The game for this year can easily be like in 2015. The 2015 Pokemon game for November was just Super Mystery Dungeon. So the Pokemon game this year can EASILY be just a side game

I think there’s also the possibility that Pokémon has a game ready for the switch successor that was supposed to come out in 2024 and with the delay of the console they found themselves with nothing in 2024
Game Freak's 2 teams are already occupied. The A team is working on Gen 10. The B team is working on Legends Z-A. If we get anything this year, it will not be from Game Freak. It will be an outsourced remake or a spinoff. Gen 1-3 re-releases are also possible. Just not a Game Freak game.
In 2020, SwSh DLC was in development, and so were PLA and ScarVio. They can probably split one of their teams again to do stuff like that (not that they should, they should not do that again).
A 2024 game should not happen. They announce a game for 2025 and then SUDDENLY release a game in 2024 which might kill the hype for Z-A and split the sales, doesn't make sense.
I think a lot of fans are not smart enough to realise this. We don’t need a mainline or core game this year at all. If you want a Pokémon experience, go back and play a previous game or be patient. The impatient nature of the fandom is why we get games like BDSP and complain about it.
Another reason i think it could be a blank year is that za , and the inevitable gen 10, are both huge projects. They've figured out that Pokemon is a drug and every now and then they need to change the pattern, up the dose
What if the game for this year is a remaster of Pokemon Colosseum that could be shown off in May? The could also explain why Khu said it was a "Desert" as that game takes place in a desert like region 🤔
I think pokemon tends to release the games based off of the competitive scene. The 3 year cycle would end around August 2025 which would be the 3rd world tournament for SV. Usually after this is when a new game comes out. Also, scarlet and violet doesn't have the Kalos legends. Wouldn't it make sense if this game came out Q1 of 2025? People would need time to beat the game and usually the final regulation of each pokemon game tends to be 2 restricted pokemon and that way people can transfer the Kalos legends into scarlet and violet before world's in 2025. Thats the way I see it.
If there is a full game coming this year, I just don't it's gonna be by Gamefreak. I think they have enough time to release something under "Pokemon Works" Which I assume took over a project that has been in the "works" before the company's inception.
If we don’t get a game this year, then it be nice if we could get Pokémon in games like Street Fighter or Tekken, Tekken being the most preferable and most plausible since Pokken Tournament and Pokémon Snap were from Bandi Namco who owns and develops Tekken.
ZA's development has for sure been underway for a while now, mostly like since before the release of Legends Arceus. This is something Game Freak themselves have said before, they tend to begin development on their next game before their current one releases. Like how SV began development in mid 2019, a few months before SWSH released. So yeah, Khu is either lying or playing tricks.
If there was a game coming out this year, they would have announced it in the the Presents in February. Announcing a game in May that comes out this year would kill all excitement for ZA
I agree since nobody wants ANOTHER Lets Go title after Lets Go Pikachu/Eevee ruined the hype when they COMPLETELY removed any Johto and Sinnoh evolutions for ALL Gen 1 Pokemon, Plus the Gimmick that broke the camels back completely.
I think the best bet for pokemon would be switch releases of the virtual console games, especially since they're not much time left until the 3ds servers close, and it's a fairly cheap and low effort thing for them to release and still treat it like a gap year of new releases

Gen 2 had 3 years, Gen 3 had 3 years, Gen 4 and Gen 5 had 4 years, Gen 6 had a development of 3.5 years, Gen 7 had 3 years, Gen 8 had 3 years, and Gen 9 had 3 years of development. Is everyone forgetting that one game that GF announced that isn't Pokémon? They could be using a gap year for that. Remember, the last time there was a gap year was 2015, between gen 6 and 7, and they were simultaneously working on the gear project, which was also the reason that X&Y were largely incomplete.
What a waste that was. Gear project sounds great but it only works when the systems were way simpler to design for. With HD development, them splitting their already small team and then giving us Little Town Hero was a slap in the face for gen 6. More than budget and time, they need way more employees.
If they would just give us gba ports of the older games for their online services like they have that’d be an easy way to keep people happy and not actually release anything new

TLDR: A 2024 Pokemon Game (Non-Core) would not get in the way of the ‘possible sales’ for LZA near the end of 2025, yall can relax lol.**
The one thing I can think of that could be done is that they have some 3rd party team finish up and port what was made for Pokemon Z back in the day. Given how it would have been built on X and Y, it easily could have been like 80-85% done by the time it was cancelled.
Thing is Pokémon games aren’t where Pokémon gets their money, the games at the end of the day are just vessels to deliver new Pokémon to make merchandise of, they won’t take a financial hit if they take a year off, if anything it’ll just get them more people with blue balls waiting for the next game.
For me is ok to have a blank year. But if there's actually a game coming in 2024, i hope is something small like a spinoff game non-main series, like another mystery dungeon, snap, another app, the revival of Stadium/colliseum. Or another let´s go to still have something "main series" in the year

I'd want another Pokemon Ranger game, a series that deserves sequels, unlike Pokemon Rumble (fun, but it did not deserve as many games as it got, and glad mobile killed it by ruining the little gameplay it did have). Also cool with Pokepark and PMD, ofc. Just Pokemon Ranger needs a revival of some sort, due to lack of stylus gameplay (didn't even make it to the 3DS, for crying out loud).

I'd want another Pokemon Ranger game, a series that deserves sequels, unlike Pokemon Rumble (fun, but it did not deserve as many games as it got, and glad mobile killed it by ruining the little gameplay it did have).
Also cool with Pokepark and PMD, ofc. Just Pokemon Ranger needs a revival of some sort, due to lack of stylus gameplay (didn't even make it to the 3DS, for crying out loud).

Wasn't Arceus released in January? We don't have proof at all that this 2025 game is end of year at all. Not nearly as long a wait then.
a Mystery Dyngeon EoS DX (2024) release would be perfect.
My opinion is, maybe not make a brand new game until "Legends: ZA", but maybe gather up the Past games, that were made only for the other systems, and release them as a bundle for Switch, for those who weren't able to play them back in the day.
