Andrew Tate Is Wrong About Marriage | Guest: Dr. Brad Wilcox | Ep 953

  • Today we’re joined by Dr. Brad Wilcox, professor of sociology at the University of Virginia and senior fellow at the Institute for Family Studies, to discuss the importance of marriage, the growing trend of polyamory in our culture, and his new book, "Get Married: Why Americans Must Defy the Elites, Forge Strong Families, and Save Civilization." We start off with an explanation of why so many are misguided about what marriage actually offers people and why the lie that Christian marriages are doomed to fail is perpetuated so often from both the Left and the Right. We look at the rise in media coverage and normalization of polyamory and discuss what this means for how people see relationships and sex, as well as its disastrous effects on children. Is married life really making us sad, and what do we lose when we, as a society, fear marriage?

You have no idea how much I'm told on social media that me relying fully on my husband financially will lead to ruin when he ultimately leaves me for another woman. What a sad sad view! We are Christians, and we've been happily married for 20 years. It's so unreal out there.

I guess I can only truly speak for myself: the reason I'm not married is because the mother of my child was completely brainwashed and turned against me. And when it comes to getting married and starting a new family I find it literally impossible to find a new woman. All I can do is focus on God and live my life.

Churches and Christian communities need to hold men and women accountable and equally responsible for their own actions. Neither sex should be given a pass or have a blind eye turned when sinning against members of the other.

So men can't have preferences? And are they to date or marry a so called "born again" christian girl/woman that in her younger years she has run through double digit of men, and now she wants to settle down? Or marry a christian woman that's controlling and thinks she'd like to remain virgin even after marriage - or when she feels she has enough kids?

For me it was realizing that I could love more than one person at a time and that exclusivity meant nothing to me. To me the value in a relationship is what we give one another, not in what we withhold from other people. To my mind, someone saying they will only ever have physical intimacy with me for the rest of their life is like swearing they'll never eat their favorite foods again to demonstrate their love to me. It just makes no sense - to me.

The problems in the culture cannot be resolved if it is not acknowledged. Every christian conservative should be able to see and acknowledge that there is a two tier legal system...and that includes disputes in marriage and divorce! Doesn't mean red pill is right about everything (they get a lot of things wrong because it is led by secularists), but courts being bias overwhelmingly towards women is hard to argue against. That's partiality and not equal weights and measures! It should make every Christian upset because it is unjust.

I'm a divorced, single mom (divorced because of domestic abuse). All these women talking about all they can do without kids is kinda laughable. I can pretty much do all those things now that my kids are older and they are with me the whole time. We go to the movies, we watch tv together, we play games, we go hiking, we spend a day at the mall, and when we're all tired, we go to our own rooms for alone time. There's nothing these childless peeps do that me and my daughters can't do. 🤣

We both have Jesus Christ as our Center and Source. At 72 years of age, we can say, Jesus wins over anyone and anything else! We recommend that anyone should begin a life of getting to know Jesus!

Promiscuity is not human nature. It’s our fallen nature. Beyond the obvious religious reasons, it. Just. Makes. Sense. It provides safety and stability that allows physical and mental health to thrive. We can deny it all we want, but from birth ALL of humanity thrives on safety and stability (Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and every child behavioral theorist supports this). Marriage is more than sex. It is a demonstration of acceptance, respect and honor. I can honor my spouse by not making them compete for me, supporting them emotionally and physically, and keeping them safe by not bringing danger to our bodies through strangers in our home and STDs. I don’t think it’s that complicated! Idk maybe I’m just crazy! 🤷🏻‍♀️

It's a question of risk assessment, which is far more favorable for women than men. That is not to say people should not get married, but if it fails, which it likely will, men are more likely to lose out financially, and if there are kids involved, forget about being given a fair shake.

