38:28 damn, the idea of the world is amazing, or at least the way I interpreted Joyce’s tale. The idea that matter works the same in the pale as, we recently found out, the pale works on matter. That matter can condense in the pale the same way the pale pokes holes in reality. Things popping in and out of existence. The mental image is so- “disco.” Imagine, your at this undisclosed point in space to where you can see the entirety of the world. In all it’s Swiss cheese like glory. Now fast forward or rewind it at the pace of millennia, possibly even faster. It would look like the world is boiling. Like soup in a pot.
the fact that woolie and reggie enjoy dancing makes me feel so good. i got shamed a couple times for it and that sucks. but this makes me feel so much better.
First time ive seen that Shivers moment. Ive watched like 5 different LP of this game (after beating it on my own first ofc) and i keep learning more and more moments i didnt even know existed. This game is a modern classic. Thank you woolie for sticking to your guns on Shivers ;P
Its hard apparently to have the skill to know what is actually going to happen to revachol. During the shivers dialogue. I bet that would freak woolie.
The shivers check is one of those checks where it's not that bad if you don't pass it (it actually has more sense for what are you doing and how harry is )
there are things older than the ancient reptilian brain, more fundamental than the spinal cord. so old they do not speak the language of human thought. but though it does not remember the words, spinal cord remembers what it sounds like when they talk, and sends its shivers coursing through your body to remind you there are greater things than yourself, and one of them is seeking your attention. harry's life is a love letter to the city. and, being harry, he has always been wrapped up in his own pain so much he never noticed she returned his affection. it was nice of the speed freaks to put him in a position where, for the first time in his life, he heard her voice calling back to him. that or a man who has brutalized his body to the point he lost all memory had a hallucinatory episode during an ill-advised attempt to dance like it was thirty years and god knows how many heart attacks ago. one of the two.
I think it’s something akin to an opposing force. The pale tears apart the world on a conceptual level. Matter and even experiences are torn apart and sent adrift in it, never quite whole again. Shivers represents the soul of Revachol, a collective spirit of the city and her people and all of their experiences.
I’ve often thought about what I could change if went back to, say, the Roman Empire and discovered America before Europe had significantly outpaced its native civilizations in technology.
