtwn Seattle and the Sultan of Brunei was in town for a meeting with world leaders. At the time I was listening to an old radio and the upper part of the dial would occassionally pick up cell phone calls. To my shock one of the calls that came through my phone was the Sultan of Brunei making dinner arranagements. I will never forget that accidental incercept and of course at the time had never heard of Brunei so I had to look up the sultan and find out who he was.
@@skyezblue3136 I dont really have much of an opinion on him. The conversation was not very exciting. It was actually just about where he wanted to have dinner.

So I’m a huge dork and every time I see y’all meeting fans I get emotional for those people…I would totally cry happy tears if I ever met y’all because I have followed you forever and it would be like meeting old friends. So if you ever happen to see me out, excuse me being a teary loser! Promise I’m normal and cool! 🤣 Feel better Kara! ❤ You did great on the tour for us Nate…what a beautiful hotel!
Many thanks for sharing the people of the world who fill your videos with so much diversity and food-it’s wonderful to peek into these distant places places through your eyes. Kara & Nate is always better with two, but you did us right, Nate. Hope to see you both next time!
i live 3 hour from brunei and they are the nicest people on earth and the safest place you can be, western media always portraying anything about sharia law is negative, people living here are depressing, people are rebellious and so on but it is the opposite, people are happy here...thanks kara and nate for coming here...
As Borneo people,u said it right.nah,i am not a Muslim,Brunei have their own rule, people need to respect that.ndadala orang tidak gembira,org2 sana jak suka buat2 cerita nda bagus.
Lovely people, lovely video. I love the message of not judging a country by it’s government/leadership, I must admit I am guilty of doing that myself. But you have made me a better person. Thank you. I’m looking forward to next weeks video. Hope you feel better soon Kara! Love from the UK. XxX
I love the fact that Kara says love you too when fans come up and say they love Kara and nate. Most youtubers or influencers would just say "aw thanks" or "that's so sweet".
The other youtubers are being honest though. Can you honestly say "love you" to people you've never seen before? Can you truly love a stranger you just met?
Watching you connect with locals and immersing yourselves in different cultures is so enjoyable. It's during these experiences that you get to understand the essence of a place and its people. Thank you for letting us be a part of your journey and inspiring us to do the same.
Greetings from Brunei. Happy that you guys finally visited my country. Your travel videos are the ones that have inspired me to start my own YT channel. Sorry to hear about Kara being sick and hope she gets better soon. Once again, thank you for the video 😄 hope you have had a great time in Brunei 🇧🇳
I hope kara fully recovered before the current survival challenge! And after 3 wks of barely sleeping trying to get my toddler to transition to criv, understand very well!! My bed feels like paradise.
Being in Brunei really brings me so much peace and comfort. Amazing air quality, sunsets, food, low crime rates and blessed with free healthcare/education. It's not perfect and we lack in a lot of things but I love it here
Thank you for given a south east asia this level of respect. Hope you come back for more and don't forget to stop in Malaysia. By the way, In Malaysia, our version of: -roti john have either minced chicken or beef in the egg bater - pancake (apam balik) have crushed peanuts, sugar and cream corn. Some food stalls make other flavour as well like chocolate, nutella, etc.
You two are gifted when it comes to meeting new people. The interactions are genuine and beautiful. I agree 100% that you cannot judge the substance of a country based on its government alone. Prayers for Kara that she gets better soon and thank you Nate for "filling in". :)
I love this episode so much❤❤ even though i missed kara most of the video 🥺 but guyyys, to me this is what travel vlogging is all about!! Ive never heard of this country and now im super excited to go and experience it! You made a great job by showing different parts of it. Great story telling, videography, and editing👏🏻
What a charming vlog... Your love for Kara was so lovely. I love how respectful you both are to people when visiting their countries and culture. Good job Nate you were amazing being out of your comfort zone... Feel better soon kara ❤
Thank you for that intro. You guys have such a huge reach, it’s such a positive thing to explain to soooo many people who haven’t been fortunate enough to travel the world that, contrary to what you hear, most people in the world are lovely, accomodating, friendly and do not reflect what transient government is in charge. Can’t listen to the headlines….
I absolutely loved this video. I love all your videos but this one felt like your old school vlogs. Night markets and exploring the beautiful country with locals 😊😊
ok so i know this is completely off topic but i JUST and i mean JUST got out of nashville like just got out of there i'm from texas born and raised there but i'm currently heading to ohio but i'm going to myrtle beach and i'm pretty sure i saw nate in a gray shirt but it may not have been it could've been a coincidence but it looked really close to your van
I love geography and I have to admit that I've never heard of Brunei. Thanks for your video, because I like to learn at least one thing a day, so I'm good for the rest of the day, lol. Actually, I've learned my one (or more) thing for the day from your videos more than once.😊
I hope Kara is feeling better. I love how you are willing to go to out of the way, out of the ordinary places. It’s very interesting to hear about the different details of the culture, architecture, religion, politics, food, daily living, (ways people use the toilet in diverse places) You guys never disappoint! Thank you
