Not a paint maker either (just putting this here because it is fairly high up): The clove oil is for preservation, but it doesn't make it more lightfast or archival in that sense. What it does do is repell mould and other critters that might like to munch on the paint (gum arabic and glycerin is edible after all). Clove oil is one of the best antiseptics and anti-fungals there is, been known about for centuries.
I really liked that eyeshadow thing! For anyone curious: The same technique was used in the Middle-ages by scribes and monks for their miniatures in bibles or other books, but instead of glycerine and the other thing they used egg white as a binder, or (if I remember correctly) the bladder of a specific bird. Pigments came from a lot of places, e.g. minerals, blue colours were hardest to come by and thus reserved for images of royalty or saints. I could go on and on, my mum's an expert on medieval art (she's an artist herself), so I picked up a few things here and there, but I don't wanna make this comment too long. :D There's a lot of amazing history behind this modern version of using the pigments in eyeshadows, but the technique is pretty much the same. I'd love to see you exploring it in future videos!
For the paint mixing you need a roughed up glass (for example with sandpaper) and the glass to mix it she used also had a roughed up surface That way they break up the pigment clumps more and the pigment mixes up better with the binder The better it's mixed the more opaque the colour gets means it can be this strong that you can't look through the glass anymore just as a hint for future videos ^-^ Also I know some also use honey in their binder

The tissue water hack would be better with a cut sponge, eventually the tissue will disintegrate and create bits of paper in your brush and lumps in your paint
The cheating art stuff really makes me boil XD only when they try and act like they’re actually making original and hard art pieces that takes people hours otherwise. Like tracing is a cop-out. Using it to learn is a great tool but claiming you don’t trace when you do is not okay
I agree I thibk that using that digital art hack is good for practicing and improving but not for original pieces or claiming it to be 100% theirs cause it makes people who do digital art work look “fake” or “easy” from these hacks when rlly they spend lots of time :(
Btw I make handmade watercolors, the clove oil doesn’t make pigments more archival or lightfast. It’s a preservative that helps keep your paints from molding if they stay wet for too long because glycerin and gum Arabic can mold when wet.
Disposing of the tissue water is also a problem (in addition to getting tissue bits in your paint). I foresee clogged sinks. Maybe use a cotton rag and hang it out to dry afterwards? Or just do it the old way 😂
Could u try out maybe food art.... just an idea I thibk u would be rlly good 😌 like decorating cakes in an arty style, ofc one being a bear/stary night
If you trim a brush, you’re cutting off the tapered ends of the hairs, so you’re not going to get a smooth application. It’d be fine for thick paint, but not great for watercolour etc.
I feel like the eyeshadow trick would also be great for when your eyeshadow palette broke but you still want to use it in some way. Because then you don‘t have to throw it away, as there are still the pigments.
You can usually fix it by grinding it up and pressing it back with some rubbing alcohol. You can even buy kits for it. It is a great idea if you don’t like the eyeshadow though.
13:55 that "hack" makes me so damn mad. If you're doing it for fun, that's fine, but if your doing it for commissions and to genuinely do art you better be stating it's not hand drawn.
Hey chloe, I've been really into the pigment mixing community and the reason they used scratch glass and the hand grinder is to really break up the pigment and incorporate it into the binder! It still worked well for your method but if you ever come back to it it's a really cool little community!
You can also use the eye shadow pallets to mix into resin/epoxy and I would try a baby wipe or small piece of towel in the jar of water to clean my brushes so it doesn't shred into little bits.
I think for the Photoshop one, it's ok if you call it photo editing. Questionable if you call it drawing. But I could see myself using it for cool photo effects for using in my art journal or scrapbook.
I completely agree with that picture shading “hack” i think it could be used very purposefully for good as an easy way to block out highlights and shadows of a reference separate to ur own drawing or for fun but i don’t think it should be used as a way for people to pretend art and commission it and if its used for commissions should be explicitly said its not hand drawn art.
The paint making hack is essentially a very basic way to make watercolor paint. There are some other ingredients that many paint makers use along with the gum Arabic and glycerin. The ratios are important too. If you get the binder right it makes some awesome watercolor paint that will dry nice and be able to be re wet.
Rocks are cheaper and easier to buy in places like Home Depot and Lowe's - Home improvement stores. They're sold for landscaping. I don't know about countries other than the US but I bought my last batch for a fraction of what you'll pay off Amazon.
I would love to see a video about turning old eyeshadows into paints. I've previously used old eyeshadow to make a texture medium, but never thought to mix in a binder.
I think that anyone who cheats, in any way, has to live with themselves. Personally, I wouldn’t want to *pretend* to be an artist, I want to *be* an artist.
Buy a paint puck from Amazon for your brushes. You'll absolutely love it! Because, the tissue or paper towels, whatever you use will fall apart and get into your brushes. No bueno.

