  • Well, I finally found a Standard Gauge train that I could afford! Lionel number 8, with a number 35 Pullman car, and a number 36 Observation car. Made a few repairs and got some track. Now let’s run them! #ogaugetrains #toytrain #lionel

Your appreciation for old/antique train items is obvious, as these items are brought back to a serviceable second life for all of us to, once again, enjoy.
    Thank you! 🚂

I always enjoy seeing less common trains like that beautiful standard gauge.

Marx guy here, well done, it`s great to see such vintage back on the rails again. Savage, restore, and love them.

I wouldn’t want to try and collect that scale, I’d go broke!

That was very ingenious the way that you fix those passenger cars. Thinking outside the box!

I was telling one of the guys at the train club what I used for the windows, he said “I have several sheets of replacements”. I think I’ll ask him about it next time.

What an excellent item to pick up, and just in the right condition too.
For me, standard (wide) gauge is remarkably good value for money.
Yes it's easy to think of a state set or blue comet, but if you're after a fantastic example of wonderful toy trains, you don't have to go past the very reasonable small to mid size products by Lionel, flyer or Ives.
They're all superb runners, look very good (lots of brass trim, rich paint etc) and have a remarkable presence that other sizes just don't have.
I could also add something a little obtuse here: they're a part of history as well. When a child was playing with those 30 series cars, Lindberg may yet be crossing the Atlantic. Dad and Uncle were on to this new thing they'd heard about: some stock market on wall Street. Al Capone was heavy in the news, and the new home crystal sets were playing the sound of ragtime.
Anyway, great video and a wonderful set. And I love your pragmatic approach to things: your photocopied stain glass: works fine, and looks the part. Keeping it real. The combo latch coupler with the slot was the first year classic period, early to mid twenties

Thanks for your comment. This is a set my grandfather would have played with (if the great grandparents hadn’t considered toys impractical). I really enjoy these very old toys!
