      if you play osu theyre not bad tbh. They give a little extra rebound and noticeably shortens the travel distance of the keystrokes. (this could be good or bad just depends on preference) if you have a 65%+ keyboard you could use the o-rings on the arrow keys and nothing else

      No worries I have o-rings and at first I hated them! I decided to get rid of them but it was late and went sleep, I completely forget about them for 6 months! And yesterday I was modding my keyboard and when pulling off the keycaps I remember I've forget to get rid the o-rings, I try with and without and now I actually like the feeling they give better 🤷😅.

    Not so much as they suck but they're commonly used for the wrong use-case.
    I use them on my lubed gateron clears and the reduced travel makes them feel even lighter, its nuts. I use that keeb primarily for typing out paragraphs upon paragraphs of stuff as well as some light coding here and there. Its my favorite keeb in my collection to date. Have yet to find a keeb that can offer me something like that.
    For other purposes, though, that fake Holy Panda (lubed and filmed) has replaced my Zelios keeb.

    @andie1874 3 ปีที่แล้ว +80

    They're mostly designed for the change of sound, and are heavily preference, I use them to remove the clack from my blues so I mostly hear the switch actuation. Besides it's not quite like going back to membrane, they're still mechanical switches with mechanical switch actuation, they just have some rubber inbetween the cap and the switch. They feel poopy at first but they're fine to use, I don't always bother with them but sound is an issue, they remove some of the most obnoxious part of the sound for the people around me, and leave enough of what I care to keep. Of course, if you can't play osu! at night, you're still not gonna be able to play osu! at night so, you have to decide if they're worth it for you.

    • @FLMKane

    • @HeartInLight
      @HeartInLight ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@FLMKane They also do that. But their main function is to reduce the sound when you bottom out your keys. Which...it does help a ton. I wont even use a mechanical keyboard without them because of how annoying it is to hear that plastic clack every time i push down. I want to be able to hear the tv and stuff around me when im typing. Not be overwhelmed with clacking from a keyboard im typing on. This video, is an opinion piece. Dont take it as gospel fact. Its just a subjective opinion he's pushing as fact.

  • @cinna7814
    @cinna7814 3 ปีที่แล้ว +34

    Just because a board uses rubber elements in it or part of the switch has rubber, resulting in a mushy bottom out doesn't mean it is a membrane board. The same goes for the Niz board you mentioned being "membrane" when it's really not, it just uses rubber domes as a method of generating tactility over a PCB

  • @RigidMole
    @RigidMole 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Why I use O-rings - I'm playing osu!taiko. I need linear switching characteristics, short travel distance, durability. I don't care about sound. I use two o-rings for one keycap which reduce travel distance. It also causes little rebound which helps the wrists make better movement. I didn't find any membrane keyboard that offers this. Maybe there exists some, but mechanical keyboards have better described characteristics.

    O rings can be good, depends on the material and the keycap, and how you type of course.
    Using for "faster actuation" is definitely wrong, o rings are used to prevent bottom out and using it with mechanical keys still better than membrane's wobble.
    O rings also get bad reputation because it feels inconsistent. This is because most key caps are OEM/Cherry or maybe SA profile, which is shaped differently
    Random opinion here don't mind me

    A lot of people use mechanical for precision, and don't mind the noise. But if you are on a lot of video calls, the noise can get annoying to others very quickly.

      @@juanpablohernandez3199that’s the thing about o rings. They work the same way as silent switches. Solent switches have rubber silicon on the stem while prongs have it on top of the stem. They function the same way and sound the same. Only difference is one takes place inside the switch housing while the other takes place on the keycap

    i have silver switches and I can't stop myself from bottoming them out in osu, this has caused repetitive shock on my knuckles and causes joint pain, it goes away after a few hours, but would o-rings add suspension to the keys, or is it not worth?

    I like the quiet, but you can't customize a rubber dome or membrane keyboard like a mech. Plus, if a switch goes bad on a mech, you just replace the switch, not the whole keyboard. Less wasteful.

      It’s literally rubber, you can feel a immediate difference if you have nice board that is set up right. Like Lubed, nice case, decent keycaps, ext... and you can feel it even more if you have a Clicky Box switch like Boxed Jades
