I really like that Soi 10. Close to the park and Asoke. Very central location
nice little wink and nod at Lolitas ; ) Good to see that banner still waves! Have you been through that little crossing at the end of soi 10 that connects into Benjakitti Park? There used to be a little squatter community off to the left (east) that paralleled the Park's Northern fence line. You could actually follow it all the way to a hole in the fence that pops you out onto Ratchadaphisek, about 45 meters south of the foot bridge. Google street view no longer lets you zoom in on it and the only noted referenced is "BMA Dog Park". That was one of my favorite little secret spots as they had a little mom-and-pop convenience store with one of those concrete patio table sets out front. Lots of shade trees made it a great place to grab a cold drink and escape the BKK heat.
Yes, a few of my videos I walked into the park of Soi 10. I was just there a few weeks ago. I saw the dog park sign, but I think the camp is gone. Unless I missed it
Great video, I'm always popping down soi 8, Monsoon is lovely restaurant, know the staff well, it's a little expensive, but nice for a treat. Especially if you get a good table outside. Have you ever considered buying a condo? It's crossed my mind a couple of times, but think it's hard to get the money out of thailand if you ever plan to move back home etc
I'm not in a big hurry, but I'll keep an eye on the market. I doubt I'll move back to the US anytime soon. Hopefully the condo would sell to another Thai if priced right.
Joe, the average social security check is around $1800 in the year 2023. Can you retire on that in Bangkok?
It would be tight, but not as tight as living in the US. An affordable place like Udom Suk rent might be less than $400. Power, cell, water, internet maybe $100. Annual visa expenses maybe $100 a month. Thai health insurance maybe $150 a month. It can be less, it can be more. So that's the first $800. It comes down to eating local or western food every meal. Plus partying expense. It would be a no brainer in many parts of Thailand. Bangkok will be more expensive.

@@harris9436 I agree. If a person had a small nest egg for an occasional expense or trip, $1800 would be easy.
@@EagerExpat so pretty much, one would be a prisoner to his/ her apartment for that amount of money.
There are nicer and cheaper places to retire than Bangkok. But I would say yes if you are not a habitual womaniser.
My wife lives in a very basic place in Phra Khanong and pays about 4500b a month including bills. During lockdowns we were paying about 10,000b each including food and rent and cat food. Once the bars opened, that all went out the window..
We need to earn a LOT of TH-cam revenue to afford a condo there ha ha 😂
I spend more on beer than rent. That can be trouble.
