- Most people don't want to even touch a Pickerel, let alone eat one! They are in fact pretty good with a firm mild tasting white meat! If you don't want to deal with picking bones from the meat or cutting bones out from the fillet try out a simple pickling recipe. No need to remove the y-bones as the pickling process with almost dissolve them and turns into a super delicious wintertime snack! Try it out and you will be pleasantly surprised!

Great video bro
This is Such a good video ! Clear and simple ! That looked so tasty ! Thank you so much !
Thank you for your comment, glad you enjoyed the video!
Great job...thanks
Thank you!
Dude, great video. I am on day 3 of the process right now. So 2 more days in the brine then on to the pickle. On a side note, I saved the roe, cleaned it, salted it, rested it for 24 hours, rinsed them and lightly salted them again, see where I'm going with this, lol.? That's right caviar. Turned out way better than I expected.
Save the stripe bass ...eat pickerel. Nice video. I like pickled herring will give this a try then.
If you have your own pickling recipe use it with pickerel.
N-E Fishing I’ll try the receipt on the video looks good.
@@ReinaldoMiguel make sure you have about another 1lb of fish more than what I had or cut the vinegar and sugar down by a third of the amount or you'll end up with a lot of extra pickling solution. I ended up with enough solution to fill another jar with just the liquid. You can always just pickle more vegetables if anything.
Great video! Do you have a link to the recipe you used?
I don't have a link to it, I took several things from different recipes to make my own. That's the good thing about this, you can tweak to your taste, don't have to follow a pickling recipe exactly. I started using half the sugar from this recipe and I think it came out better as a result.
@@NEFishing gotcha. I just added the pickling spice, vinegar and wine. Waiting 5 days. I lowered the amounts as I didn’t use that much fish. About 2.6 cups of vinegar, 2.3 sugar, 2 tablespoons of wine and pickling spice.
@@DMBGoProFilms let me know how it comes out, def one of those things you have to play around with a little for your preference
@@DMBGoProFilms I really like that this is a great use for pickerel, hope you enjoy it! You can put the pickled fish on plain crackers, toast, or enjoy it as a little snack with a beer!
so does the fish ever get cooked or is it cured by the vinegar so it doesnt need to be cooked im unfamilkiar with how pickling works
The acid cooks the fish
I've been looking for something to do with these guys, so many of our lakes are infested up here in NS!
they are very tasty, gotta try one!
