I almost cried when Zach said Eugene looked strong, that was such a sweet moment. It's nice to see both of them where they are now given how hard it's been in the past
I actually cried and I agree... That was sweet and it is amazing to see such differences in those two photos being acknowledge by Zach. Being able to express yourself and who you trully are with close friends is such an empowering moment, especially when they recognised themself the fact that you have grown stronger because of your experiences and congratulate you for being who you desire to be and the difficulties you had to encounter. Absolutely. *My* parents got divorced when I was in middle school, and my mother took me and my brother back to her home town. I knew no one there, I was just hitting puberty, and I seemed to have lost the ability to make new friends. So I would just sit against the fence at recess and cry. But now I can imagine my current self sitting down next to that little girl and telling her it'll be okay, I understand everything she's going through, and she's going to have a really weird and amazing life one day.

Ok so Eugene story is very powerful. But no one is mentioning Zach’s. Mental Health is very difficult to talk about and for Zach to say that he wants to accept it especially being aware of it now is beautiful.
I think its because zach has talked about his issues before whereas eugene never really has, plus its very rare for asian men to talk about mental health or really anything deeply emotional.

Everytime Eugene talks about being sad when he was younger, it gives hope that I'll not be the way I am now, when I'm older.

Its really heartwarming watching Eugene try to recreate his passive, closeted, sad memories and then be like "okay that's fine let's go take shirtless photos of me somewhere else." Like it's obvious that he's grown so much and I think that's really sweet.
And I loved his story about the teacher who understood him and changed his life. At least a couple of teachers did the same for me, and I'm sure most of the rest of you had someone like that in your lives. Nothing beats a good teacher.

Everything Eugene tells us about his backstory is just heartbreaking. He is such an amazing and inspirational person now, and I know his past has helped form that, but I really wish he hadn't gone through all that.
What's heartbreaking? That's his problem if he's insecure for liking dudes. I relate. I have a few people I talk to, but I'd rather call them people I talk to rather than friends cause I don't wanna seem clingy or weird or autistic.
I complete get that, and it sucks bc I don’t know how to change it :/

I know this sounds cliché, but it has a lot to do with the people around you and how comfortable you are with them. From I was 3-18 I only had one person I saw as a real friend. He's still my best friend today, but during my boarding school year (in Denmark we have a special type of boarding schools which like 1/3rd of the population go to one for 1-3 years)
That year I learned that there are other people as weird as me and they accepted me for who I was, so when I went to high school I was so extremely lucky as to randomly ending up being paired with this one classmate who befriended me and introduced me to her amazing group of friends!
I'm still really bad around people in general but this one group of friends I'm extremely comfortable around and I feel so relaxed it barely drains me to be with them even though I'm very introverted
Anyway, what I mean to say with this little story is, I've been where you are and I have hope that one day you will find "your people" - hang in there😊

As an adult now, I hated being a teenager and now that I’m in my early 20s I know realise that the world isn’t as cruel as I thought it would be. I hope everything goes well for you

Being a child at any aged sucked for me. I gained a lot of responsibility as an adult, but I also gained a lot of freedom and I after I moved away, I was finally allowed to be myself. Being an adult is mostly awesome!

Yes! I had many teachers that meant a lot to me and helped me through harsh times and I think about them a lot. My highschool chemistry teacher, my 4th grade math teacher, my Sophomore year math teacher, a councilor (er?) In middle school. They all helped me accept myself a little more and more.
Good teachers stick with a kid well into adulthood, I'm 21 now and I still think of little comments and moments that make me smile.
You definitely do!! Oh what would we do without you guys. I hope to one day become a teacher myself :’)

Honestly, I really like how Eugene shares his personal experiences and what was going on in his high school. Sure I might be late and the only person thinking this but, Eugene is very open and I like him that way.

This may be a stupid question, but I am not from the US and I always wondered what "pep rally" really means. Sometimes it is translated as warming up (maybe for sports? Or is it pre drinking for a party?) and sometimes an election campaign - could anybody elaborate? 😅
@@Clarinalein don’t look at me I’m Irish but I’m pretty sure it’s like a pre sports thing idk🤣
Clarinalein usually it the marking of the end of a trimester but also before a sports game so they gather the students into the gym on bleachers or outside on bleachers and the sports teams preform lil skits or the teachers put on contests and you can win a shirt or something
