  • **************Tools used, in the description below*****************
    Decided to video a typical throwout bearing/clutch replacement pull. The whole job can take anywhere from 1-4 hours depending on your skill level and tool availability. I have pulled hundreds of transmissions, don't expect your first one to come out this quickly.
    Tools Used (not all necessary):
    1/4 Drive Snap-On Ratchet
    1/4 Drive Snap-On 10mm Socket(for battery terminal, 10mm box wrench does the trick)
    3/8 Drive Snap-On Flex Head Ratchet
    3/8 Drive Snap-On 3" Wobbleplus Extension
    3/8 Drive Snap-On 14mm Socket
    3/8 Drive Snap-On Electronic 14v Cordless Impact
    3/8 Drive Snap-On 10mm Impact Deep Socket
    3/8 Drive Snap-On 12mm Impact Deep Socket
    3/8 Drive Snap-On 14mm Impact Deep Socket
    Snap-On 14mm Open End Wrench
    Snap-On 12mm Open End Wrench
    Pittsburg 14/12mm 12 point slanted end wrench(used on the driveshaft bolts)
    Gear Wrench 14mm Ratcheting Box Wrench
    Snap-On 2ft Braker Bar
    Snap-On Hose Tool
    Snap-On Long Clip Tool
    Mac Push Pin Pliers
    1/2 Drive Pittsburg 30mm 12 point socket(for putting in back of trans)
    1/2-3/8 Snap-On Conversion (used to plug the 30mm socket)
    1 Can of PB Blaster
    Harbor Freight Pogo Jack
    Harbor Freight Transmission Jack
    Disclaimer
    It doesn't always go this easy. Even with this car, from a new unfamiliar customer, I had to deal with bolts that usually take 10 seconds to remove, and they ended up taking 5 mins, because someone installed the front pipe incorrectly. The dowel pins on the block were also slightly seized, but nothing too bad. Attempt at your own leisure.

    It would be awesome to get a response, but I am late to the party.
    The object you stuck into the tail housing, was that a plug you had on hand to stop the oil from leaking.. Or is that the a stub shaft that came off of the drive shaft?
    Also, how many miles were on that car that the throw out was so wrecked? I am getting some concerning sounds from my clutch area but the car only has 50k miles on it.

    • @theracersline2953
      @theracersline2953  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      1/2 Drive Pittsburg 30mm 12 point socket(for putting in back of trans)
      1/2-3/8 Snap-On Conversion (used to plug the 30mm socket)
      This car had around 60k Miles, which is typically the standard I am seeing for failure on these cars. The cause is from a poorly spec'd OEM bearing with grease that cannot handle any heat. The 2017 updated bearing is supposed to be a fix.

    • @nousernamesleft930
      @nousernamesleft930 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Racers Line
      That's awesome news (kind of) I have been feeling like the car has bee getting hard to drive and the bearing making some shitty noises.. I'm right at 60k miles too.
      Guess it's time to pony up and do the swap, thanks for the reply!

    • @peterwelsh6975
      @peterwelsh6975 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you ride the clutch you're killing clutch and throw out. Riding clutch makes lots of heat! Which kills throw out.

      Could you give a little more detail? I am doing mine right now. These two tabs simply rotate up an out of the way correct? Then you pull the rubber boot and pin off the back. Is there anything else I need to do to release the linkage? It's hard to tell how it all goes together by just feeling around. So far this job seems supper easy compared to others I've dealt with.

    • @ermax9054
      @ermax9054 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never mind.. I just took a look at the manual and see you simply rotate these tabs up and then a pin slides out. Why would anyone bother with taking the interior all apart? Mhh

    • @ermax9054
      @ermax9054 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      But you can't get that rear pin off the linkage without removing that boot. To remove the boot you have to take the interior apart. Yeah your video has omitted about 20mins of work. Hahaha

    • @theracersline2953
      @theracersline2953  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      David Hettena yeah the factory cast manifold...this is an aftermarket aluminum manifold worth 5x as much. I just would not do it. The stock manifold yeah sure, I’ve done it before. Aftermarket? No way.

    Nice workshop. But this is misleading to newies. Time should start from hoisting . Not from prying it out 👎🤓. Out and in with full clutch kit, takes me 3.2 hours inclufing 2 or 3 visits to the toilets.