Expectations by women that are unrealistic are what's being promoted on social media, not to mention the amount of cheating that gets found out. Of course, we all want to marry but what if you find someone at work that's maybe more attractive than your partner, maybe tells better jokes, and gives you fresh attention. Thats what men don't want to become their reality, not to mention the guys finding out kids aren't theirs. I wouldn't recover from that mentally

I didn’t graduate college and my dad has fallen into a deep depression after the divorce and lack of having someone to love. It is so sad the amount of divorces that impact the family and the people in them. I’ll be reading this book as soon as the Lord moves me out of my single season. If our lives were all about sexual satisfaction we would divorce every couple of months and move on to someone new when no one feels great and is tired and anyone over the age of 50 wouldn’t stay married . Sex is not everything in a marriage . It’s one factor of many in a happy marriage .

I don't think the idea of marriage is the problem. It's the paper contract which is nothing more than a show to prove to OTHER PEOPLE about some commitment.
Also that the Marriage Industry doesn't care about goodness but profit and will push for families to go for as much of an expensive wedding as possible under the guise of _"making it as special a day as it can possibly be"_ /.
Isn't commitment about the heart? And what if you're not religious? Who do you have to prove it to? There is only one person you have to prove it to and if it takes a piece of paper to do it then it's not worth the paper it's written on.
That being said Andrew Tate is not a good human being. He can have SOME good messages in his rhetoric such as trying to influence guys to become stronger in many ways such as working out and reading up on certain things which you know you will have a problem coming up against, yet his delivery just comes off as pre-scripted, disingenuous or just plain selling something.

There are 2 reasons that there are marriage licenses (maybe more). 1) Tax purposes. If you are married, you get tax benefits and tax breaks, but you have to prove that you are married. This is the same reason that we have birth certificates, and one of the reasons we have driver's licenses. 2) If you have a marriage license, the only way to break that is through annulment or divorce. If you don't legally get married, then your partner can just leave whenever they want. It is a way of keeping people accountable.
Do you really think that marriage licenses are a new invention? They were issued in Bible times to. The Old Testament Law says that a man is allowed to write a certificate of divorce to his wife if she displeases him. Jesus Christ said that Moses allowed men to write a certificate of divorce for a time because of their hardened hearts. My point is that if they had a certificate of divorce all the way back in Moses' day, then they must have had some sort of marriage license binding them legally.
That being said, I do agree with you that culture does pressure women to spend a ridiculous amount on a wedding instead of having a good quality marriage. However, nobody has to spend that amount on a wedding. There are people who go to the courthouse.
People who elope. People who have a diy wedding.

Dear redpill men (and brothers in Christ),
God knows all your fears and vulnerabilities. You must go to Him to seek out answers and discernment and comfort. No amount of dwelling on it apart from Him will satisfy. You must stop lashing out or being taken over with nihilism towards the very institution and image bearers He created. What is true and good in His eyes does not change. Attitudes of slander, malice, and hard heartedness are not of God. Instead, pray for your fellow human beings, man and woman alike, for the hold that sin has on them and how they harm each other. There is 0 implication of what you have to do in regards to your own marital relationships. But we all are called to live, feel, think, etc in a way that’s set apart and be the salt of the earth. Our heritage is one of people who have faced immense dangers and battles to stand for His Truth. If not us, then who else will be a living testimony that they might know a Love greater than they’ve ever seen?

I would like hear a citation on that study that christian's have better, and more sex - If this was the same study done BYU it was implemented by professors and only interviewed staff and students - and i don't believe the population does not closely represent a target population due to errors in study design (variables needed: independent, dependent, and controlled, which i believe none of these parameters were in place) or implementation, research bias results from any deviation from the truth, causing distorted results and wrong conclusions. Bias , including during data collection, data analysis, interpretation, or publication, and can occur in both qualitative and quantitative research. interesting other researchers wanted to study the conclusions of these finds, but BYU wouldnt turn the finding of the data over for review? which is pretty telling. The only reason they did this "Study" because they had agenda, and come hell or high-water it was going to look favorable towards christians.

If Christians are so absolute on the greatness of marriage I highly recommend that they unify every Christian woman in the US to march on Capitol Hill to undo the laws that are absolutely favored for women who have the option at any moment to choose to leave a marriage for any reason they want. Until then, most young men see it as an extreme risk to lose everything as a man to include access to your children on the promise of faith. Young men aren’t blind and can witness the pool of women they have to choose from and family divorce court can easily be looked up online to watch what a man goes through.
