    I think that is really cool. There are home refueling stations that one can buy. One could have two of the fuel cell devices and exchange one for the other when they run down.
    I think the system could be used in a more conventional looking motorcycle. There are already electric scooters and motorcycles out there. It might be a simple conversion to make them into fuel cell powered vehicles.

    It's a start, can't wait to see where it goes in the future, hydrogen power is 100% the way forward in my opinion. Needs quite a bit more power though and a good torque curve if it's gonna give thrills like a modern sports bike.

    • @TheSaltyAdmiral
      @TheSaltyAdmiral 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Johny40Se7en I can guarantee you it's not. Here's why: Inefficiency, pollution, safety and price.
      - Remember, on earth hydrogen is an energy carrier, not an energy source. Which means you have to use heaps of electricity to make it, at a conversion loss mind you, then back, with another conversion loss. *Imagine if we had to make all the oil before we could use it. That's what we currently do with hydrogen.*
      - It has to be stored and transported under high pressure, although not a huge risk, its nevertheless a risk you don't have with pure drive.
      - It's so insanely inefficient to produce hydrogen via pure electrolysis, it's bound to be produced a lot through chemical assistance, which has a carbon footprint from hell.
      - Whatever the price for electricity is, it's always going to be a lot cheaper than hydrogen, since it's made with that same electricity. Not even mentioning the cost of logistics and employees.
      The *only* upside of FCEV's compared to BEV's is the range issue, which most agree is a thing of the past in 10 years. We will not even be close to have a full hydrogen infrastructure in 20 years.
      So there is basically 1 advantage with hydrogen, which is soon to be eradicated, and 4-5 advantages to BEV's.
      Just ask yourself, and think what the market will prefer. When you can drive 1000km's on a half hour of charging, in your own garage, virtually free compared to gas/hydrogen pump prices. Who in their right minds choose hydrogen?
      *However*, hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe(just not here on earth) so one time in the future where we can harvest our resources in space, hydrogen is definitely the fuel of choice. We can literary harvest limitless clouds of hydrogen just floating around out there. But that is hundreds of years into the future, and we need an alternative to fossil fuels today.

    • @Toastmaster_5000
      @Toastmaster_5000 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Salty Admiral You're both right and wrong. When looking at traditional ways of producing and storing hydrogen, you'd be absolutely right. However:
      - Hydrogen in it's pure form burns much more quickly and efficiently compared to something like gasoline. It's a little difficult to get pure hydrogen through electrolysis. But, the pressure of a half-defalted party balloon filled with pure hydrogen can be used to power a 2HP engine. You could probably get more air pressure just from waving your hands. That being said, it takes so little to do quite a bit.
      - There are more ways to produce hydrogen than electrolysis. Electrolysis is just the most "renewable" method. Other methods involve acids but isn't renewable, its hazardous, and a pain to clean up. But, there's another method involving only gallium, aluminum, and water. This method is so effective it has, in some cases, completely obsoleted the need to store and transport hydrogen. None of the materials are particularly expensive, none of them are environmentally dangerous, and they're all renewable ingredients. The aluminum turns into an oxidized powder, which can easily be smelted back into plain aluminum, or can be used for thermite. Thermite in itself is a great material and uses very little external energy to use.
      Hydrogen has a future it's just a matter of how we utilize it. Creating it on-the-spot is dangerous and a little tedious since you can't easily stop it. Pure hydrogen is very explosive too, so if you can't properly control the flow, you'll damage the engine or worse. To me, it's a better method for something like power plants than vehicles.

      +Johny40Se7en This bike is more of a hydrogen-powered bicycle rather than actual motorbike. Electric motors are easily capable of the torque and thrills of a sports bike, but one must consider the bike in this video as an early, early alpha model.
      I cannot see hydrogen being 100% the way forward, because all we need is one decent battery breakthrough, and the upcoming cost reductions, and battery electric will become the obvious winner. It can be 'fuelled' anywhere there's a plug. As it stands, the process to make the fuel cell is highly arduous compared to simply plugging in and switching on, an infrastructure which can be expanded at minimal expense.

