    As a "retired" master mechanic that specialized in German vehicles, good on you for tackling this yourself. My personal F15 X5 50i just lost compression on cylinder #5, on its second engine. I will be doing this myself as I no longer have access to a shop, and the last obstacle is a lift. I appreciate the honesty on the "NO!" part!

    Can you please tell how you disconnect the transmission? After loosing the bolt, how was the engine disconnect? Did you move engine to the front? And same how to align it when installing new engine. I am in PA and really need help with replacing my N63.

    I recently bought a 2012 BMW 550i that had an engine replaced at 71K miles thanks to a third party warranty company who didn't know the failure rate of the 550i engines. Is there anything I can to protect this engine and get a long life out of it. Car is in great shape.

      Congrats! Keep up on oil changes and an occasional oil level check... Thats all you can do really.

      Well.... Blue masking tape, zip loc bags, and sharpies... Label everything! .... So many harness connections andscrews everywhere... If you can, put new engine next to old engine and move one thing at a time.
      Also, if brand new engine, put oil in and disconnect fuel pump or fuel rail and have the engine turn multiple times tondisctibute oil without it actually tuning on.
      I took some pictures of things that seemed involved before taking apart.... Especially harness routings.
      That the stuff that jumps out at me... It has been over two years (running strong). Best of luck!

      Regular BMW dealer l.... quoted me 5k for engine and 1.5k as core charge. When I went back to actually buy, he charged me 4k +1.5k. Didn't really do anything special.... Maybe they have a bad conscious due to failing engines... Mine had 74k miles only.

    Hello friend! I have a BMW 550i xdrive 2012 and had same issue with the engine. So I bought a used engine low miles I swapped (not myself, a mecanic did but had no experience apparently) but I didn't have luck. Engine doesn't start. After swapping did you programmed the computer or did something similar?

    • @donttalkitdoit5931
      @donttalkitdoit5931  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am sorry to hear that. No I didn't have to reprogram.... It could be so many things the did wrong... You saw the engine, so many sensors and wires everywhere. I am not sure what a device to even give you. It is turing and fuel and spark are there?

    Have the same year - model - color and with roughly same mileage. Thankfully mine is running healthy but this video came up as I was trying to troubleshoot why mine is no longer warning me of low oil. I've become so used to expecting to add oil every 3 months and luckily caught it before it was too low. Still, trying to find out why it's no longer warning me yet the oil measurement feature works and I was able to see a code with ISTA.
    Also, your exhaust tone is different than mine (more lively). Sound more like 650i GC. Is that a stock setup?

      Salam Bassel...easy one first... I got the car with rear resonators removed (replaced with straight pipes)... and these pipes developed leaks at the welding joints.... then my son hollowed out the CATS... So yeah, it sounds really good (for now).. but hard to replicate :)
      I got the car with about 60k and I have a feeling now the previous owner wasn't very kind to the car... then I waited for the light to remind me of adding oil... which didn't help. So yeah, kaboom the engine went.
      I really don't know why you don't get the warning anymore...I would be making it a habit to routinely check it... every gas filling or every car wash or something like that... definitely a good idea for everyone with this engine.