@@nery4962 well for 1 this is not drawing sketching or painting in anyway at all this is literally just making a grainy layer on top of a photograph, so people who are trying to pass that off as art its wrong its not its basically a photo filter so this is not the art they make it out to be (imitate) 2 for the girl chole viewed on tiktok use professional photography images which is an art form and that has copyright to the owner of the photograph (i.e the person who took it). so this is putting a filter over someone else work and passing it off as a drawing/painting so that is falsifying this thing as a legitimate piece of work. its cheating because it lying and no actually doing the art, while the rest of us artists spend years to develop a genuine skill, and with people already out there stigmatising digital art which again is a skill are making harder for artist to be recognised for their worth and continuing this attitude of oh its just a drawing, oh i dont think thats worth that much, oh its digital so its not real, and this goes on and on towards artist and people who are trying to earn a genuine living to survive of a skill that they have learned and developed over years and years of practise, so to have people do this shit and pass it off a legitimate is like a slap in the face and its not okay

I really love your work and this video was so fun as always. The "hack" with the photo is full of fraud and I hate hacks like that because I hear from some people that they have hand drawn it, if they just use it as a cute effect I actually think it's fun
I actually did that "questionable" hack, with the masking layer. I was asked to do a poster for a band's performance in a local bar, and all they had were these very static publicity photos. So I used this technique to jazz them up a little, and make a visually interesting poster. Here I was, stuck with some photos of some very bored looking twenty-somethings staring blandly into the camera, I had to think of something :) And it worked very well. I think that was a legitimate use of the technique. It really helped me out. BTW, this was about 10 years ago, and I thought of it myself, after a lot of trial and error. I thought it was pretty creative at the time :) I didn't pretend I actually drew them :)
...don’t you have a brush cleaner for the bottom of your glass? Shaped like a hockey puck with knobbly bits? I could have sworn I’ve seen you using them, and then there’s less tree / tissue waste.... (kinda seems like “environmental sustainability” has to be a part of the review, right?)
The eyeshadow paint could be really helpful if you need a skintone paint and you have "nude" eyeshadow. (I don't know anything about makeup, I'm only assuming that nude eyeshadow is a thing, so don't yell at me if it isn't.)
In the second one you can use a dish rag which won't fall apart and would be reusable. I also have one of those little rubber face scrubbers that I stick to the inside of my water cup when painting with acrylic and it helps a lot.
13:36 "how to pretend like you're good at drawing" I personally don't have a problem with this. It's not so much a drawing hack and more of a Photoshop hack tbh. I think that its perfectly fine as long as the person using the hack isn't being dishonest about the methods they used to create the final image. I've seen people do this and claim to have created the portrait from scratch, which is very frustrating especially when they try to sell them to others.

Btw I make handmade watercolors, the clove oil doesn’t make pigments more archival or lightfast. It’s a preservative that helps keep your paints from molding if they stay wet for too long because glycerin and gum Arabic can mold when wet.
It also smells nice if you aren't allergic to it like I am.

As a shielder I can relate to this, made me belly laugh 🤣❤

Disposing of the tissue water is also a problem (in addition to getting tissue bits in your paint). I foresee clogged sinks. Maybe use a cotton rag and hang it out to dry afterwards? Or just do it the old way 😂
Her: “Oh no there is actually more on this brush”
Me: you just dipped it back into the wet paint...🤦♀️

If you trim a brush, you’re cutting off the tapered ends of the hairs, so you’re not going to get a smooth application. It’d be fine for thick paint, but not great for watercolour etc.

@@doubtful_seer Haha digital nursing home 🤣 What a hilarious description!
Your "cheating" one I saw a girl on a FB group trying to sell commissions that looked just like that.

I use a cut sponge dampened in a scrubby holder to help wipe away the last of the paint.
Oh,the sanitising. So relatable. I seem to breathe more sanitiser than oxygen at this point.
I saw a meme once that said: I'm using so much sanitizer, I clean the toilet with every go. LOL
Thanks for another fun video! These are always so enjoyable to watch
"Why did they smooth them for me? I wanted to smooth them myself..."
No bueno.
No worries, Chloe. My family and I literally sanitize everything that comes through the door.
glad it's not just us who still do it a year later hahah
We still do this but we also have to shower when we come inside as well as having two separate washing baskets one for the contaminated outdoor clothes one for the indoor stuff. I get why we do it as I as well as my sister are immunocompromised and my elderly grandma also lives with us so we have to protect her as well, it a bit of a pain in the ass though.
@@stoirmdraodih6810 Yeah, taking all these extra steps can get really exhausting. But thinking about why we do it and the what-ifs just helps us stay diligent. I think it's really cool you're keeping things safe for your family despite the fact it's a huge pain.

