From the studio that created Pang/Buster Brothers comes Charlie Ninja, a side-scrolling platformer with excellent animation and visuals for the time, and a rather wacky sense of humour. Given just how polished the game is, I'm surprised there's no entry in TH-cam's gaming database.
In terms of mechanics, I suppose Shinobi and Rolling Thunder are possible influences. The fact you can activate a 'cloak' move that renders you invulnerable temporarily is analogous to hiding in doorways in RT, although here you can do it at will. There's also a variety of weapons to collect, each with their own effects, strengths and weaknesses, and this is certainly a game where you'll want to choose your tools wisely.

What an awesome looking platformer. Didn't even know this game existed. Reminds me a lot of Spinmaster on the Neo Geo.
Looks like a Garfield extended universe side story.
I got to take my hat off to the animation department; it just oozes personality and expressiveness. The Jason knockoffs that flew up and down by flapping their arms almost made me cackle.

Heh, I think that even back when this was first released this probably was already a nasty stereotype.
It seems almost to be from Police Academy or a similar movie.
The music sounds like they took themes from a dozen westerns and old ballads and mixed them to get new songs.
The face of The ninja seems similar to The Garfield cartoons

this game has a great sense of humor like the cheerleaders in stage 4 covering their face but they let out a manly grunt and you can see chest hair when you kill them
First level I thought it was similar to Sunset Riders, 2nd became Metal Slug, 3rd Bad Dudes. Presentation in Gunsmoke style... wow really many references!
I'm not sure, but I think this game was prior to Metal Slug.
Wow! I never knew that ninja game was a cultural mix-up of all the film genres. And it was also made in Japan! And that music kinda sounds like it was on a 90s computer! Cool!

What a strange clash of graphical styles. It's like they had one guy do the backgrounds and another guy do the sprites.
Pretty sure that Konami released a not-dissimilar game to this (the first level).
Sunset Riders and Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa come to mind for sure.

Quite similar to the Neo Geo game Spin Master, I wonder if some of the same people worked on both games.

The first stage has a cowboy boss. And all the enemies are cowboys and Indians.
The second stage has a boss soldier. And all the enemies are soldiers.
The third stage... promised to be the most awesome in the game, but make disappointed.

The quality of the audio in this game is quite poor compared to other arcade titles from the same era. Not sure if it's the hardware used, or just the quality of the samples.

Ignore the TH-cam game info - it's wrong. Charlie Ninja doesn't exist in its database, so it chose what it thought was the closest match (which is plain wrong) :)