    • @Johny40Se7en
      @Johny40Se7en 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Will Davis Well, I meant what I said, look at hydrogen fuel cell cars like the clarity and so on, wonderful things. And regular batteries, no matter how efficient or advanced they are, will always need a slow charge that takes forever to recharge for a car to drive on, and the range is still shit and even if you did do a "fast" charge, it still takes a while and it damages the battery, makin' the life span much less.

    @Me102288 Agreed about the hho burnrate, I've built a generater that and yes, I know engines run on it although they do need very little oil mixed with the intake.
    Diesel on the other hand does not ignite with glowplugs. Glowplugs simply heat the air up inside the combustion chamber to help the engine start when it's cold.
    Gasoline very much does explode when there is an open flame although it's fumes will, like hho, when there is a spark. A LOT slower than hh2 agreed.

  • @L3GN5RW9

    I haven’t heard anyone discuss this, but I was wondering: Since hydrogen vehicles emit water as exhaust, could millions of hydrogen vehicles dripping water all over the road negatively affect driving conditions(especially below freezing)? This could be a big problem, but if it turns out not to be a problem, hydrogen would probably be the best environmentally-friendly fuel.

      ***** If I'm not mistaken hydrogen vehicles have a small tank to capture the water that is only emptied upon the press of a button. So when it's freezing you can just empty it somewhere it's not a problem.

      All combustion of hydrogen containing fuels produces water. Gasoline as a hydrocarbon thus produces water and you can see it dripping out of a tailpipe on cold days.

      Batteries are and always will be shit with too low energy densities, too heavy, too complex, too expensive (materials and manufacture), and too dangerous (batteries are becoming more bomb like with each iteration) is the problem.
      A better solution would be to get microbe produced biofuels up to snuff, it would recycle the carbon (which isn't really a problem in the first place, and in the second there needs to be loads of it out there for life and us to have building materials) and for common use doesn't require new tech that would just do the exact same job with the exact or near same restrictions as what we have now.

  • @krappies
    @krappies 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Me102288 Ok, that makes sense. I considered burning REALLY fast as exploding (which is wrong I know) :). When you run a diesel engine on parrifin (illegal but cheap) the engine get damaged, unless you mix oil into it. The fuel is to "dry" and the engine does not get lubricated as well. I suspect the same from hho since it will burn really hot and dry.
    Have you managed to get an engine to run on hho only?

      8 horse power on something that small isn't to bad... It will probably hit 25-30 mph I'd imagine depending on the weight of the driver. I could be wrong though but it really depends on the total weight of the bike and driver. But 8horsepower would probably equate to something like 100cc

    The major obstacle for this technology (hydrogen powered transport) is price. Maybe in 20 years it will be affordable. In that time I suspect electric/battery vehicles will have improved by leaps and bounds and will obviate the need for hydro fuel cell tech.

    Nice, even though it's not exactly fast it's so cool.
    Hydrogen really is the future if coupled with renewables.
    Think solar panels on your roof producing electricity which gets used to make hydrogen that gets stored in a tank, energy on demand but clean energy.

    Early days, but possibly a practical light commuter vehicle. Not a fair comparison with "proper motorcycles" because they are mainly used as leisure vehicles with the emphasis on speed, distance, or carrying capacity. Compare it with a conventional moped, and it looks a lot less silly.

    There are battery powered E bikes that blow that away, and you don't need non existent hydrogen fuel stations, just a wall outlet. For a bike you could even do a removable pack just as he did with the fuel cell. Hydrogen is an inefficient dead end.

    8hp is a completely different meaning when talking about motorcycles.
    a honda cb125e (125cc) is a 12HP bike, and can get me up to 110 km/h (roughly 70mph) Though, it struggles to keep it, 55 mph is no problem.
    so an 8hp electric bike should be able to do a about 60 km/h/37mph
    I'm just guessing here though. i have no idea about the specs of that thing.
