    From a strait technical point of view, the NES version looks rally really impressive for the hardware. And at some later levels I think the SNES shows some of the best graphics, its just not arcade faithful. However of the faithful ports the Dos one is by far the better if your computer could run the extended modes in 1991

    I used to see this in the magazines as an advert for the SNES version and remember loving the colourful graphics.
    All the versions have a lot of differences between them but one I always go back to the SNES even though these days we have the option to play the Arcade version directly.
    That said it's worth a play whatever console you have I think they did well to port the game according to the strengths of the platform they ported it to.

    Another case where all the ports have something about them that makes them decent. The Mega Drive, PC/DOS and Amiga versions are fairly close to the original arcade version (with the Mega Drive version's music getting nicely arranged by the prolific Matt Furniss of Krysalis Software), the SNES version has some extra playable sections and a map, the NES version boasts parallax scrolling, and the Game Boy version is one of the first games on the handheld to use DPCM samples to emulate voices (a feature hardly ever used in Game Boy games, having only been heard in a handful of other games like Taz-Mania 2 and Pokémon Yellow).

    Opinions:
    Arcade: It's impressive for the time, and it's sounds could beat the SNES any day (Unless you count Plok)
    DOS: It has good graphics, and the dino actually wakes up in this port. Unfortunately, it sounds like Joe's club hit the sound drivers.
    SNES: It's anything but arcade perfect, but on the plus side, arcade players playing this version will get something new out of Joe and Mac.
    Amiga: The sounds are impressive for 1990's home computer standards, but the most of the graphics make it look like an NES port.
    NES: The intro takes very long, but the graphics are rather impressive for NES standards, and it uses voice samples. But the level layouts are different, and the 1st boss is smaller than the 1st boss from other ports.
    GB: At least you can take NES Joe and Mac on the go, and it uses voice samples, and the boss is the same as other ports.
    Genesis: It's arcade-perfect, aside from the sounds, and the dino not waking up. It also uses voice samples.

    I'm biased since I had the SNES version growing up. But I figured I would check this out to see the other versions. After watching this, though I'm confident the SNES was the better option. It does lose out on the charge shot from what I can see. However it looks like it was the version that brought in the boomerang and fire shots. The world map option, music renditions as well as sound effects on everything were more varied, unique and better quality. I will say though that the Genesis version's colors seemed to pop a bit more at least on the intro screen.

    • @joshi_6887
      @joshi_6887 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@csikocska well... ummm.... i don't have a specific recommendation, but MAME is standardized. How is it standardized you might ask??? well roms for mame have specific names, that are very short : example for donkey kong, japanese set : dkongj.
      Sure, there are many different roms of the same game, because there are different versions for each region (called sets) and revisions for each region... it gets confusing, but when you open your mame, look for the game you want, find its name accordingly, and search that name along with some other keyword such as "rom", "download" or something else. Just make sure to go on safe sites or known good rom sites. I don't know if you already knew all of this or I'm learning you something, but i found it interesting to mention it here.

    A spent very good time on the Amiga version of this game. A very nice surprise compared to lot of other arcade conversions on Western computers. You can even play using a Megadrive controller with a second button to jump. Game offers 50fps scrolling, almost all the content of the original arcade despite some parts missing near the end of the game, sadly because of lack of time in development I suppose. Graphics are a bit rubbish and some more tests in terms of gameplay would have been grateful. But in the end, lot of good time despite these flaws.

    • @Leeki85
      @Leeki85 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      DOS port is outstanding for 1991. However it required high-end hardware from that time. In 1991 most developers targeted 286 with EGA cards and even single layered background with smooth scrolling was impressive. For this game you needed at least fast 386 PC which wasn't cheap in 1991 and game still was a bit sluggish. 486 was needed for full speed, but in that time getting real arcade cabinet should cost less.
      Amiga port is very good for an arcade game. It even has cloud parallax and a bit of COPPER gradient with sky. It could be better, but compared to mostly awful arcade ports Amiga got it's quite good.

    • @fradd182
      @fradd182 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Leeki85 Yeah, agree. Amiga port is not bad, just some inadequacies are clearly visible in comparison to DOS and arcade. With some more Copper involvement, Amiga can display 100 or more colours, so it could have been better.

    The arcade version, while not well-recieved at first, remains a classic.
    The Genesis port, along with the DOS version (with it's mediocre Adlib music), remains very close to the arcade game and so far it's one of the only ways to bring the arcade game home. That alongside the SNES version, which is longer and was considered to be the best version of the arcade game so far.

      The game perfectly works on any Amiga with at least 1Mb RAM, whether it's only ChipRAM or 512Kb ChipRAM + additional FastRAM. Yes, there is a sticker on the box that indicates that the game works on A500+ and A600... but not only. The objective was to reassure the owners of these machines. Indeed, many games did not work on it because they only had ChipRAM or because of a compatibility problem with Kickstart 2.0. At the time I had an A600 and this is that sticker that decided me to buy the game 😉 But I made a test on an A500 with just a 512Kb expansion board and it works well.
