I noticed all the songs for this part somehow play into their sections acoustically. The opening static in "Interloper" is fitting for a song that plays just as Gordon loses radio contact with his friends.
I can’t see half life the same way after Black Mesa, and I hope that Joel goes down in history as a lesson for how to make music that simultaneously respects its own game, it’s inspirations, and how to surpass them.
It's heartbreaking that shortly after Gordon's arrival at Xen the whole complex of Black Mesa is blown to pieces by a thermonuclear bomb, killing every last surviving colleage of Gordon and many many Vortigaunts that were sent as cannon fodder by the Nihilanth. And also the many more that died during the 7 hour war and the Combine occupation. Black Mesa made this occur to me even more because of the very awesome overhaul of the game's prologue were every scientist and security guard has a unique model and you meet Kleiner and Eli on the way out for the last time in 20 years...
Limitless Potential definitely sounds like the kind music where you felt like you've won, but you just set a chain of events that has doomed everything around you.
Black Mesa has tons of memorable moments. But when 5:19 started playing, that was the moment I realized I was in for the best video game play-through of my entire life.
@@danybackstone Nah, I mean "best" literally. No game is perfect of course, but this one is the best overall. Gameplay, immersion, music, world-building, story-telling, beautiful graphics - I can't think of anything more well rounded.
@@henryb.7723 funnily enough, I think the same about cyberpunk at the moment. the game is exactly how the devs wanted it to be. you described it perfectly lol
First Black Mesa, now Fallout London... Looks like fan-made projects end up being way above a lot of AAA projects done by professional studios, if not the vast majority of them. I think we are closer and closer to gamedev revolution, if only fan-made projects could be consistently organised and monetised...
Play Entropy Zero 2 if you haven;t already. Its a fan-made HL2 mod, and it is INCREDIBLE. Seriously. Its extends the half-life story beyond episode 2, but from the combine's perspective. Every aspect is valve quality, and its ridiculously fun to play.
es increible que esta belleza visual fue creada con el motor source, recordemos que el motor source es del 2000 hermano es impresionante como se ve con un motor grafico tan viejo
@@Origami__3yeah for how much I love black Mesa Xen, I have no clue why they thought adding so many houndeyes would be a good idea. That is quite literally one of, if not the only complaint I have with that chapter😂
I replaced his ambient track with Ascension. It fits like a glove, although, you need to include some build-up parts, or else, it will end too quickly.
@@kentinnoro7776 HECU Collective has taken on Blue Shift, and the quality so far (up to chapter 4 - Freight yard) is right up there with Crowbar Collective. Definitely worth a gander.
Hmm...you know, I kinda don't understand if the whole world was in grave danger by evil aliens from Xen, why didn't Duke Nukem came along to kick ass & chew bubble-gum (while he is outta gum)? Can someone explain pls? 😊
if Valve is still gonna be working on a new Half Life game, i honestly would love to see Joel take a part in the music design
oh heck yes

In a similar vein, I hope that if Crowbar Collective decide to try their hand at Half-Life 2, they hire this man again.
And let us go back to Xen!
Transcendent -> Shadows of Death -> Critical Mass -> Ascension

When the music at 00:00 kicks in on Zen sends shivers down your spine. Great game and a stunning soundtrack.
The first time I came to this Xen, I was in absolute awe as I emerged from the cave.

Combined with the one after that (ascension), they make for the ultimate finale pieces for this journey, in my opinion.