Glad you did this episode. You guys have a lot of us in the queer community who love watching your videos and have followed you since day one. It's nice to see you addressing the Sultans policy around homosexuality. Would love for you guys to have some more queer focused episodes in the future. Especially since you tavel so much, Im sure the queer experience is so different everywhere you go in the world
I lived here in Brunei for 21 years already. Brunei is a smallest country, clean and green and respectful people here. Very peaceful country and relaxing.
I did a report on Brunei in HS. I chose the country because I had heard about the Shari law stuff. I learned so much about it. It seems like a beautiful country.
Awesome video! "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness" Mark Twain. This vlog exemplifies just that. I hope that Kara is feeling better.
Kara was maybe more excited than we’ve ever seen her, but maybe we all would be in a 7 star hotel. Just loved your response to realising you’d been recognised, self-conscious! X
People are not their governments! This is also one of the greatest lessons I have learned from traveling and living abroad! I wish more people understood this!
Wow, so cool to see this country and its people. So sorry Kara wasn’t feeling well. I hope she’s back to feeling great!! Love from Southern California 💗
Nate! Your editing skills on this left me in awe. You talk about the only 7star hotel in the world, and then show a shack on stilts that looks like it is about to fall into the river! The hotel room itself had to be so much better than staying with the family where you had no toilet! What a huge change!
Well done Nate. I always love me some Kara, but you did a wonderful job. Your explanation of the call to prayer was beautiful. Feel better Kara, you were missed❤
Beautiful Nate, you did a great job eventhough you mentioned you felt odd without Kara with you. You are so personable with everyone you meet! Hope you feel better Kara!
Love to see that you are both always positive thinkers - never judge a book by its cover. Loved this video - I had never heard of Brunei. Really do hope that Kara is feeling better - take care of yourself.
Naaah I chew my ambuyat. It doesn’t really do much but it kinda re-size/re-shape it to fit my throat 😂 Plus been eating it since I was little. Never heard the “no chewing” rule among the family. Or maybe there was but I was little and didn’t care 🤣. Thank you for the visit. Glad you enjoyed your brief stay. Unfortunate Kara didn’t get to join your experience/adventure. But hey, there’s always next time 😁 PS: Nate mentioning, remembering Kara on every activity is 🥹💖. I want that kind of relationship. Much love! 💝
I was lucky enough to have a layover in Brunei in 2010 and stay at that hotel the most luxurious one I’ve ever been in! And you are so right the people make a country. Loved it all 😊
The things these guys are doing for the world not only content wise but for both justice, culture, everything truly amazing keep up the wonderful work guys, spread the love ❤
@@willowthestaffie545 by remaking the same video with the same driver, who can only be contacted via WhatsApp that Josie gave on her channel, and copying her intro and outro basically word for word. Plenty of ways.
@@becorations1 explained it in a comment above. They basically followed her footsteps and even got her boat driver and went to his home. The boat drivers can’t advertise their details in brunei because only government tour operators are allowed legally to tour tourists. Josie has his details in her bio. It’s almost the exact same video but she did the boat first and Market last.
I once lived in Brunei for 11 years and love it so much. Sadly, there is no way for me to get their citizenship. I had plan a visit for the Hari Raya next year, cant wait to meet HRH The Sultan again.
Get well soon, Kara! Brunei is also in my bucket list. I visited a floating village in Tawi-Tawi called Sitangkai. It fascinates me and at the same time, the wooden walkways terrified me.
Glad you were able to give Kara the time to sleep and recover -- Nate you did a great job of conducting the visit and I'm very grateful you were able to show the kindness and welcoming spirit of the people.
It's a shame Kara wasn't feeling well, but Nate did such a good job vlogging despite things not going to plan. I honestly have no idea how you guys have so much energy to do everything you do! Great job!
I’m from Brunei & definitely a fan of your travel and van videos! Thanks for putting up nice words on Brunei people, but honestly we are mostly happy and grateful for the great and kind leadership who makes sure all of us are living comfortable.
Hi Kara and Nate, do come to Brunei again. You should visit Temburong, its a district where its mainly nature. Have a hike and go for a kayak ride, go to the longhouse and go to the tall tower and oversee the broccoli looking forest. Theres a small rock climbing activity as well. Its a nice experience. Visit serasa beach overlooking the sunset, its really nice. Also, you haven't been to the end part of the empire hotel where you can sit down and enjoy the ocean breeze. Also, visit one mall, let it be The Mall, Times Square or etc, just to get an experience of how different shopping malls are in other countries. Only on SUNDAYS, the city centre (town) of Bandar Seri Begawan, the roads are closed for people to run/jog/walk around town. Its Bandarku Ceria, its a platform for the government to encourage the people to be active and stay healthy. Theres a small animals exhibition, theres food and drinks stalls, theres vintage goods' stalls and its a great experience honestly. Also, go to one of the fancy restaurants (Kaizen) or any nearby restaurants in front of the Town's waterfront. And enjoy the scenery. P.S FRIDAYS at 11am-2/3pm, ALL shops in Brunei are closed for the Friday'prayer. I would suggest you to have some takeaways before the time and enjoy the nearly emptiness of the streets/roads lol.
Hopefully by now Kara you are feeling better. Nate did such a good job on the video, you will still get to enjoy this amazing experience. He looked lost without you ❤️ Thank you so much for sharing these beautiful places with us.
I am a South African expat teacher at the high school you showed in the water village. Can't wait to show the students that their school is on TH-cam! Thanks for coming to Brunei and showing it off to the world.