At 9:35 I think Chloe’s brush touched the paint a bit. That may be why there was more paint on the tissue water one! Also, I love when You do art hack testings!!
Instead of tissues I use an old rag as it is reusable and has texture which cleans better for my oil paint brushes also I add some dish soap to aid in the cleaning especially when using oil paint.
Yay new video !! We missed you on Wednesday !! Xxx
for the fake drawing hack i think its totally okay for personal use but commercial use is a no no. Love your vids!
Some of these were pretty cool. I might try the tissue in paint water trick and paint from eyeshadow. I do think the layer mask trick is a good practice for people new to art or digital art because it's so simple and seems encouraging to keep learning, I think. Thank you for sharing, Chloe!
i think the art hack on procreate like is okay for yourself and free art it does look like a fun little abstract effect but i would not class it as drawing or painting i would say it fits as a photo filter and thats all, and yes it could be harmless but i know there are people out there trying to use and sell this as legitimate, really just scamming people
@@nery4962 ok this is clearly your first day on earth, right?
@@nery4962 dude chill, I just think that everyone should know that copying others work and selling it as your own isn't good, but maybe it's different on your planet
Your hair is really pretty in this video! I love how you styled it! Also, I think Rae also did pretty much the same thing as that last hack to make her own oil paint and she used that round glass looking object seen in the tik tok and I think it’s to make it more smooth and a lot less chunky.
8:40 for this hack it would be more environmentally friendly and cheaper to use a small rag that you could reuse
The paint out of eyeshadow hack sounds good! I have many palettes with colours which I don't use so I want to turn those colours in paint!

I love to see and try what I can do with different kind of mediums, traditional and digital. So that hack is for me, something to try even just for fun. I can see how somebody can make original art with that (full or part of something), but the key is openness of the process.
R.i.p paintbrushes your sacrifices will be remembered
her fancy lil braids are so cute!
Do u like doing pencil/coloured pencil drawing cause you mostly do paintings (which I love!) just wondering :)

I like the cracks and holes in rocks. I think it gives them character. Also I can add to their design with those sometimes. But I can see why someone would want to get rid of cracks

I really love your work and this video was so fun as always.
The "hack" with the photo is full of fraud and I hate hacks like that because I hear from some people that they have hand drawn it, if they just use it as a cute effect I actually think it's fun
Oh my God her hair and style has changed so much in four years
9:39 *dips brush back in the paint* "oh no theres more on this paint brush" XD
I actually did that "questionable" hack, with the masking layer.
I was asked to do a poster for a band's performance in a local bar, and all they had were these very static publicity photos.
So I used this technique to jazz them up a little, and make a visually interesting poster.
Here I was, stuck with some photos of some very bored looking twenty-somethings staring blandly into the camera, I had to think of something :)
And it worked very well.
I think that was a legitimate use of the technique. It really helped me out.
BTW, this was about 10 years ago, and I thought of it myself, after a lot of trial and error. I thought it was pretty creative at the time :)
I didn't pretend I actually drew them :)
I think it is something that you can do for fun
And I think you should do more art hack videos. You are one of my favorite TH-camrs of all of youtube.
Plot twist: the rocks she ‘found outside’ we’re from her neighbour’s porch

Chloe, your hair looks absolutely fantastic in this video! Ah, love this style on you it’s so pretty 💖💖
2:35 I think that the rocks Chloe bought were supposed for rock skipping. The way hey are flat and smoothish.
Omg the TikToks from 18:05 and 18:23 xD
Horrible but your commentary is hilarious 🤣
I wouldn't call the procreate thing "drawing" as opposed to a good skill of photo editing.
I love the account that makes the watercolor paint out of eyeshadows. Its one of my favs.
...don’t you have a brush cleaner for the bottom of your glass? Shaped like a hockey puck with knobbly bits? I could have sworn I’ve seen you using them, and then there’s less tree / tissue waste.... (kinda seems like “environmental sustainability” has to be a part of the review, right?)
I was wondering if having a cloth instead of tissue would work. The cloth wouldn't dissolve like the tissue did
@@calandr4 apparently a cloth would be a better option as it wouldn't shred and can be washed
Chloe’s reactions to all these hacks is just.....hilarious!

The eyeshadow paint could be really helpful if you need a skintone paint and you have "nude" eyeshadow. (I don't know anything about makeup, I'm only assuming that nude eyeshadow is a thing, so don't yell at me if it isn't.)
What a GREAT idea!!
Fun watching as always, I like the eyeshadow to paint idea and might give that a try sometime.
