All of Pall's puns at the end!!!! 🤣 And your DRESS with the spooky tropical fruits! 😍 How do designers make such perfect, adorable clothes??? I am excited to circle back around to this video in a few days because I am reading The Resort for my book club now and am approaching the halfway mark in it. I did not listen to what you thought of it yet, but I will be VERY interested to see what you thought after I finish it so we can compare notes 😆 I am back a few days later. The Resort was an okay read for me. I DEFINITELY understand what you are saying when you mention that both main characters have the exact same voice. Quite a few times I found myself stopping and wondering, "wait, whose perspective am I in right now again??" I felt that the writing was a bit cookie-cutter thriller and didn't offer anything really special or unique. I also did guess whodunnit pretty early on in the book (I placed a bet with myself that it would be that person and then as the book went on my suspicions only solidified). A couple of twists along the way did get me, but for the most part I guessed the main twists. While it is fun to be like "AHA" and guess twists ahead of time, I also like to be thrilled... and I wasn't really. Like you mentioned, even during harrowing and intense situations I somehow found myself to be a bit bored. Also, the book should have trigger warnings in the beginning. I would give The Resort three stars. It was just okay.
Wow, sounds like we REALLY felt the same for the most part...I was SO underwhelmed. I also felt like it would have been so much better in past tense...sometimes thrillers benefit from the immediacy of present tense to keep you in the moment, but with the theme of the past being so omnipresent (ha), I felt like the author NEEDED that half second delay of "it's too late, everything's already happened" to add to the peril since her own writing wasn't getting the job done, and she wasn't using the present tense to build the build the suspense effectively anyway. The idea maybe had potential, I'm always drawn to social media playing out in thrillers because it's such a new concept that it doesn't feel played out and I love the use of multimedia in thrillers especially, but this fell SO so flat. And don't let THAILAND down, there was a little judgement around the culture I didn't necessarily want to touch but it felt...icky. Oh, and did you guess all my outfits from Unique Vintage for Summerween???
@@LitCouture I actually didn't guess because somehow I must have missed the cute spooky section of their website!!! I tagged a bunch of normal dresses I could see you in, but didn't even see these adorable options that you found on their site 😔 (i think it's because I chose the "everyday dresses" option when I went on there. Now when I go on and choose "all dresses" I see the spooky ones mixed in!) And good point!! It did seem like the book had some unnecessary judgement about the Thai culture. I don't think it needed to be included.
Yes, I saw you were interested in it! It was really good, it took all the best from the cozy and thriller genres and really came up with its own quirky, unique little thing--- I definitely think it's worth checking out, and I can't wait to see what the author does next! I hope enough people pick it up to see it in the Goodreads Choice Awards, it feels a little like a dark horse but totally deserves the recognition!
And that is the CLOSEST I will EVER get to Ever After, so thank you so much! Shout it from the rooftops so they can hear you for the inevitable remake...wait, I take that back, that would be blasphemy and there should NEVER be a remake! But thank you so much for watching and I hope you enjoyed! 💕
