I have 2 of these, and early with the leather pouch and a later with the woven pouch, the earlier appears to be made a little bit better.. Both are nice and work well.
I have both. My dad passed down his older, USA made OT. I'd take the OT over the Buck any day. It's a slimmer profile. The blade lockup feels stiffer, more solid, and straighter. The handle feels better and less blocky. It just "feels" better quality than the Buck, which I know hurts some feelings....
Wish I had bought one back in the day! Funny how this style of "Buck knife" is considered traditional now. It was introduced in the mid 1960s, so the 'folding hunter lock back' era was pretty short actually.
I am definitely more drawn to single or twin blade traditional knives which thanks to you I have learned my reasons as to why.i also like the lanyard whole so I can fit a pocket clip.great video atb paddy.
Love mine. Interesting difference, though. My lockback pin is a domed screw. Odd, because it's always been that way. It's age and use has made the thread tightness loose. Looking for a new 60T Old Timer screw .. brought me here. I can't imagine its lockback pin ever being brass. No prior wear indicating a sintered pin was ever in there. Interesting. Mine is at the least .. 17 to 18 years old.
It's similar in size, but there's really only one Buck 110. They're known to be a good knife and some may favor them, but these really aren't the same thing.
I got a mint brand new one of these in clam pack with sheath:) NICE knife:)ha ha.. damn you:) but at least its a very good USA made knife..LOL $29.99 VERY nice knife:) how does this compare in size from lb7 or lb8 size? also my stock sheath is different then yours as belt loop id part non the sheath:) not sewed on out side.
Sorry! lol. I'm excited for you, a brand new clam pack 6OT that is at least 13 years old! I think that is a good price too, for a brand new USA Schrade folding hunter that will never be made in the states again. Now that's nice! I bought both my sons 34OT's new in the clam packs as gifts one year and they thought that was cool. As for the size... If I'm not mistaken I think they were all 5" long. I'll hold the 6OT and LB7 side by side tomorrow and let you know. I didn't get a sheath with mine so I bought some off ebay. I have both the slotted sheath like yours and the sewed one. I wasn't positive what one went with it (but I do now!). Great find!
I wish I could find one of these American made examples without having to pay and arm and a leg for it. I have a Chinese 6OT. In comparison to it's American made rival, it's a shoddy piece of shit. The blade slaps the left liner when you close it.....the shield fell out of it in the box it came in......rough transition spots between the delrin and the bolster. It's a useable knife, but not remotely as well made as the knife shown in this video.

I had a lot of Old Timer knives but never this one, but I’ll bet took a bite out of Buck’s 110/112 business.

A great no frills working knife . How I miss those U.S.A.tang stamps.

Schrade u.s.a. rest in peace . You are missed .
Sadly I've had less issues with the china made Old Timers than with usa made Buck knives lately.
Liked back piece brass old old timers.

Thank you paddy, I love those pocket clips too. I have one on my key chain also.
Can I get a link for the pocket clip in the lanyard hole?
Personally I love those old timer sawcut scales.
A little piece of history
Good review and nice knife
Thank you 40belowful!
Have the 6ot golden Bear love it.
Hi, i bought this knife on the internet and i like it very much
Can you post a video on showing how to make your lanyard.
The lack of a rear bolster did indeed lighten the knife and at least in my eyes made a more attractive knife .
I actually carry one of these and i use it for everything
I have that knife I love it but I thought it was older. I always find it take a bit to get a good edge , but once I got one it seemed to stay sharp.
Had the same problem with my grandpas it’s from the 80s but even when It’s just getting an edge she falls off

Awesome!
Is the knife blade heavy in the open position because of the single bear head bolstering?
I don't really notice much difference myself. Maybe just a tiny bit.
What is value of Golden bear 6ot
A little rust in the nail nick on this I need to take care of. Some times these used knives get little places like that that are stubborn to get off.
The current Taylor / BTI Tools stuff is not actually horrible, but it just doesn't compare and the color of the sawcut delrin is just plain horrible.
Is this an equivalent to a buck 110?

Closer to the Buck 112.
Mine carbon steel.
