  • This video is about ,How to Grow Lettuce in Containers.
    Tips for beginners ,
Lettuce is very easy to grow.
Prepare seed trays. You can start your lettuce seeds in store-bought seed trays or make your own out of an old egg carton, box or newspaper.
Sow the seeds 4-6 weeks before the last spring frost. This will give them time to germinate and sprout before the ground gets soft enough to plant them outside.
Give the seeds plenty of sunlight and water. Place the tray in a sunny window and keep the growing medium moist at all times.
Transplant into the garden. The earliest you can transplant your seedlings is two weeks before the last spring frost date.
Fertilize the lettuce three weeks after transplanting. Use alfalfa meal or slow release fertilizer that is rich in nitrogen.
Cut mature leaves. When the leaves look mature enough to eat, resembling lettuce leaves you'd buy in the grocery store, cut them with a harvest knife or scissors.
Store harvested lettuce in the refrigerator. If you don't eat your lettuce right away, you can store it.

I have containers that are identical to those. Is it ok to grow food in then?

This is a cheaper container I had used , I didn't have any more garden once at the moment , I wouldn't recommend these , unless you have no choice , they said it's better to use garden containers and they are much safer and reusable..

Right to the point and affordable. Is there a specific kind of soil that works best? I also want to keep the fertilizer inexpensive and natural too. Thoughts on using ground eggshells mixed with old coffee grounds when growing lettuce?

Lettuce grows best in loose soil with good drainage ( I would say any soil you have or can afford , just make sure your containers have lots of holes for draingage and air ( use coffee grounds and lots of water works good ) if you have home compost that's perfect too , don't need eggshells ,that's more of a calcium source .. ( good for plants like , tomatoes , peppers , squash , zucchini )

@@Greentgarden I'm in Central Florida so it's already hitting the 90s. 🥵 The patio where I grow is covered, exposed to only the morning sun and I've always had great success with herbs so I'm hoping mulch & staying on top of watering keeps things cool enough for lots of lettuce too. I saw your other videos about the coffee grounds. Great info - got a new subscriber.

    My roots rotted out 😫

Oh no sorry to hear that..
Try to replant and keep in a cooler spot..
The one thing that would comes the lettuce you have to try to control the water. Make sure it doesn't dry out or too much water..
Also try a root rot treatment organic one on Amazon.. make sure your containers have extra holes for more airflow too very important.. you got this... 🙏🏾🌱

I’m going to repot it today! I left them in my living room because my balcony gets full sun but I may put it outside until the chair so it can get partial shade and air flow! Wish me luck!
