Just got the exact bike in shop, for not running right needs all kind of choke after customer did carb rebuild , timing themselves and it also wants to stall out when coming to a stop , your video help alot. First i was thinking electrical because of the dogbone fuse so i replace with blade style , now I'm gonna take your advice and do compression test and go from there thanks.
Yeah, most definitely. If something comes in running bad, compression test is the first thing I do now. I didn't always know that, I learned the hard way, after endless hours of work and dollars buying parts, only to find out the engine is bad, will certainly teach us a lesson! I love. And hate this video. I am becoming very sure I need to replace the valve seals which means I know what the problem is but I don't want to mess up the timing and I just replace the time belt.
Smell the smoke to make sure you smell oil, if so first drop your oil level slightly below full. Many users say the smoking stops when you keep level just below full. Also try to store it on center stand whenever possible. If it sits on the kickstand for a couple weeks or more, it can take the smoke a long time to clear up. If it doesn't smell like oil, the float in the carb can stick and it looks like oil smoke but will smell more like gas. Try that first. Good luck. 🐲

If you can do it yourself about $200 in parts, that all the valve seals, cam seals, covers gaskets. If you have to pay a shop figure on $500-$700 labor depending on what shop and if there are guards or fairings to remove, ect.
