As someone who grew up in mountains from Missouri to Mississippi and I can support most of these stories but there is a lot that is missing like the wood witches I have some crazy stories from getting lost in the woods and taken in by them it's crazy out there and different and there is for sure things happening there that can't be explained

    • @amandabourke796

I've heard of "Wood Helpers" who help older members of the mountain community with tasks like cutting firewood and heavy labor. They were described as the size of a four year old, but hairy all over with large hands and feet. I heard they accept beer as payment. Are wood witches similar to these beings?

@amandabourke796 I have seen these before they lived close by the wood witches according to the wood witches they are where story's of leprechauns come from and the best way I can explain them is tiny lumber jacks I seen a few they works for animal skins good and jewelry etc what I saw was them helping with heaving lifting plant harvest and general labor they are hairy but not all over but again idk some could be I only ever saw two BUT I know this don't stare at them they get mean when you do

i’ve lived in the foothills of the ozarks my whole life. the woods change at night, the energy is vastly different. the land is old, and there are things here that will make sure you know they don’t want you there if you accidentally trespass. the one and only time i visited one of my friend’s homes, far from town and surrounded by woods, something prowled the edges of the trees and kept setting out things for us to hurt ourselves on to try and chase us away. my cousin stepped on a nail, and i got very lucky by trusting my gut and checking a chair i had just been in, that now had a rusty four-pronged fish hook sitting dead center

I lived in a haunted house at ages 9-10 (around 6 months) with bone chilling events I can't really explain and even STILL aren't sure if I believe in ghosts or not (I find it kind of entertaining to hear other's stories) but when it comes to actual creatures like Skinwalkers... I don't doubt it for a second. There's something about the stories I've heard from people and the look in their eyes as they tell them that just chills me. When I tell my stories, I do so with an inkling of excitement at the fantastical. The stories they've told me they've done so reluctantly, as if trying to forget.

    @deestacey2051 ปีที่แล้ว +15

The first story... it sounds like creepy pata written by someone who has never lived or hunted in the Ozarks.
    1. You don't hunt deer by walking through the woods. They will hear you. And while they are active at night, they will see you before you see them and run.
    2. Loading a crossbow takes a bit of work. You do it before you start your hunt. You wouldn't have time to do it after the deer is spotted, especially not if you are carrying an additional rifle with you.
    3. A deer stuck in the heart drops dead. It doesn't live long enough to be put out of its misery.
    4. A grown man would have a hard time carrying an adult male buck out of the woods on his shoulders.
    5. Bison are Prairie Animals. There aren't prairies in the Arkansas Ozark mountains. The only bison are on private farms, not wandering through the woods and over the hiĺls.
    6. Mountain lions or cougars were thought to be eradicated in Arkansas from the 1920's until the early 2000's. As of 2015, there were only an estimated 200 cougars that had come back, according to Arkansas Fish and Game. The kid would have more luck finding a wandering bison than he would stumbling across a cougar.
Its really disappointing to be excited to hear stories from the Ozarks and realize they're made up by folks who don't have a clue.

From the people that track dogman sightings say that they came from France originally, and have proliferated in the mountains, spreading out across the countryside with the rest of communities. Good thing he could draw his crossbow back in time and the deer didn't move and that they carried two weapons to hunt with.

That's kinda what you get for shooting an innocent animal that wasn't even doing anything to you, just minding its own business! Not only that, but shooting it for no reason, just enjoyment! And I have absolutely no problem with hunting, I actually support it. But just indiscriminate joy-killing like that means you're not right in the head.

Man this is something i hate about local cryptid stories.
I just hear a story about some local monster that i've never heard about, think "cool, spooky design and all, neat, i wonder what other cool local myth about monsters this region of the world has!"
    Next stories:
    "Bear with horns"
    "Ozark Howler"
    "Ozark Bear
"Giant black bear with red eyes that has a distorted scream"
"Evil hell bear that screams and sounds leik ur mom''

I currently live in the woods of Northern California and I can promise you any howling you hear is not a coyote or a fox and definitely not a cougar because none of these animals howl. Coyotes Yip, foxes do some weird little thing I don’t even know what to call it And cougars growl and hiss so any howling you heard was either a wolf or a dog man

I lived in the Ozarks for about 15 years. I told my wife after she asked what a noise was you didn't hear anything you didn't see anything. Then I turned the music up a little more and turned the lights down.

    (1) as a new resident of the region, I can opine that the Ozarks, being a mountainous region that crosses Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma - is an area of low education attainment and an even lower level of enlightenment and interest in exploration of new ideas
    (2) trust me that no one in this area willingly uses the metric system, so in the 1st vignette, the narrative including a reference to the story’s protagonist using the metric scale as a unit of measurement, totally invalidates the basis of the tale… just sayin
