Great episode man. I met Larry at a con and asked him if he ever wanted to do a day one Cobra story. He said he did not have an interest in telling it, thanks for filling in the blank.
Nice story. Personally in my own head, Cobra Commander despite being a used cars salesmen always tried to do things the right way. Until the right way just stopped working. It is a better fall from grace if he is bit more pure at the start.
Again I got to say you got a knack for writing and story telling. I always thought that Larry never wanted CC's face reveled, keeping him a dark evil mystery... Kids can be cruel, born with a cleft a young man grows up with constant ridicule (even his friend James asks him to cover his face when he eats). The cleft gives his voice a strange hiss that earns him the nik name 'Snake Boy' in grade school, 'Cobra Kid' by the bullies high school. His peers even shund him for his high IQ as he would constantly correct people, calling them idiots and morons furthering his isolation and frustration..... Just my take on the beginnings of Cobra Commander's origin and decent into madness. Yo Freaking Joe!
A latter story by Larry Hama i believe expanded on combra commander's brother life before he died, he was actually sober when he got back from Vietnam and actually set up a halfway house to help veterans like him get back on their feet but one day a vet got high and accidentally burned the place down which got cc brother taken to court by the bank where a jury found him innocent but the judge over ruled them and sided with the bank making him pay the full amount which caused him to start drinking
@@DestroIsMySpiritAnimal that would be awesome!!! Could do a whole series just on the individuals among the ranks. I look forward to what comes next. 👍
Been loving this series you've been doing. A great job of linking the various pieces of lore together with some solid narrative connective tissue. A fantastic look at one of my all time favorite villains. I'm hoping you're doing one on M.A.R.S. sometime, I'd love to see Destro and his company get this treatment.
I don't usually listen to non-cannon stories like this. But the quality of ur vids and ur knowledge of the subject convinced me to give it a whirl. I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. Excellent work, and I look forward to ur next installment of this line
One of the best moments of the IDW Era ARAH is Storm Shadow crawling into Cobra Commander's sleep chamber, and calling a one-hour, one-time only truce that will go beyond all allegiances and affiliations, to inform him that Billy has died. The Commander is devastated as Storm Shadow leaves, a state he would never allow Cobra to see him in.
Wow! Your videos are pretty good and thoroughly researched, but I think this is your best work yet! Even if it is built off of Larry Hama’s storyline, the tone of voice and mood you used, to create this video, had me hooked! More of this please!
Another great one! I loved it! We think it would be easy to get inside the mind of a dictator, but its more complex. Please continue with videos like this!
Man this is good! I've always considered that perhaps some of the Commander's earliest associates in the pyramid scheme may have gone on to be Cobra operatives in stories never shown. I'll throw some out... perhaps Scrap-Iron and (unbeknownst to the Commander) Firefly. They could see what the Commander was doing early on and how to exploit it for maximum effect. Scrap-Iron would have a particular set of skills, useful in the M.A.R.S weapon scenario you laid out. Firefly would open up the idea of working with international terrorists, paid through encrypted Swiss accounts... working to force the Commander's hand into scenarios that he is not ready to be a part of, ensuring the Commander is kept in deep and trapped in the persona he created, now with no choice but continue on this road.
I just want to clarify one common fallacy with firearms: most firearms are semi-automatic. It just means you don't need to manually reload the chamber between firing. What was presented on screen were fully automatic weapons meaning you don't need to reengage the trigger between firing rounds. The media has pushed the term semi-automatic to the general public as a scare tactic, but in reality almost everything is semi-automatic with very few exceptions like muzzle loaders and other single round firearms.
@@DestroIsMySpiritAnimal Looking forward to that. I've been running a GI Joe RPG game for my son and nephews and these videos fall right in line with the tone I've been setting. Very enjoyable.
Damn dude, you need to write the Cobra Commander movie! I have been dying to get a really good Joe movie. There are tons of people who want one, I wish somebody in Hollywood could string together a great series of Joe movies dammit!
I would love a take on GI Joe in which Cobra Commander is somewhat humanized. Still the power hungry megalomaniac and long past redemption, but there are embers of humanity still burning in him that just briefly boil to the surface, and get brief flashbacks from his past and why turned out the way he did. Also, love the fact that you Used footage from the Kurt Russel movie "Used Cars"!

Well in the UK and Ireland Cobra Commander was Baron Ironblood who sold out his Red Shadow organisation and created Cobra out of the ashes
Yes this is my cannon and am enjoying re-reading Battle Action Force from Total Toy Books.
Right. Being from Rhode Island, my canon tends to match up with the Larry Hama comic book, but I am looking forward to reading it
Came here to say this too. Best and for me only origin story.
I dig these videos.
Thanks!
Kudos on giving him the name from RoC. That was the only thing salvageable from that movie’s origin story.
Yes, hate that movie
Phenomenal story and if hasbro/paramount ever made anything this epic it would be a blockbuster!

I know you're not the biggest Cobra La fan , but it would be fun to hear a story about them modernized. Underground mutants from a bygone era
