Just saw Herb Alpert in concert last Saturday at Cal State Northridge. Great show and everyone came away smiling and full of joy and hope. Thank you Mr Alpert for many years of great music and great memories!

Herb Alpert is a legend and the rest of the Tijuana Brass are as well. The late great Nick Ceroli was one of the very best drummers on the West Coast and Bob Edmondson was a phenominal and respected trombonist....have not heard from him lately but I hope he is doing great!

Started by Edward Harper as a wireless broadcasting experiment during the war, to entertain British forces which later was handed over to Government of Ceylon. Spanish Flea, Brasilia, Tijuana Taxi and many more of Herb Alpert hits were regular features of their programmes, 'Music At Day Break' and 'Music With Lunch'. This vid takes me down memory lane!

I was shocked, around 1971, to learn that Herb Alpert forgot how to pay the Trumpet. Some kind of mental block kicked in. I am convinced that concerts like this, in which his band is not playing at all, but performance-syncing to a recording, led to that condition. I have found several such "concerts" on TH-cam, and it is unsettling. I bought a legal copy of the song above. The studio recording is being played with this "concert". Great music, but when they fake it, they break it.

I love Herb Alpert. It's was made back in a time when beauty and music were more intimately acquainted. Today's music has value, but you can't say it's beautiful. On another note, this video could not be made today, as there's a bull about to be killed. Our society is so sensitive about animals, but we can have a year of cities burning, riots, assaults, beatings, murders, full term babies abortions, truckloads of children being found... And yet this video would be impossible success today because a bull died.