Hoping Kara is feeling better! Nate you did great even though it showed you prefer to have Kara with you.

Chrismas is not illegal. Its a public holiday in Brunei. Its just not celebrated in public spaces.
Thank you for clarifying this.
they clearly said christmas is not allowed to be celebrated in public tho sadly
Its true what he said. Its ilegal to celebrated in public spaces
@@Sentiumthey can celebrate it in private property etc its not illegal to celebrate it, people can come eating food in private property on christmas eve.
Theres even chrismas dinner promotions in restaurants during the chrismas public holiday.
Fantastic introduction about people being different than their governments. ❤
People are responsible for their governments. If the people didn't want it, they wouldn't have it.
@@Malc180sNot necessarily true. Look at America right now. Our govt is horrific the past couple of decades but we keep getting the same shit over and over. And do our votes really count anymore? It doesn’t feel like they do. We are becoming an oligarchy.
Definitely not true , have you ever heard of dictators, tyrants, or other such oppressive governments?
@@Malc180sI used to believe this was true until really digging into the mapping/gerrymandering here in the US. I can't speak for other countries, but there's been a concerted effort since our inception to discount the votes of certain demographics. Even if we had fair voting boundaries and no electoral college, the majority still doesn't represent _everyone_ . And as seen in our presidential elections, the count is usually split almost in half.
@@JasonBrownafewmomentsl8er Yup. And that’s the path we are heading down if it isn’t fixed soon. We are already spied upon by them.

Why Most people from other country always think Brunei is a bad country? 🤔 We are living in peaceful here without paying a tax and everything😄
Believe it or not but paying taxes or not paying taxes might not be the foundation of what everyone perceives as the highlight of individual happiness, but for people who enjoy it there, go for it.
bad economic longevity
huh? peaceful?? U better open ur mind widely
I find it beautiful and calming
I agree! I heard it for the first time in Jerusalem.

Kara dancing on the jet bridge never gets old, my cheerfulness meter goes up a few notches every time.❤
Also, Kara and Nate at the night market= iconic.

About 30 years ago I was working in dtwn Seattle and the Sultan of Brunei was in town for a meeting with world leaders. At the time I was listening to an old radio and the upper part of the dial would occassionally pick up cell phone calls. So how is he in your opinion

Of course you can.
Watching you connect with locals and immersing yourselves in different cultures is so enjoyable. It's during these experiences that you get to understand the essence of a place and its people. Thank you for letting us be a part of your journey and inspiring us to do the same.

Nate! Your editing skills on this left me in awe. You talk about the only 7star hotel in the world, and then show a shack on stilts that looks like it is about to fall into the river! The hotel room itself had to be so much better than staying with the family where you had no toilet! What a huge change!

Nate, I love the way you draw us in and encourage us to experience the journey with you. Great editing. Great job.
It’s a copy of someone else’s video. Sad they couldn’t give the credit. That’s capitalism I guess.
@@Jessicaaaaaaaait’s a travel Chanel how are they copying
@@JessicaaaaaaaaHow is it a copy? They flew there and filmed.
Love that with all your travels you have come to know the people of the country are not what their "leaders" are. A great reminder to all of us! ✌️💜
So sorry Kara was sick. Looks like she would have loved it. But Nate did a great job flying solo! Fun and passionate video, thank you.
Great job!
I just want to add that my favorite part was Nate's beautiful musing on the call to prayer.
I loved Brunei when I visited over 10 years ago! Such amazing people, so happy you two visited!
Brunei is a treasure trove of traditions! So lovely and nice people are living there! ☀️
Love this! Never heard of the Country before. Nate you did great! Hope Kara gets better, missed her energy.
Hopefully by now Kara you are feeling better. Nate did such a good job on the video, you will still get to enjoy this amazing experience. He looked lost without you ❤️
Thank you so much for sharing these beautiful places with us.
